Ex Keo

Jake White wil trade his whistle for the professor’s podium as part of a plan to make the University of Canberra the world’s best sporting institution.

The Canberra Times reported White will be named as an adjunct professor where the Brumbies coach will give lectures, help with course development and add technical expertise.

The Brumbies will move their base to the university in 2014.

White will join Canberra Capitals leader Carrie Graf and Wallabies and Brumbies great Joe Roff at the university.

Graf is the UC’s coach-in-residence, while Roff is the chief executive of the university union.

‘I was a physical education teacher [before I became a coach] and I never dreamed of becoming an adjunct professor,’ he said. ‘It will be fantastic, it’s an opportunity for me to share some of my experiences. UC talks about being the best in sports and having that hub … if it means I can stimulate some coaches or guys in the sports world then it’s fantastic.

‘When you’re a coach you’re a teacher anyway, teaching rugby to 35 players. It’s part of your make-up.’

White, who won the 2007 World Cup with the Boks, rejuvenated the Brumbies in 2012. The team finished one place off a play-off. In this season’s tournament they hammered the Reds 24-6 and travel to Melbourne to play the Rebels on Friday.

More egg for a certain egg magnet! Well done Jake you are doing us proud.

Unlimited budget doesn't hurt when ur in the nations capital with govt funding as your major sponsor... Brumbies looking real good this year. Fwd pack is very solid and with pocock there too and seeming endless supply of assistant coaches at the brumbies prof white looking good for Wobblies gig after dingo gone...

Snapster you trying to mumble something under that huge heap of EGG.

Good to see a decent and competent guy getting rewarded. One can only hope we dont come short because of Prof White and the Brumbies

Redsman the approach seems very professional to me.

Beeno, Beeno, Beeno, it's only the start of season mate to start gushing over Jake White/Brumbies/Stormers - don't set yourself up (again and again) for another fall!

Hahhahahahakwa good to see you make an appearance mate. Prof White is being duly honoured for proven coaching ability by the Oz guys. Good on them and extremely embarrassing for lardy snapster who keeps getting it wrong.

But help me hahahakwa - I cant remember any falls? You should know how sure footed Beeno1 is.

All I can say is lets hope Jake gets the Oz job, that way we will know we no longer have anything to worry about when we face the Aussies.

True to form good old Beenkop bangs on about no falls - wow what would call a 42% win record for the Boks in 2006 under Jake then?

the programme that the brumbies have with the university is actually a very good initiative, so pat on the back for professor plum.

but coming within one place of spXV final in 2012 is a failure. brumbies despite playing in the easiest conference which entitled them to two matches against 14th place force, 13th place rebels and 11th place waratahs, while also strking gold in not playing the 1st place stormers or the 4th place (3rd really) crusaders. and even with all that SANZAR sanctioned match fixing, white still couldnt coach the brumbies to a finals??? o_O
thats pretty useless no matter how u look at it.

brumbies have been solid in their first two outings, but lets get real, they played a reds team missing their best players and then they beat the rebels, big whoop.

The Ozzies have certainly welcomed him into their community.

Must make him feel really special.

It’s awesome to see. They know a class act when they see it and seem rather eager to tap his expertise.

Unlike the morons running this country, so busy with their racial prejudice they can’t see the wood for the trees

Good for him.

Wish him all the best.

White's acheivements by themselves were substantial....but if you consider the total lack of support from his union, and the constant attempts to sabotage him by many of his peers.....they were that much greater.  To have had PdV as Bok coach when this man clearly wanted to continue, was an act of monumental stupidity.

Nicely put, Mozart!!

I can only imagine the levels of frustration Jake White must have experienced during his time at the helm.

Now he has people from another land falling over themselves to get his input.

I for one am glad he is no longer involved with Bok rugby. In the year leading up to his WC victory his record sat at 42%..........the man was on the slippery slope downwards. An overall record of 67% was just not good enough.

The way Meyer has started hardly inspires one with confidence of an improvement. This year will be defining for Meyer - another poor year and he must go

its not like PDV had the support of the unions either, and for that matter he never had the support of the SA media who were more critical then the rest of the world.

PDV does have some records that white dosent have.

only Bok coach to win a series against the lions and get a whitewash over the All Blacks.

coached the Boks to victory over the All Blacks in NZ twice, something that whit never done.

only Bok coach to beat the All Blacks in dunedin.

never coached the Boks with a losing percentage less then 55%.

my biggest problem with jake white is that he didnt even bother to re apply for the job of springboks coach after 2007.
the attitude he had was he shouldnt have to, but if he was really serious about that Boks job he would have swallowed his pride and just reapplied. of course he didnt, so can anyone really say he wouldnt have gottne the job, especially with a RWC under his belt???

IMO both white and PDV faced challenges during their tenure and while each challenge differed from the other, they were both hard fought tenures.
i will say that PDV could have won a RWC if he had the same rugby lottery that jake white had in 2007.
