It was indeed an afternoon of major upsets and surprises - and I would like to make some commennts about some the players with due regard to the poor playing conditions.

Top of the list of performers was Serfontein.   He had a dismal game on Monday due to deficient half backs tonight he was outstanding.

Pat Howard camje on as a wing early - and I must say despite the heavy conditions - he showed great speed.    Maybe this guy should be a wing and not a number 13.

The real deal tonight was Pollard - that really was a massive improvement on Jantjies.   When the latter came on as a repalcement and Pollard was moved to number 8 - there was a clear indication of disruption of the backline.   I always thought that Morne cannot pass a ball properly to save his life - but Jantjies is as bad.

For SA to get a good log position we have to beat England by scoring four tries and beat them by more than 20 points.    There are some areas where there would have to be major improvement - the line outs is one such area of concern.   The other area relates to player selection.    The key pivot here would be to play a strong attacking backline and my choices in that case would include the following:-

Wing - Jordaan

Outside center - Howard

Inside center - Serfontein

Flyhalf - Pollard

Why on earth would you want to move a proven outside centre in Howard away from the action to wing - what a stupid call. For the record Serfontien did not have a poor game against Ireland, wake up man

I do tend to pay close attention to Dave's assessment of the youth squads. Whilst his perception of the senior sides is hit or miss, more often than not he does spot out the up-and-coming players quite accurately.

Saffex

Do you EVER understand what is written or are you plain dumb?   Howard came on as a wing and played in that position last night - capice?   I still - despite his good performance tonight - said that he should play at 13 with Jordaan as the wing.   Can you read?

Further question - would you want Monday's no 11 rather than Jordaan back agaimst the POMS?

Yeah I am plain dumb Mike - it was obviously not you that said he was really fast and maybe should stay on the wing and not 13.

There was also some dumbass telling us that Serfontein and Howard were poor on Monday, when in fact they were anything but - anyone able to actually assess the reality of what was going on in that match would not be stupid enough to conclude they were poor when the service they got was pathetic and they found themselves in traffic all night, where the only option was crash ball.

By all accounts some dimwit had discarded the two centres after one performance only to be left with those that saw Serfontein tonight being lauded the next big thing

Saffex

Listen - lets get it straight - I said that on Monday the back line was disrupted by Griesel and jantjies and that it meant that back line polay could not function at all - capice?   Since the back line was disfunctional neither Serfontein or Howard could perform properly and their showing was noit good at all.    Despite the poor playing conditions tonight - the scrummie and Pollard got the attacking backline to function.

I based my comments on the performances on Monday as against the performances last night - hence my recommended selections for the game against the POMS - read the last few sentences and list provided in my earlier posting - please.

Sorry about the "dumb" epithet - OK.

but if the service they got was poor then how can you conclude that their play was bad? The only thing they could do was crash the ball and they did that well. You cant step and round people in traffic.

Serfontein showed how good he is tonight, by all accounts Howard is even better considering Meyer invited him to the Bok training camp. If the Stormers had any savy they would have had this kid playing S15 rugby by now, much like Jordaan has. He is a far better prospect than wee de Jongh
