Edinburgh vs Newcastle
One my even introduce Afrikaans as the second language of the Club, because -
* DH van der Merwe;
* J van der Walt:
* Pierre Schoeman; and
* WP Nel,
were in their starting line-up.
I would classify their performances on the following basis:-
* Excellent = DH van der Merwe
* Good = J Van der Walt
Pierre Schoeman
* Above average = WP Nel
Edinburgh tiotally controlled the scrumming - both starting props was South African Svhoeman did more outside of scrumming - hence my higher grading of him.
Scarlets vs Ulster
Scarlets only has Bulbring playing for them - while Ludik and Marcell Coetzee played or Ulsters.
Marcell Coetzee played at 8 and he was brilliant in the game:-
Try scored - 1
Balls passed - 2
Balls carried - 12
Meter gain - 12
Defenders beaten - 1
Possession lost - 1
Tackles made - 21
Missed tackles - 1
Exeter vs Gloucester
No players of any consequence played in either side. Where is Franco Mostert? He played for 8 minutes last week and was very poor - but was not even on the bench this week.
Montpellier vs Toulon
The only notable player who started for Montpellier in this game was Frans Steyn - Serfontein was on the bench and Willemse did not play at all.
Maybe Plumtree was right after all - Steyn is NOT a center at all. In his last three games Steyn started as fullback for Montpellier and to his credit he was very good in all three matches, He did very well on attack and scored a try as well. However, he still suffers from poor kick mania. He made 4 possession turnover kicks .
JP Pietersen played on the wing for Toulon and look good in attacking play - but wa poor in defense.
Bath vs Leinster
The only SA player of consequence here was Louw. His performance was a mixed bag. He was good in defense and above average in attack. I would give him the benefit of the doubt and rate his performance as good - but substantially below what Coetzee achieved in the Ulster game.
