ExSport 24

The Bulls will play in pink on their home ground in Pretoria when they take on the Stormers in a crunch Super Rugby derby on June 2. In an attempt to help fight cancer,

Bulls have teamed up with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), which will see them wear pink for the first time at Loftus Versfeld. The pink jerseys were initially only earmarked for away games in the Super Rugby competition. According to the Bulls website, the team will be using their reach and influence to raise awareness and funds for their service to the public and all affected by cancer across the country.

Bulls fans are also encouraged to dress in pink to show their support for the “Get Your Pink On” campaign.(BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA SO THE bulle and fans come out of the closet at last - lets have a picture windpomp!!)

The Bulls' main sponsor, Vodacom, will donate R20 000 for every try scored by the home side, while CANSA will provide a mobile health unit for clinical breast exams and skin examinations within Loftus Versfeld on match day. Ticket holders can also get their heads sprayed in pink, blue, white and black at six ‘Sprayathon” stations inside the stadium.

Barend van Graan, the Blue Bulls Company's CEO, is confident that their appeal to supporters will be the catalyst in raising the bar of generosity in South Africa. “Our fans have taken well to our very berry fuchsia coloured kit. For this campaign we have embraced the colour pink as we join hands with CANSA and call on all our players, supporters, sponsors, suite owners and the general public to take part in the 'Get Your Pink On' campaign and be part of this fundraising and awareness drive.

"With the largest fan base in South Africa, the highest viewership figures in Vodacom Super Rugby this season as well as a significant growth on our social media platforms, I am confident that the 'Get Your Pink On campaign' will be a resounding success.”

Hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha - love to see ou windpomp in his pink jersey. Some old, long gone bulle are turning in their graves. Clever ploy though to try and legitimise it in this way.

This is actually a nice opportunity for WP and Bulls unions to work together and create this awareness for cancer day Beeno. I applaud the Bulls for the effort, I just wonder what the Stormers are going to do to contribute to this effort.

Beeno, has no idea of or sympathy for the Cancer Awarness campaign. He was on the same bandwagon when the Sharks had pink in their jerseys for the same reason a few years ago. He probably never had to watch someone die of cancer, before his eyes, over a twelve months period.

Yep, the Bulls dont need to prove their masculinity.....the pink at Loftus is for a good cause and I appaud them. I strongly recommend the Stormers do something similar.......could be embarassing to get klapped by Pinko's at Loftus.

Since the start of the Superrugby my BB friends told me the pink is for cancer.  Now they can say it is.  But those jerseys are still ugly!  And with the pink short and pink socks its almost unbearable to watch a game they play.  It screams at you!  At least when the Sharks did it it was not so overwhelming!

Like Tony Johnson said on SS Site

Quote of the week:

“Sorry Puma, but the Jacaranda flower is not the same colour as the Bulls' pink jerseys. And, no, it is not OK to subject viewers to these atrocities unless it's for a charity.” – New Zealand scribe Tony Robson is not a big fan of the Bulls’ new away jersey.

Go Stormers!

@RG. Valid argument from Tony Johnson; At least he will be glad to know that this time it is for charity :)

It should be a National Rugby Support Day to fight cancer on 3 June 2012 and all Franchises should support the process initiated by the Bulls.   I hate their pink jerseys - but am in strong support of there programme on this one.   Can it not be asked that all SA teams playing on 3 June 2012 should go all the way to support this worthy cause - any chance ot that happening?    Anyone that could ask SARugby to do that one?

windpomp my dad died of cancer and I saw him shrivel away so yes I have first hand knowledge of a person dying of cancer - actually it was the morphine that killed him.

The bulle are to applauded for their efforts but lets face it pink is their colour not only for these special events!!

Bwahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha something the men from the WP wouldn't ever adopt as an offical jersey. No gender confusion here. Hahahhahahahahahaha. Windpomp I know is very attached to his pink jersey and it is in fact his avatar.

So you say Beeno1 old friend, but you live slap bang in "cousin-humping-country".  an accepted status for Cape Town.  No, let's leave the gender thing ouyt of the conversation.  Normally people who are so discombobulated with an issue have a serious problem of some kind, maybe a homophobic one.

Let the players play in what ever they and their sponsors feel is appropriate.  Lots of free viral advertising has been a result of the pink jumpers.

I'm always amazed by how inefficient these charitable processs are, and I have been involved from time to time. Why do people need to be bribed by playing in a golf tournament, going to a dinner, attending a fashion parade or seeing a bunch of young men in pink to contribute?

