On second thoughts, perhaps the Y arpies beating the Scots would be the upset?

Nothing yet Denny, because I see Ireland topping their pool, and I would not consider it a upset if they beat Italy or France
Will see what the repercussions after that are at that stage, and who they play.

There will be lots of upsets, but not enough to affect the last 8 too much. The largest upset is already a given with the pool of death. We know that one of Eng, Wales or Oz won't make it, so that opens up a spot for another team, but that's it in my view.

Should group stage matches be considered as potential upsets?

Rugby tries to picture itself as a world sport. This is better served by not displaying too large a gap between teams that practice rugby and the others.

Not saying that the results like Japan vs SA are invited, they are welcomed though.

An upset would be if a team expected to qualify do not qualify.

Group stage matches bear little weight. They exist to picture rugby in a certain way.

The tournament could start right from the quarter final rounds without any problem.
