DU TOIT OUT, VAN DER MERWE IN 05 JUN

Pieter-Steph du Toit has been ruled out for three months with a sternum injury and replaced in the Springbok squad by Franco van der Merwe.

Van der Merwe, the Lions lock who is on loan with the Sharks, will join the squad in Durban as soon as possible.

Du Toit has been struggling with a sternum injury for some time. Following further investigation in the Springbok camp, and several specialist opinions, it was decided to withdraw him from the squad.

'Pieter-Steph is only 20 and the decision was taken, in consultation with his union and in the interest of his long term playing career, to withdraw him from the squad,' said Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts. 'This injury should be optimally managed and the specialists we consulted are of the opinion he requires surgery, which will put him out of action for approximately three months.'

Du Toit will therefore also miss the end of the Sharks' Super Rugby campaign.

More shocking news. But why call up Franco!  Its Bakkies we need!!!

Man will we have a team for the rugby Championship?

There are still these forth coming tests and Super rugby games to go.

Disaster ...

I see Meyer's still confused as to who the talent in the country actually is.

Franco is not Bok material.

Puzzling!!

I guess we will have to endure chumps like Kruger or vd Merwe now.

Really bad news - but one thing is certain Franco woill be around - but hopefully not on the bench.  However, we will never know - Meyer is known for weird selecions.

It's a shame. We made the same old mistake wth Steph....rushing him. The kid has a great heart and wants to compete.... those are the kids you have to pace. Serfontein is another.

Agreed Moz, this lad is a hard nut. He has been playing through the pain since March. Poor player management by Plum