Why is so much money directed "socially" to avenues that have little chance of success versus those that show real promise.....largely because the "other man's money" syndrome prevails.

A tremendous amount of money will be needed globally to really crack the code on cancer, if that's even possible. Just give the money, don't ask for a reward. But use a bit of intelligence about who gets the donation. It's not about feeling good, it's about being effective.

Ou Beenbal, try reading this slowly and forget about your childish drivel for a few moments. Note that I am not asking you for any comment, because that would serve no purpose, since I expect you to find some sort of childish remark to try and hide away the egg on your face.

The person who placed this in Union Sports Mag was referring to an article on News24. I also suggest you follow the link and scroll down have a look at his comments on some of the remarks on the article.

www.unionsportsmag.co.za/pink-bulls-sentiment-steals-show-getyourpinkon/

In an attempt to help fight cancer, the Bulls have teamed up with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), which will see them wear pink for the first time at Loftus Versfeldyes, I like. Tell me more

According to the Bulls website, the team will be using their reach and influence to raise awareness and funds for their service to the public and all affected by cancer across the countryIts true, they do have the reach and influence. Not only do they want to raise awareness, but they want to raise funds too. How can there possibly be anything wrong with that?!

Bulls fans are also encouraged to dress in pink to show their support for the “Get Your Pink On” campaignI bet that stadium will be pink, which would mean mission accomplished.

The Bulls’ main sponsor, Vodacom, will donate R20 000 for every try scored by the home side, while CANSA will provide a mobile health unit for clinical breast exams and skin examinations within Loftus Versfeld on match day. Ticket holders can also get their heads sprayed in pink, blue, white and black at six ‘Sprayathon” stations inside the stadiumR20’000 is good money. A few tries will surely help this worthy cause, but what I love most is the mobile health units to test for Breast Cancer. Women are supposed to do this once a year from the age of about 30, yet so many don’t. Bringing these units to the people is a quality move that makes me wanna high 5 the peeps at the Bulls & Vodacom that made this bold decision. It’s something very close to my heart. Breast Cancer is no joke, as is any form of cancer. I witnessed one of my very closest mates struggle through Chemo. Another close friends’ mom has just been through the ordeal of having both her breasts removed. Just think for a moment how your life would be impacted if this happened to your mom, sister, girlfriend, friend or wife. Or daughter for that matter?

How about this? Breast cancer facts… (courtesy of Pink Drive)

• Breast cancer is curable if detected and treated early
• 1 in 29 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime
• 4 000 South African women are diagnosed annually
• More black South African women are diagnosed annually
• Breast cancer is the most common cause of death in women aged between 40 and 50 years

For the boys out there who don’t know how serious it actually is – click here for some horrific Google Images on a search for “Breast Cancer

For the ladies out there who want to know more about Mammograms – click here

Says Barend van Graan, the Blue Bulls Company’s CEO: “Our fans have taken well to our very berry fuchsia coloured kit. For this campaign we have embraced the colour pink as we join hands with CANSA and call on all our players, supporters, sponsors, suite owners and the general public to take part in the ‘Get Your Pink On‘ campaign and be part of this fundraising and awareness drive.” – I hope to help with the awareness campaign.

If you want to donate – click here

The thing is, this is not about the Bulls. It’s about rugby using the platform it has to reach out to millions of people (globally), and in doing so potentially saves lives as they help raise awareness that women must go test themselves. If a game of rugby (as a whole) can help raise awareness for breast Cancer – why not? Its been tried in rugby before, but not on such a large scale. A game like this is the perfect opportunity to get the awareness out there once and for all!

Sue Janse van Rensburg, CANSA CEO, expressed her gratitude to the Vodacom Bulls for providing a platform in rugby to spread the message on the importance of early detection of cancer.

We want to thank the Vodacom Bulls for this incredible initiative in helping us to reach as many people as we can, while spreading the message that cancer can be treated more effectively when detected early, while further raising much needed funds to roll out our care and support programmes to those affected by cancer.” – Sounds perfect to me!

A deep character strain is emmerging here! You are using the very commendable cancer fund raising efforts (However read Moz's thoughtful comment) to legitimise your pink status! Bwahahahahahahaha

Best of luck with the fund raising bulle but please, for the sake of our collective reputation, could you please remember who you are supposed to be and revert to blue!  Asseblief bulle dit is nie goed nee!!

Exactly the one-track minded response I expected.

I am not surprised by "the good Doctor's" stance either.

Beans, you are right, the Stormers would never do this...because what would be the point of Vodacom paying R20,000 for every try they scored? LOL

Stormers  tries....in one sentence....bwahahahahaha!!!
