Proteas in a must win situation

We looked to be in pretty good shape after WI posted a decent score...but now we have to sequentially go through WI and Oz to win this thing. And that's as it should be. It's time for AB to really assert himself.

I do not think a must win situation is that essential.   Looking at the log the situation is as follows:-

Australia         -   15    -  PD  0.383

South Africa   -   12    -  PD 0.697

West Indies   -      8    -   PD -0.988

If the Windies win without getting a bonus point  - the PD will have to be big to avoid SA going through to the final.

I remember about 8 or so years ago when AB told an interviewer that he wanted to be the best batsman in the world. There were sneers and sarcasm from some Ozzies. His reply was..."Well should I make it my goal to be second best?" He then went on to become one of the best the world has ever seen, let alone just his generation.

Agreed Plum, still marvel at what AB can do with a willow....... unbelievable

 @ComradeMike. Be so kind and run us through the "Points Difference" story of yours. Explain to us how the "points" are calculated. I am particularly interested to see how you arrived at the point where the Nett Run Rate, became "Points Difference" and I am also particularly interested to see if you understand the term Net Run Rate and how it fluctuate during a series, such as this.

You are correct, but in particular, it will go to the team which has the most wins, but against those two opposing teams only, during that specific series

 Methinks this will be a tight one between two evenly balanced teams. The wicket will play a major role and by the sounds of things the Proteas are favouring a four pronged pace attack. That being the scenario the toss is going to be crucial, they'd want a bowl if they  win the toss.
