The team last year was probably the worst ever in the history of Bok rugby. So are there any new or previously overlooked players looking like potential internationals? Here are a few prospects: SP Marais Bosch Rhule Robert du Preez Wilco Louw Jean-Luc du Preez Not a very convincing list. Firstly very few of our younger players are putting a hand up and secondly there certainly are issues with the players on the list. I guess another year of 'poor coaching' is in prospect.

Skosan always looks dangerous to me? Kolbe is also a talent, but having such a small outside back in test rugby could be suicide, Beeno had it right when he said he should be tried as a scrummie, a player with much talent would be a shame to not get utilised.

Possibly deddy but we are still taliking about a handful of players. In truth it's not that unusul, test players are like hen's teeth. The difference is we don't have a settled Bok team....Ireland has a settled team, England, Wales even Scotland have settled teams. We have so mismanaged our affairs that we don't have a settled team and unfortunately an unconvincing pipeline..

Hm, what about Viljoen at 13 for the stormers or Am from the Sharks.
Rhule has looked good over the last 8 months and his work rate as well as his defence has gone up exponentially
Then, we can not risk playing diminutive out side backs at international level. The All Blacks has wonder kid Mckenzie with the best stats in Super Rugby but they are very cautious in selecting him
Our outside backs got steam rolled last year agains the Baa Baa, even Jess Kriel got pummelled.

 Kingcorn
The defensive stats of all backline players were disastrous.   Habana's defense was at best non-existent.   The worse were in fact not the centers - the  main problems were with players like Morne Steyn and De Jongh.
The list above is totally devoid of reason other than hatred of some players.   One has to look at the players that is existing in the teams to realize the above.

Hahahaha come on Mike!! Nobody is talking about Steyn, De Jongh and Habana in any way what so ever! You're trying to bait Moz, but your "clandestine" attempt to do so, is so obvious it is actually ridiculous! You started your post with Kingcorn, and from then on your post had 0% to do with anything KC had said.
Why don't you just come out and address Moz??? FFS this is so bloody childish!!
Please can you two just busy the hatchet and behave like adults.

There is zero chance of Tokkie sticking by any cease fire that's negotiated. He broke his latest, heart felt undertaking in 5 hours. And I have zero intention of accepting his drivel. This could be a rugby string worth pursuing.....a frank discussion of new talent. He has turned it into a pissing match. In the meantime his strings are trolling attempts at trying to get a few of us to defend now irrelevant guys like Morne, who were never perfect but gave us some great moments. ... Pathetic.

You're right, we could have the greatest generation coming through but if they're going to be coached by Coetzee there simply won't be any good end results...we need a defined style of play and coach who isn't afraid to take risks, theres no way the poms have a better pool of talent than we do but they're just coached so well.

Fans are more hopeful because Venter and Smith are in the mix. But it's a bit of a dog's breakfast. Coetzee is a non assertive leader, who wont accept responsibility. Smith and Venter are coaching teams with woeful defence...Cheetahs and Italy. So Venter has the responsibility to fix the Bok's defence and exit strategy....which surely overlaps with Smith's role in coaching the backline. If there is any adversity the blame game will start in a hurry.

Look in an ideal world, I'd want the boks playing beautiful running rugby and winning every game. But realistically I don't care how we play, we need to play winning rugby, whether that be JakeWhite-ball or Ackers style. But we need something, because half the time the players don't have any idea what they're supposed to be doing out there.

Last year we were going from one strategy to the next game by game. To me the Sharks and Stormers are playing positive rugby that should be well within our reach. The Leins go one step further, probably a step too far given our paucity of wings and centres.

Back to topic. Cloete, the 6 at the Kings looks like someone to keep an eye on. I've liked what I've seen from the Du Plessis cousins and EW Viljoen. Shaun Venter has been quiet this season, but he just returned from injury. Cheslin is a bit small, but has alot of heart and he sparks something whenever he touches the ball. The bloke that played 8 for the Sharks while the one rottweiler twin was injured looked good, as did Liebenberg at the Bools. We need proper coaching to polish these rocks into gems....BTW, the Kings coach can't be that bad, he almost won a poker match in Durbs witb a deck stacked against him.

Draad if you look at Bosch, Pollard, the young Schalk, Jean de Villiers, Etzebeth, Juan Smith and a few others......they never needed polishing. Nor does Itoje or Baptiste Seran. These guys are reasy to compete. In the past we never expected national coaches to sort out our young players....we expected them to demonstrate they belonged. ... All this stuff we have been exposed to about JJ, Kriel, Jantjies, Stephanie and Coetzee for example....that they need to be somehow enhanced by the national coach, has been a big part of our problem. ... No doubt the coaches have responsibility for team performance.....but we shouldn't expect them to dramatically change the playing effectivenessof Bok candidates. They shouldn't be candidates until they are test ready.

SA is unable of playing winner rugby. They can not emulate NZ winner rugby and has no time or resource to develop a SA brand of winner power.

SA can only play loser rugby.

The second guy in the list is praised for reaching a final in a league rigged to avoid the outcome two NZ teams in the final game or worse, three or four NZ teams in the semi finals.

The first guy is given unlimited means in his club, struggles in a rugby league favourable to his vision of rugby.

That is what realistically means.

Better to get back on earth and stop comparing SA to EN in terms of rugby.

So many ways EN have a better pool of talent than SA.

EN situation is so better that they were able to start a make believe rugby project and get support for it. Those times are over for SA. SA is on the other side now, SA will take the part of the old glory that is used as a testing field for aspiring rugbys. A step on the path to rise. A rugby that is not expected to win but serves as casting favourable light on other rugbys.

EN pool of talent is better than SA pool. EN even manages to get more non boosted non white players in their squad while starting from a much narrower base, which ensures a larger support.

EN pool is better in so many ways.

One is EN can think the EN squad as a complete whole. There is an english demand for every position in the game. If by any means they fail to develop players for a position, they can complement by hiring players from outside   England.

SA inner demand is falling, there is no demand for a complete squad. SA demand is dictated by foreign countries, countries that want to hire a certain type of players only.

It means a lot of players of a certain kind and quite a lack of players of all the other kinds.

EN will have a pool to sustain two complete teams and half. SA will not have a pool good enough to support one squad. No back line, no halves etc because there is no foreign demand for these players.
