1 Cheetahs out of Super 15

2 Lions out of Super 15

3 Cheetahs and Lions merge

4 Bulls and Lions merge.

5 Super 15 becomes Super 16 to accomodate Queens.

6 Promise to Queens overturned because of potential lawsuits. (Those running the Super 15 expect the best teams to play. Will they allow a half baked Queens side to join? Will the Lions or Cheetahs sue SARFU?)

I am going on a wing and  a prayer for 6!!

Personally I cant see any accomodation re our desire for a 6th side unless they go to a full 18 and play each other once. But OZ cannot possibly field 6 sides they can barely manage 5. Maybe nz and Sa have 6 and OZ stay at 5. This is the best solution?

Other than the above options someone is going to lose out. Cheethas or Lions. Maybe the merger again or one dops out.

Need the wisdom of Solomon to sort this one out.

Probably number 5, Queens will then become the next whipping boys and the next season someone will be relegated or either forced to join up with another team.

The two main teams you target, is the LIONS and the Cheetahs.

You don't mention the Stormers or Sharks at all.

Sharks shouldn't be mentioned, but why not the Stormers?

I think it would be best for everyone if the Stormers and Kings merged.

Here's my reason.

Lets look at the last few years.

Currie Cup last ten years:

Bulle played 7 finals, won 3 and drew 1

Lions played 3 finals, won 1

Sharks played 4 finals, won 2

Cheetahs played 5 finals, won 2 and drew 1

Wp played 1 final and lost it.

Worst of the teams: WP

Super rugby:

Bulls played 3 finals, won 3

Sharks played  3 finals, lost 3

Wp played 1 final, lost 1

Lions played 1 final, won 1

Cheetahs played 0 finals.

Worst team: Cheetahs, followed by Stormers.

 CC worst two is WP, followed by Lions.

Lions won 1, WP won 0

SR worst two is Cheetahs, followed by Stormers.

Cheetahs won 0, Stormers won 0

Can you see who the worse team is over the last few years?

Why try to snub more successfull teams, when the Stormers (least successfull of all teams concerned) and the Kings can just merge and solve everything.

Stormers are the closest to the Kings anyway, so logistically it would be best.

it seems pretty stupid putting in another SA team into the sp15, when ur lower tier teams have been very unsuccessful.
here are the reults of the bottom 5 teams in sp rugby for the last 10 years (lowest to highest),,,,,

2011 - rebels, lions, brumbies, force, cheetahs
2010 - lions, force, highlanders cheetahs chiefs
2009 - cheetahs, reds, lions, highlanders, storm
2008 - lions, cheetahs, reds, highlanders, bulls
2007 - reds, warraths, lions, cheetahs, stormers
2006 - force, lions, reds, stormers, cheetahs
2005 - sharks, lions, reds, stormers, highlanders,
2004 - lions, hurricanes, reds, highlanders, warratahs
2003 - lions, sharks, chiefs, stormers, reds
2002  - bulls, lions, sharks, hurricanes, chiefs

of the bottom 5 positions in super rugby, out of a possible 50 palces, SA clubs took out 26 over half. sp rugby may be ready for anther team, but not from SA, or NZ and OZ for that matter.
we need to look else where for a new team, somehwere like an all island team made up of players based in tonga, samoa and fiji.
this would help rugby grow globally without diluting the current clubs in SP rugby.

I actually think the Kings could be successful. Definitely not contenders but definitely a good side. The problem is the management of the union. Already, under guises, the union has been given exhorbitant amounts of money to develop the Kings. I recall several years ago how much of that money went missing and nobody knew what happened to it. This political experiment will fail because of what happens off the field. The whole reason why I backed Australia's entrant into the S15 was because of their superior management skills. You simply know that Australia will have their structures in place in a very professional business manner. South Africa will not. If the Kings do become part of a S16 then they will have mch pressure to justify their inclusion. There has been so much support and backing both politically and from SARU that any failure to make an impact will be very unacceptable. Once the side gets destroyed I predict their better black players will move away from the union anyway to seal lucrative deals. It will be a feeder side. Who knows, we may even have a few players poached; so it may very well backfire.

Jvr Lions are always at the bottom 10 out of 10. Cheetahs 6 out of ten and only because they joined up with Lions   - didn' t the Lions and Cheetahs play as the Cats for seasons 2002 to 2005? If so make it 10 out of ten for Cheetahs as well.

Stormers only five times and second in the log over the last two years.

The fact is Jvr if anyone is going to lose out it will be the Lions or Cheetahs. I am NOT happy about that at all. Stormers, bulle and sharkies are safe. They have been the most competitive sides over the life of the Super comp. No chance at all of them getting the boot.

There was a post on SS at some time where some percentages were given re wins loses or something like that. I seem to recall the sharks were the most consistent Super team followed by the Stormers. Do you recall those stats?

 Beeno, the fact is that both the Lions and the Cheetahs have accomplished more than WP.

Saying they were in the last few places everytime doesn't justify them being dropped before WP.

Interesting fact is that the Reds were in the bottom part of the log 7 out of the 10 times.

What did they accomplish last year? That's correct, they won the comp.

Any of the teams in the last positions can win it again this year.

This is just would have, could have, should have talk.

The team that came second, accomplished just as much as the team that came last.

None of them won anything, and that would have been why they were competing.

Look at amount of accomplishments to determine who were more successfull.

SA sides had to travel twice as much as the Antepodes. Another side from here, and maybe one or two from Argie should even the odds in that regard, maybe just a little bit.

I agree Draad, lets face it, as has been pointed out already, we have not exactly shone at Super level. HAv ewe the depth to filed 6 teams!! Hardly.

That said the idea of each side plaing the other in a 16 man comp, which is shorter, is fine. But if we get 6 OZ and NZ want 6 surely.

Draad did you go and watch the Stormers/ Lions game?  I see we are fielding a very young side against the Cheetahs. Alistair obvioulsy testing his depth. I see van der heever is at 15:
