The Boks lost today because:

1. Defence - Bok's defence looked weaker than usual or the All-Black attack was just too good for it. Having so many backline players out of position may have been a factor.

2. Breakdown  - All Blacks got parity. Not starting Marx, also ceded a Bok trump card.

3 Box kicks - were fielded well by the All Blacks, and just amounted to giving over possession.
Hendrikse is more consistent than most with his box kicks, but a few were short.
When this tactic is not working, there needs to be a plan B.

Herschelle Jantjies was amateurish kicking the ball away at the end of the match chasing one try with a few minutes left in the game.

4. Basic errors crept into the Bok game today, and vital moments on attack.

5. Players out of position
The 6/2 bench meant that Delande went to 13, and AM to 14 so the whole backline was reorganised. The Bok defence was not good today, and it might have been the result of so many players out of position.

6. Backline attack of Boks
They actually played very well today once Willemse moved to 12,
and could have gotten more tries.
Having Willemse and Willie Leroux brings a better passing game to the Boks. However, the plan did not back the attack game enough, with box kicks being overused.

Some players were good, but others are out of form.

15. Willemse - 8/10 better at centre. He needs to remain at 12.

Willemse moved to 12, where many of us want to see him play- and he had a good game. He is a better option than Delande, far more unpredictable with better playmaking ability to involve his outside backs. Like Willie Leroux, he gives the Bok attack another gear with his long passes.
I would rather start with Willemse at 12, so he can combine with AM.

14. Jessica Kriel - 1/10 Useless. Missed the tackle that led to 1st The All Black winger try. Then was Ko-od on the 2nd tackle, on the very same player. He got run over and didn't get the bus number plate.

When Jessie Kriel partially redeemed himself by getting knocked out, it was a chance to get a better player on the pitch. He is not a test standard winger. It is debatable if he is still a test standard player.

13. AM   9/10  Exceptional. He got more involved in the game with Willemse at 12.
A backup centre needs to be found before the world cup, and it is not Jessica.

12. Delande. 5/10
Poor defence. On attack, he actually looked better in the outside centre position where he had a bit more space. Although rather have AM and Willemse as the centre combination which gives the Backline more attacking options.

11. Mapimpi   - 8/10

Was unlucky to not score more. He is fast, and when he has backline players that can pass into space he is lethal.

10. Pollard     5/10
He is looking stale at 10. Does not get his backline running, relies on a 2nd receiver to do this.
His form is concerning. Not bad, but nowhere his best.

9.  Hendrikse 6.5/10
Solid game. Some of his kicks could have been a bit better, but solid overall.

8. Vermuelen   3/10
Way of the pace. Either he is over the hill, or he just needs to regain form after game time.

7. Steph DuToit  -  4/10
Not back in form yet,

6. Kolisi  - 4/10
Did he play?

5. Lomp  6.5/10
Solid

4. Eztebeth  7/10
Usual good game.

3. Malherbe  7/10

solid

2.   Dweeb            2/10

Poor lineout throwing. Not very involved, and lasted 30 minutes before Marx replaced him. Looked a bit fat running around.

Marx  7/10
Was good, but should have started. His involvement at the ruck is needed.

1. OX    6/10

Average at best, his replacement bested him. Ruined a very promising attacking movement allowing Whitelock to rip the ball out of his arms on the drive.

Williemse ... 8 out of 10? Dream on. He was perhaps at best a 6.

Am - did not play a near on perfect game. Not even close. At best a 7.

Mapimpi - an 8? Have you lost your mind? A 5 at best.

Kolisi was too easily stripped of the ball. He's a weed. He contributed nothing to the match. At best a 1 out of 10.

Malherbe collapsed under pressure. A beautiful belly flop for all to see ... giving  a scrum penalty away ...  again. At best a 3 out of 10.

Dweeb ... not test material ... Clearly a quota ... contributed nothing in the tight loose ... At best a 2.

Ox ... just another quota receiving undeserved credit. He was shown up by a vastly better Kitshoff. A 2 out of 1 0 at best is all he's worth.

Put the weed down and sober up Sharkshit. Your analysis needs a lot of work.

In fact ... Let me give you a little advice. Rather leave the scoring of the Goats to someone else. You are completely clueless.

Maybe Sharkbok didn't see the lots of free space given the Boks. A Foster tactical mistake. It all needs some  context. Nice to see what we can do against the Boks.

Ardie Savea was a difference today. He was involved in key moments of the game, and his influence was more than enough for the Boks to lose.

He competed well at the breakdown and closed down a few Bok attacks.

Our loosies are currently a problem:
1 Wiese who makes contributions is also a penalty machine.
2 Dud Toit  who plays a sort of third  lock role .. doesn’t cover the basics….breakdown, defence in space…effective running.
3 Kolisi waxes warm and cold, sometimes he has little interest in the game, today was one of those times.

And Vermuelen might be past it, or he needs more game time. He was not up to pace before he was replaced by the strong but simple Jasper Wiese.

Kwagga could have replaced Steph Dutoit earlier in the game, when it was clear the All Blacks were doing well at the breakdowns.

A backrow with DuToit and Wiese is not going to be very competitive at the breakdown, especially with Kolisi who rarely impacts the ruck. 3 ball carriers.

Why not replace Kolisi with Kwagga?

Why does it have to be Du Tout?

He was by far the better flank of the two.

You needed a loosie to compete with Savea.

Kolisi is not the answer at 6 ... in fact he shouldn't be in the squad at all.

Did anybody notice how effective the Bok’s were when DDA had no involvement in the back line? Willemse, in a rare opportunity at 12…threw a pass to the winger that DDA hasn’t managed in his entire career. Let’s hope we see Willemse at 12 for the rest of the series and the foreseeable future. The positive here, and perhaps it’s good timing, is that the Boks probably learned more from this one game than they have from all the previous games this year. Also, they got another lesson in terms of what happens when your maul is stopped. Of course we should rely on it when i works there has to be a plan B. I was amazed that, after the ABs defended the maul as well as they did last week, the Bok’s had no variation. It smacked of complacency. I feel for Dwebs. He wasn’t himself yesterday. Had an absolute shocker.

Why does Marx have to carry the quota burden? He is our best player, and he needs to start. The Boks would not need to chase games starting the best players.

Hooker, one prop, one flank, scrum half, one centre and both wings appear to be quota reserved positions. I don’t agree much on Mapimpi either…went passive on the high ball and turned inside with lots of space. He can run in an unopposed try. Not super fast, not elusive, not powerful…I wish we had van der Merwe.

King, maybe watch the game again as I think a 4 for Steph is spot on.
