Although the youngsters ended up winning - they really were not all that convincing. They went in with the wrong backline to start if off. You cannot play players like Geduld and Kolbe against the very heave English backline. Geduld was replaced early - but then came on Swanepoel and on two occasions his defence flopped. The No 4 lock of SA nearly tosse the game by being idiotic. He should realise it is the objective of the English to have a certain try cancelled whjen the English went for one of the SA players and threw a punch. Players should not react to that type of provocation and he should be severely spoken to about it. That type of thing destroy the chances of the team and should not happen. In any event the forwards did not look good either and they shuld thank their lucky stars that in the erly stages of the game the English youngsters forgot about the laws. We should beat the French and go through to the semi-final, but todays game did not inspire me to believe that the Under 20's can retain the trophy..

Swanepoel was defending for two people, himself and Pollard. Senatla also had a tendency to run out of the line in an attempt to intercept and when he failed he left big gaps for Swanepoel to cover. Robert Du Preez had a bad game as well, he's too small. Pollard 10, Rohan Janse Van Rensburg 12 and Kriel 15 are the backline changes I would make against France.

The issue here is that I do believe France would be beaten easily. If we can rake up 5 points aginst them we would be on top of the log - even if New Zealand gets five points against Ireland as well, and Argentina does the same. As things stand at present -the situation is as follows:- 1 South Africa 2 New Zealand 3 Wales 4 ?????? The outcomes of all the games on Thursday will determine the actual positions. It looks like SA against France and England against Fiji will be the easiest predictable games. The rest will be a cut throat business with the winners going through and the losers - depending on the point difference - competing for the remainder of the log positions. I hope we get a five pointer on the log on Thursday.
