Pote Human (Gallo Images)

Cape Town - Bulls coach Pote Human has warned his charges not to let their standards drop on defence when they host the Blues in Pretoria on Saturday.

The Bulls' try-scoring drought has been a big talking point in the build-up to this weekend’s game, but Human reminded his players not to forget their responsibilities on defence against an attacking-minded team like the Blues.

"We've worked hard on our attacking play the last two weeks. We simply must use our chances. It bothers everyone and I hope it shows Saturday. However, we'll also have to defend really well and we need to excel in both departments," Human said on Thursday, as quoted by Netwerk24.

The Bulls had a bye last weekend but failed to register a single try in their opening two games - a 23-15 defeat to the Sharks in Durban and a 13-0 whitewash against the Stormers in Cape Town.

Human named a largely unchanged team with Wian Vosloo the only new face in the starting line-up. He takes over the No 7 jumper from Abongile Nonkontwana.

The bench sees two changes with Corniel Els and Ruan Steenkamp making their first appearances this season. Els replaces the injured Johan Grobbelaar while Steenkamp takes Vosloo's place on the bench.

Human added that they were feeling the heat after two defeats, but stressed there was no need for panic.

"The competition is definitely not a sprint and if we can win the next three games at Loftus (Blues, Jaguares and Highlanders), then we'll go on tour with good momentum," the coach added.

Saturday's clash at Loftus Versfeld kicks off at 17:15.

Teams:

Bulls

15 Warrick Gelant, 14 Cornal Hendricks, 13 Johnny Kotze, 12 Burger Odendaal (captain), 11 Rosko Specman, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Ivan van Zyl, 8 Josh Strauss, 7 Wian Vosloo, 6.Jeandre Rudolph, 5 Juandre Kruger, 4 Andries Ferreira, 3 Trevor Nyakane, 2 Jaco Visagie, 1 Lizo Gqoboka

Substitutes: 16 Corniel Els, 17 Gerhard Steenekamp, 18 Wiehahn Herbst, 19 Ruan Nortje, 20 Ruan Steenkamp, 21 Embrose Papier, 22 Manie Libbok, 23 Divan Rossouw

The Bulls cap reminds me of a Mcdonald's staff member. Noel Marias was perfect for the part, and so is Pote.
Would you like chips and a cold drink with that?

Haha...Bulls lead the Blues at half time with "useless" Morne going over for try at the last second,

One must be careful to what one says, sometimes it comes back to bite one in the butt.

Lets see if this is the case when the fat lady starts to sing

Stain walked over the line to get the Bulls try.
His inside player did the job of a flyhalf by straightening the backline before drawing the defence and creating the overlap.
Stain was in the centre position, a try my grandmother would have scored.

Marius van der Westhuizen's blatant efforts to give the Bulls this game were nothing short of embarrassing.
If this pathetically biased performance doesn't demonstrate the need for neutral refs then I don't know.
Well done Blues!

Poor Bulls, must be hard when it is probably the worst team ever.

And no I have never been a Morne fan but give a little credit when it's due...they could have won the game if they did not give away a penalty in the last minute or for that matter if Steyn had converted the first try and I don't think the Blues are all that bad. The rainy weather conditions were awful same as the Stormers game.

However even a wounded and ageing Bull is still a Bull and sheer pride might cause a surprise result somewhere later in the competition.

I stopped watching the garbage and after a while I went back and saw the Blues scoring  great try,  What caused the try to be scored?  A BS kick by that idiot supreme  flyhalf Morne Steyn,   Only he will kick  balls aimlessly down the middle of the field and allow the Blues to counter-attack.

I thought reffing was beyond critique in you book? Different story if you've got a horse in the race, hey? Don't worry, I agree, eventhough I had "money" on the other horse. Marius struggles to ignore his bias...or maybe he is over compensating in his efforts to overcome his bias?

Well there seems to be a contradiction here...I too thought that there "appeared" incidences that he seemed a wee bit biased in Bulls favour but in the end he awarded the Blues a kickable penalty at the 11th hour that bailed them out of gaol and led them to a one point victory.

Strange!

Man, what is up with the Bulls.

Each and every year I look at the team sheet at the start of the season. On paper, it always looks like a strong side that could easily win our conference.

Yet, year on year they disappoint.

I know some people that have been semi involved with the Bulls and also some that have had run-ins with Bulls players in Pretoria. I've always taken it with a pinch of salt when people said that the club was arrogant and that there was a culture of unfounded swagger there..

Honestly, I'm starting to think that it must be the case because one cannot perform so consistently poorly just by chance.

If that is the case, then i do hope they continue to struggle, until such time as rugby hands them enough ass whippings for them to do some soul searching.

Plum

I think the soul searching has already started.   74,5% of the Bulls franchise belongs to Rupert and Motsepe and the former has appointed Brits to look after their rugby interests.   He and Motsepe will demand answers to the reasons for the under-performances and one can accept that the two will not be happy at the present situation.

Well Plum one certainty is that if you look at the team sheet this year there is no way you could conclude they will win anything. The side/squad has been depleted and the alternatives are piss poor. Not one of their new signings are good and we are yet to see any new good youngsters on show. Their coach is also old school and out of touch The Bulls are dead and buried

Saffex, they do have some decent players. But I get what you're saying.

We can probably count on them for a few derby upset wins to set back the likes of the Stormers and Shark.

There are very few good players - Nqoboka, Nyakane, Papier, v Zyl, Odendaal, Speckman and Galant - that’s where it ends That’s 40% of your side with 60% being shit The Lions are in a similar position

Geland needs to move to a playmaker position. His passing skills are exceptional, but he is probably not fast enough for an outside back - at least by international standards.
He even set up Morne Stain for Bulls only try this year. He went in as the second receiver - and Morne walked over the line after Gelant did all of the work.

With all the new talent coming through for outside backs in SA, Gelant cant match their pace. He is not slow by any means, but he would be better utilised closer to the action.
John Mitchell wanted to move him to the outside centre because of his skill set as a playmaker.

We only have Fassi coming through at fullback so we need Gelant to stay just where he is at 15 He is not big enough for centre
