Poll for Saffas who live abroad .

Rooinek reckons* that migrants should ditch their former loyalties & embrace their respective new homelands' sports teams .  I left SA a lifetime ago but my sporting loyalties remain with SA . I can understand those that do change their allegiances but personally my sporting heart's green & gold .



*Okay, you might think it stinks that I'll support any other team against the Hapless Stompies, fair enough, now let me tell you what I think stinks . . . is when someone relocates to go live in another country but can't bring themselves to support that new country that has given them a second chance and instead hangs onto old allegiances from the country that he/she abandoned. I think that stinks.

I'm pretty sure if I ever had to pack up and leave South Africa then I'd support a British team if I relocated to Britain or I'd support a New Zealand side if I relocated to New Zealand . . . and I'm not just talking about provincial sides . . . chicken-runners should support the national side of the country that adopted them.

 I am not a saffa but if I ever relocated, nothing could ever make me stop supporting the AB's and the Crusaders. Yes I probably would start supporting a local team and the national team but not over my teams.   

It's a fair enough point if it came from anyone else but UrineRooi. The blithering Buffoon isn't an expat but we all know his merry support for Kiwi teams when playing a South African team,the Stormers. Then down below in the sports section he plumbs to an even lower level by congratulating the English cricket team for beating the Proteas. All of this from someone who is firmly entrenched in the mother country.
Once again his credibility stinks and his comments   hilarious.
And oh, he'd like to be an expat, why wouldn't he, it's no fun being stuck in the arse end of Diepsloot.

I am not an expat, but I'll add my two cents. Most people leave their home country because of a negative political or economic outlook. Leaving does not mean you hate your country, and especially its sporting teams, which have little or nothing to do with a country's political or economic situation. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that you are a turncoat if you stop supporting your team. By all means, pick a new team in your new country and support them all the way, except against your own team. If you cannot support your team when they are losing or when they are far away, then it is simple, you are NOT a supporter.  

Some good points. Allow me to clarify my situation on this matter.
Firstly I never supported South African sporting teams under the old regime.....I believe the reasons are pretty obvious. Secondly I support SAFFA teams but I support my home nation whenever they don't play a SAFFA team.

My two pennies worth. I will always support South Africa. That will never change. About supporting my country of residence...... Of course I support England and the B&IL and Team GB, etc as well. When they are up against SA, I back the SA team. As for my loyalty towards SA..... Well that is a different kettle of fish. Loyalty, IMO, is something that cuts both ways. I am 100% sure that very few of South Africans feel a flying feck about people of a certain pigmentation. Why else have they and are they still being "invited/told" to feck of back to Europe? What make anybody born in SA less eligible to own property in SA than someone whose forefathers are from Africa. Funny thing is that I often wonder what would happen if people in the European countries were start telling each and every person of African origin to feck off back to Africa. What pisses me off the most is the arrogance. I have come here and has put in great effort in integrating into the UK society. I have and still am learning the culture and ways of doing things, the vast history. I go to places and see things. This weekend we took my grandson to Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast to the Jurassic coast, for instance. Some other folks from Africa and the Middel East come here and then expect the Brits to adapt to them. What a fecking joke. Maybe I should stop this, otherwise I would on forever.

 I will always support the Boks and Sharks but I also support Wasps and whoever is playing the English ( just for the banter). Same goes for the Proteas, Dolphins and Warwickshire.

 This month I'll be supporting the B&I Lions cos thats the jersey the missus got me.

 Personally I've met many expat and only on very rare occasions did they support their new country over their homeland in sport. Come to think of if, I don't think I've met one person who has.

 It should of been a lot easier for me to support my home country seeing I had no loyalties but with re-admission I found it the natural thing to do with regards to supporting SAFFA teams.

I have tried to get behind the Pom rugby side (even got a Jersey off ebay).Have never been able to put it on, just the sight of it makes me come out in a rash.In fact I feel quite dirty for spending £3.99 on it.
 I am however quite happy and do get behind Team GB and the football side.

