Pumas ‘biter’ cited

Argentina No 8 Leonardo Senatore has been cited for allegedly biting Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth, reports JON CARDINELLI in Mendoza.

The incident occurred in the 61st minute of Saturday's match, with the citing commissioner deeming it to have met the red-card threshold for foul play.

Earlier in the second half, flank Francois Louw accused Pablo Matera of eye-gouging, although the Pumas flanker has not been cited.

SARugbymag.co.za understands that Etzebeth has the bite marks on his arm to prove there was indeed a transgression. Louw was seen afterwards with a plaster over his left eyebrow. He declined to comment on the nature of the injury.

Speaking after the game, Bok captain Jean de Villiers said he was disappointed that the two incidents weren't spotted by any of the officials during the game.

Senatore is likely to be punished for a lengthy period, but there is a feeling in the Bok camp that he should have received his marching orders in Saturday's Test.

'It was a very ... unfortunate incident,' De Villiers said, trying to diplomatic. 'There were teeth marks on Eben's arm. Then the referee [Steve Walsh] lost communication with his TMO, and they couldn't check the video replay. So we just decided to play on.'

The Boks still managed to beat the Pumas 22-17 after trailing for most of the contest.

Maybe they can take a cast of his jaw to prove that it is his bite marks.

I saw the slo-mo of the play leading up to that incident and Itsabutt looked like he was strangling the Argie with a choke hold.....no excuse for a bite mind you,  but if you want to play dirty then things will happen to you.

Moola I could be wrong but that incident was after Ezebeth was bitten.

He appeared to grab the guy by the throat and then hit him on the head. Judging by his re-action

it seemed he was in shock, and then retaliated.

MOOLAA Although the AB supporters is trying to paint a picture that Etzebneth is a dirty player and then refer to the head butting incident last year - there was no conclusive proof that it ever happened. He is not a dirty player - unlike Retallick who is openly making illegal tackles - inclusive of spear tackles.

Absolute unsubstantiated horseshit Mike, you really have turned into poster more interested in trolling these days, what a shame.

Sharkbok, Itsabutt clearly has the Argie in a choke hold leading up to the incident. As I said, no excuse though for biting him on the arm.

JDV complained to Walsh that he wanted to have the benefit of decisions on foul play during the game (which I can't blame him for wanting) however if the ref starts asking the TMO to look for possible foul play based on what the players say then it could become farcical and a tool used by Captains to slow the game down.

I reckon if the officials don't pick foul play up on their own then punishment must be meted out after the game. It's already "stop-start" enough without it being held up further every time someone calls foul.

lady elizabeth did have his arms around senatores neck, that was very obvious, but while not conclusive, there is plenty of evidence IMO to logically suggest that senatore did bite lady elizabeth and thats completely unacceptable.
i hope not all argentinians treat their ladies like this, LMAO :oP

i can undertstand sneatores frustration with that choke tackle, buthe should have been more disciplined and i hope he gets a lengthy ban.

full credit to lady elizabeth for not punching him in the head and keeping his cool, the Boks were hardout under the pump and a level head is what is required in those situations.

First medical evidence should be obtained to prove that an injury exists, and this infact was from a human bite.

Then take a cast of the accused mouth to prove he was the perpitrator.

This is the only conclusive way to prove that he did bite Etzebeth, because the camera is blocked from view.

Bean Brain looks like the Argies have been studying yr game.

,,,, with the biting ala Johann LeRoux and the eye gouging ala Schalk Burger.

Looks like they're fast learners.

All thats left is for a bit of hair pulling ala Stormers and the odd flying elbow aka  Greyling and they will be on an even keel with the wee boks...lol

After the WC it will be just you and them when SA pulls out of the Super XV for not getting their way with an extra team

...so harden up and get used to it.

These two Argies get cited for incidents where there was little video evidence, but Nonu escaped sanctions for a clear shoulder charge?

The fix is in, eh Beeno?
