Pollard played the Fool with Barrettt

Given that Pollard scored of first phase, as well in another movement it seemed that the Boks saw Barettt as a weakness.  Give the Boks another 5 metre scrum and Pollard will be confident of scoring, thank you very much......

Jannie took care of it to ensure there is not another 5 meter scrum - he was pathetic in the one case we were on attack.
There are two issues that I have hammered in the past and that is that both Cruden and Barrett looks wonderful in attack - but there are serious question marks about their defense.   The same actually applies to Dagg.
That is why I was a lone voice all along saying that Slade would be a better proposition than either of the two.    He has a good enough all round game -  but is definitely better in defense.  

 Barrett has made 25 of his 28 attempted tackles in the RC, including his brilliant tackle on Folau in space.  What are these "serious questions" OOm?

 Pollard actually didnt score running against Barret.
Boks have to get their pack right. The current pack is not good enough for NH rugby.

 Barrett only go 5-10 rating by Rugby 365 but I am not convinced that he played that badly on defence. 
As Beeno said Pollard didn't score against Barrett. The 9 and the loose forwards have to protect that channel as well so we will have to see more of the game to know what went wrong with the defence.
Barrett is our number 3 10 so let's not get too excited.

Barrett mad e some serious defense botch ups in Super 15 when he played for the Hurricanes,  But then you do not watch those games and therefore did not notice deficiencies in defense in that series.

Nothing wrong with Barrett's defence, with the Folau tackle a standout . Btw. didn't you call Retallick ordinary ? Best performing lock this year .

The bove is typical of Barrett's defense - hence my reservations about his defense.
As to retallick - he is very good in looser formas of the game.   In line outs and Tight 5 play he is not really good enough.   The Chiefs had the worst line out takes record  in Super 15 this year and Retallick had a major share about 

 Barrett didn't miss P ollard from the 5 metre scrum, it was Aaron Smith.

I will have to look at that one again- all I saw was that Barrett was on the grass - so I assume people would think the miss tackle also involved Barrett.  Statistically according to ESPN Barrett ddid miss one tackle and I think most people would assume it was on Pollard.  I know Pollard made two line breaks - breaking 6 tackles - but it could have been another tackle that Barrett missed - not necessarily when pollard scored a try.    

Barrett missed one tackle all game.....what is certainly true is Pollard had the better game. But a year ago it was Barrett breaking two tackles to score the match winning try.....lets keep things in perspective.

So Pollard is still a case  of "ifs" and "buts"?  is he still only to be selected after 2015 WC after the Steyns?   

 I am a big Barrett fan, but he was nowhere to be seen last night.
I have a suspicion that he does not like the physical stuff. I noted as much during the SXV this year.
Look, there is no doubting his talent with ball in hand.... he has that uncanny ability to make something out of nothing. But perhaps a bit like Quade Cooper, rough him up a bit and the rest will come tumbling after.

As for Pollard... go you Yster!
At only 20, he is rocking the AB stalwarts with his lovely hard knocks.

I gained the same impression of Barrett in Super 15 as you did.   He is not a physical player at all - he is clever - with good attributes - but he can get run over quite esily.   He is to my mind very similar to Cruden - both has a tendency to go to p ieces when the going gets rough. 

I watched the game for a 2nd time. Barrett does look to avoid the physical stuff. Their was a few times that he could have attempted tackles on Pollard and each time he let someone else make the tackle.
For the 5 metre scrum, Arron Smith did miss the tackle. However Barrett was not in position to make the tackle. It looked like Pollard ran between them both and Aaron Smith dived in desperation. Barrett looked pedestrian on that move and could potentially have made the tackle if he put more effort into closing the gap.
