The following from timeslive:-
"Stormers and Springbok lock Pieter-Steph du Toit was on Monday named as the 2016 South African Player of the Year at a ceremony at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg.
Du Toit delivered consistent and eye-catching performances throughout Super Rugby and for the Springboks in a difficult season that has seen the national team lose five of nine Tests.

In Super Rugby Du Toit racked up impressive numbers, including 139 ball carries that made him the highest ranked tight forward in the competition in that category.

It was a part of his game that the Stormers relied on heavily for front-foot ball.

Du Toit was also second overall in terms of lineouts stolen in the competition with 14 steals and he ranked third overall for lineouts won on his own throw with 72.

He also made an impressive 132 tackles and scored a respectable three tries.

For the Boks his numbers were also good with 30 carries and two line breaks during the Rugby Championship.

He also won 22 lineouts on his own throw and stole one, which ranked second, showing just how difficult it was to poach opposition lineout ball in the Rugby Championship.

The 24-year-old Du Toit became the second Springbok lock in two seasons to be named as SA Rugby’s Player of the Year following Lood de Jager.

Eight of the night’s winners were aged 25 or younger.

The average age of all the players who won awards, is 22.7 years.

Du Toit fought off strong challenges for the top award from his middle row partner Eben Etzebeth, and a trio of Boks from the Lions – Ruan Combrinck, Jaco Kriel and Warren Whiteley.

The Golden Lions, however, won a total of five awards.

The winners from Johannesburg were hooker Malcolm Marx (Young Player of the Year), flyhalf Elton Jantjies (Super Rugby Player of the Tournament), Jacques Nel (Supersport Try of the Year) and Johan Ackermann (Coach of the Year).

The Lions were named Team of the Year after a superb showing in Super Rugby where they finished runners-up.

The prestigious Players’ Player of the Year Award, presented by MyPlayers and voted for by the players themselves, went to Sharks flank Jean-Luc du Preez, who was on Saturday included in the Springbok squad for their November tour to Britain and Italy.

The winners in the three categories for national teams were Seabelo Senatla (Springbok Sevens Player of the Year), Curwin Bosch (Junior Springbok Player of the Year) and Marithy Pienaar (Springbok Women Player of the Year).

“To see so many young players step up and make their mark certainly bodes well for the future and I would like to congratulate all the winners, as well as those who were nominated,” said Mark Alexander, acting president of SA Rugby.

“Many of the players who won awards this year will thrill us for many years to come and I’m certainly excited to see what the future holds for them and South African rugby in its entirety.

“It was a challenging year for South African rugby in many respects, but there were still a lot of wonderful achievements worth celebrating and all the players who won awards tonight fully deserve to walk away with the spoils.”

The award winners are (followed by nominees in alphabetical order):

SA Rugby Player of the Year: Pieter-Steph du Toit

Young Player of the Year: Malcolm Marx

Players’ Player of the Year, presented by MyPlayers: Jean-Luc du Preez (Sharks)

Team of the Year: Lions (Super Rugby)

Coach of the Year: Johan Ackermann (Lions, Golden Lions)

Junior Springbok Player of the Year: Curwin Bosch

SA Sevens Player of the Year: Seabelo Senatla

Super Rugby Player of Year: Elton Jantjies (Lions)

Currie Cup Premier Division Player of the Year: Ox Nche (Free State Cheetahs)

Currie Cup First Division Player of the Year: Masixole Banda (Border) - TMG Digital"

We do not need to wait for Mozart's comment of this thread - we should all know from his previous comments when Goosen was honoured by an award what is coming.

However, I believe Du Toit deserve the award - despite his denigration by our resident idiot supreme.

Sometimes this forum is a joke...there are those who just simply and straight forwardly JUST cannot see...

PSDT stands out...ironically there are mutts that cannot see this and the same mutts see points in a moonlighting lock that should have gracefully bowed out in 2008.

The same will vote Jannie, Morne, Fuzzy Wuzzy aka Wooly Booly and forbid it not even 39 year old Victor..the best moonlighter in SA rugby ever....must be the sentiment of old toppies who think they never age .

Nothing new from the resident idiot
Now suddenly it is comparable to Steenkamp.   Did you not defend Meyer's selection of Steenkamp and pointed out his player of the year in 2010 as part of the reason for selection?  I believe you did.
So what else is new?

Pieter Steff Du Toit can't even make his bench. He's just not good enough, so we're told.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaa!!!
Is this fool clueless or WHAT??
Soooooooo much to say ... about everything ... about everyone ...

To think that both Jaco Kriel and Warren Whiteley were candidates for the award ... and that both of these class acts are despised by the old fart.
I also see that of the 5 candidates nominated, 3 are Lions. So much for not wanting Lions in the Bok mix, huh?
Something that's also interesting is that the average age of all the award winners is 22.7 years old.
Poor Mozart. All his foolishness exposed in one sitting.
Haaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaaaaa!!!
Never mind, Moffie ... at least Dense thinks you're "class" ...

"Hilarious to watch Mozart squirm. I can see his red face glowing in the dark."

