I do beliee in one thng and that is that the All Blacks did a massive amount of development of modern rugby as a sport amd for many years were as a result ranked as the top Rugby Team in the world.

But their record in WC were rather spotty. The following data is of real consequence:-

  1. number of WC tournaments held since 1987 - 10 tournaments of which the Springboks played in 8
  2. Number of tournaments won were as follows:-
  3. Springboks - 4 out of 8 participated in
  4. All Blacks - 3 out of 10 participated in
  5. Wallabies - 2 out of 10 participated in
  6. England - 1 out of 10 participated in

Should the above beng used as a norm the winning percentag es in tournaments are -

  1. Springboks - 50%
  2. All Blacks - 30%
  3. Wallabies - 20%
  4. England - 10%

based on the above the ranking should as ri the WC performances be influenced by the percentage win of trophies of the participating teams.

Boks won in 2019 and 2023….the ABs in 2011 and 2015. So the tie breaker logically could have been RCs over that period, which favors the ABs. Or perhaps more logically the nearest WC to the 2 wins. If we do that South Africa lost by 2 points to NZ in 95 and NZ lost by 1 point to South Africa in 2003, in a final vs a semi. Edge to NZ.

But the reason fans still pull for NZ is they prefer their rugby. We can put this to bed by winning again playing 15 man rugby.
