In both cases these English teams had little interest in actually playing the game. The possession stats I imagine would have been very similar.....territory as well. For the whole of the extra time period the Poms were simply playing to get in the shoot out. How fitting that their two timid Ashleys....Cole and Young....would bottle out.

At least the semi with Germany now has the prospect of being an interesting game. After watching the totally boring English rugby team.....a double dose this weekend with the soccer team as well, was depressing.

Germany survived the pool of death and are favourites in my book to play Spain in the final ..

A Germany vs Spain final does look like the most likely scenario, although, Portugal may well give Spain a good run for their money, as they seem to be coming into form at the right time.

Spain have had the ability to isolate Ronaldo in the past......their coordination is the best I have seen in any team sport. But I agree bluebok, something tells me Portugal are going to give them a game.

It does not seem as if Englsih Football is really top class in reality.   Something always seems to have gone wrong - especially 9in the World Cup and European competitions.   It must have something to do with the domestic competition - where there are too many foreigners playing on club level.   Not enough players being developed locally - and even in international games they rely on imports from other countries.

It's all too defensive Mike.....no desire to take chances. And their current coach is just too old and imperceptive. It was obvious the two Ashleys were scared to death.....they would have been last on my penalty list.

If it offends you so much, I suggest you don't watch in future. Stick to the Cheerleaders and " Soccerball ", that strange derivative of the game we call " Football "

Oh and who is more boring and predictable than the Springboks ? Even your ex-players have been pointing that little fact out. Predicatability can be very hard to deal with...knowing what is coming and actually stopping that is another thing entirely.

And, just a last thought, that boring bunch of English players are now ranked 4th in the IRB World Rankings, one place below South Africa....one place above France and two places above the stunningly free running Wales. Which just makes them the best team in the NH currently, whilst you're third best in the SH. Let's hope you manage to win some matches in the 4 Nations, so you can rise a little higher up the chain. Can't be nice being in such close proximity to such " losers " as England, can it ?

 The English Football team is made up of "init chavs". When ever they lose a competition they allways have excuses. When David Beckham was playing his PR manager use to prepare a list of excuses for them being knocked out before the tournament. The English media and fans allways built them up to be the favourites at every tournament, and their coaches are 2nd rate even though the nation itself claims to be the leading authority on football. Speak to any pommie about football, and they seem themselves as experts, and that no one eles knows anything about football. The fans are also very unsporting and uncivil and no one else in the world really support England.

Playing for the shoot out was the wrong tactic, they only have a few people that can take penalties. Any decent country will beat England on penalties.

Every tim

@becs,

LMAO, it seems that a nerve was struck and good on ya defending ur countries honour. :)

i must say that the irony in saffas calling englands rugby boring had me LMAO big time, but each to their own. :D

no one likes to see their team fail and this is normal reaction for passionate fans to sort of lash out this way, but congrats on ur team, they played very well considering the circumstances and ur boys really fronted up by stoping the Bok forwards in their tracks and not allowing them to build momentum.
im a big fan of farrell, but england really needed flood for those dying minutes and at least u stopped the Boks from getting a whitewash, by no means an easy feat in SA.

the 4nats is far from set in stone, but i take a lot of comfort in the fact that the All Blacks are the only team enetring the rugbychampionship with a 100% win record and im confident that we will get the job done again this year, especially after what we obviously both saw from the Boks and the wallabies.