Aaaaaahahahahahahahahaha!

Yes, there's a bright crimson glow wherever Moffie goes at the moment and the egg he has all over his face is well cooked from the heat!

Imagine slagging off a player the whole season only to see him named SA Player of the Year!

LMAO . . . FY!

As if that isn't enough, check who was voted Players Player of the Year! Jean-Luc du Preez - the bloke who Moffie describes as a donkey who can't catch a ball - is voted Player of the Year by his fellow players . . . arguably the most prestigious award of them all.

Hmmmmmmmm . . . who to believe . . . the guys playing in Super Rugby and the Currie Cup who have actually come up against Jean-Luc du Preez in matches . . . or the geriatric and self-important old blowhard who's been slagging of the Player of the Year for the whole year; doesn't understand even the basic fundamentals of the game; who has never held a rugby ball in his life; doesn't watch any games live and doesn't even know how the numbering works in a rugby team?

Hmmmm . . . should we believe the players . . . or the laughably stupid and crimson-faced old fop? Hmmmm . . . like I said, it's a tough one!

LMAO!

Someone else can have the laughs for Elton Jantjies and Johan Ackermann . . . two other award-winners who Moffie has ridiculed for years.

I am speaking under correction here, but didn't Steenkamp have two very good years in 2009-2010? As I remember it, he was brilliant at the time! Just putting it out there. Was there some debate about other players being better? Probably, but there always is.

Steenkamp had a very good year in 2010 - but three years later - when Meyer called him up was really no good.     It is unfortunate that players staying on beyond their sell-by dates are remembered for their defects - not for their good/top class  performances in previous years.

That is how I remember it Mike, he was very good in 2010, I even remember thinking it was odd that he was finding such good form for the first time relatively late in his career.
Moz, I just want to be clear, did you think Steenkamp didn't deserve the accolade at the time? I can't remember who the other candidates were, but as I recall, he deserved to win.

I agree that the "Players Player of the Year" award is extra special. It says a lot more about the winner than any other as it voices the opinion of those he played against.
The players themselves would know without doubt who their toughest opponent on the field was ... and this year Jean-Luc takes top honours.
I'm so pleased to see another young rising star rewarded
That must surely pi$$ the oxygen thief off.
Jaco Kriel took the crown last season and Moffie made out as though it was nothing.
I'm a pleased to see both Jaco and Jean-Luc in the squad. I hope they have the opportunity to develop a solid partnership at test level.
If any noob wants to know who to back as a possible great they need look no further than who Moffie's slagging off.

surely they could have waited until the end of the Season to announce a player of the year? (Particularly as this is the worst Bok team in over 15 years. (Perhaps ever)

Steenkamp was good in 2010 and deserved the award, its just that Mike denigrates him at every turn. That said I always preferred the Beast over Steenkamp. How embarrassing for our rugby that our player of the year is Stephanie. Not that there really was a better candidate. During the Irish series Faf looked like he might emerge, but then he imploded in the RC. Nobody consistently outplayed their opponent. Stephanie had strong performances against Ireland and in Super Rugby, but was really quite ordinary against Oz and NZ. And then there was Retallik running right through him twice, leaving him prone on the deck.....not my image of a winner. It wasnt simply a missed tackle it was physical domination. But at the end of the day there was no backline candidate and the only viable alternative was Etzebeth who is less obvious because he does the grunt work.....and he wasn't at his best. Whiteley and Kriel were mostly S15 performers.

 Mozart
Let me get back to formal comments.   Some players were way past their sell-by date by 2012-13 and I have not criticized the said players previously - but to continue with those players have been the worst potential scenario.
Those players had another negative - they were not only physically not up to standard - they were also incapable to adjust their way of playing rugby and caused serious deficiencies iro team performances.
The end result was inevitable - the most experienced team in the history of SA rugby lost against JAPAN.   It was only after that game that Meyer realized that some adjustments were necessary - but it was too late to start development of a decent team during the RWC.
Players like Steenkamp and Matfield damaged their reputations by overstaying their welcome and Meyer is famous for selecting teams on reputation without regard to performances.

Admit that you were wrong about Du Toit and then when your done doing that ... congratulate him on an awesome season.
You might as well come clean about the impressive Jean-Luc Du Preez too. He too deserves a hearty congrats from you.
Tell us all just how sorry you are and that being ignorant is something you have no control over.

I accepted the comments from the ED at the time that there was an Argentine player as  member of the site.   However, the point is that whether he was Lavanini or not is not the issue - the issue was the contribution he made as a member to this site,
However, when it is clear that a member has knowledge of the game and writes thinking contributions to the site you take two options to justify your horribly distorted comments.  You either try and drive such a member off the site or you try and personally discredit him.
You are despicable and a worthy leader of the Village idiot group on this site.

Lies and distortion again.  I think that the anti-Cruz campaign was untoward and done with a view to get rid of him by Mozart and others.    The idea of getting rid of members through various methods of abuse and personal attacks were what I argued  against at the time and still do.   Why should I apologize to you as you were one of the main culprits - you should be ashamed of that,  I have nothing to be ashamed of.