Support South Africa in every sport, even if I disagree greatly with the governments involvement in our sport teams

 @APD. Here is the thing. I feel obliged to support England whenever they are not playing SA. I have not come across one single Englishman who has had any issue with that. In fact, I have not come across anybody who has even expected me to support any English team at all. It is a personal choice. I live here and benefit from living here. Why should I not support them?
In addition, what would I say when, one day, I have the opportunity of watching England play, let's say, NZ at Twickenham with my grandkids who are all English born and I support NZ? What is more, their English grandparents also support South Africa nowadays, when they are not playing against England. My eldest grandson's grandparents even have SA rugby shirts. Something which I do not even have. I don't know about you but I have come across quite a number of cricket supporters who support SA as a "second" team. Many of them would support SA when we are playing Oz, India, Pakistan, etc. I know quite a number of British born Indians and they all have support England, India and South Africa, in that order.
Just like many people cannot get themselves to support  the Poms, I cannot get myself to support NZ. Maybe it  is the Haka thing. I don't know, but it pisses me off every time they line up for that thing and it has nothing to do with the ABs beating everybody. The same goes for all the other countries' version of the bloody sideshow.

Born and will die a South African irrespective of where I live.
Always support SA teams in all sporting activities but Ice Hockey.
Have and will continue to lay bets on their performance as I see fit.

 I will always support the Boks, WP and any other SA national sides. If I ever move abroad, I'll support those teams too...unless they play my "roots" teams. For neutral matches, I support the underdog.
Quatas and the ANC interference still hasn't swayed me from supporting Bafana Bafana.

It's controversial as he'll but I also have an issue with it(the Haka).
Yes I know it's about challenge, respect and and and. I get that it's tradition but something about the fact that other team is forced to stand there or face various consequences really annoys me. You can't come too close while they're doing it and you can't turn your back or walk away either. You gotta stand just there and behave yourself. 
I don't think it intimidates anyone really so I'm not saying that whatever happens during the Haka gives anyone a competitive edge. It's the PC way that it has to respected that gripes me. 
And sorry but since when, in any sport does a team/nation get to create a tradition that everyone else is forced to adhere to? 
Yes, I understand it will annoy the kiwis and they'll say that we should do our own Zulu dance if we fancy it. Fact is, we don't want to, neither does anybody else. That's what the national fking anthem is for.
For me, respectful traditions in sport should be able to be carried out by any team and shouldn't rely on nationality. For example, a player in cricket getting a guard of honour. Any team can do it even though I guess it originally started as an English tradition. These days it's a pure show of respect devoid of nationality. That's the type of tradition I can get behind. 
Most people love the Haka. I like it too. But it doesn't sit right with me. Contradictory, I know.

 I love the Haka...hate that there are special provision for it in rugby though...and then NZ went and ban the Scotts ' bagpipes from the 2011 RWC stadiums. Some traditions are more equal than others?  

Yeah, I completely get that Cera, I don't exactly know what it is about the poms Rugby and Cricket team that brings out such a hatred in me - all of the England fans and people I know whilst living here are lovely. But the actions of the media with regards to the national team makes me really despise them, and support anyone playing them. Unbelievably petty from me I know haha. 
Unfortunately I think the whole Proteas being the second side to a lot of fans is being in major tournaments we've always been the bridesmaids and never the brides, we're the nice guys who haven't quite managed to get over the line. I'd love us to get the sort of arrogance the Aussies have and just win something. 

 Well there you go....the board has spoken, Expats unanimously support the Boks. It's only the resident ass.hole who stinks by supporting foreign teams while domiciled in his home country. Look at my Jonny, he marches like no other, everyone else is out of step!

There is nothing worse than watching an English team win. When an opponent team wins, it is a quick 2-minute wrap-up. When England win, they parade the cup for about 2 hours on TV.
Overall the English are good people, but there can be a bit of a Nazi type of outlook that they are the epitome of modern civilised man. This become s unbearable when they win.
