Rassie Erasmus- Seems Confirmed as the Springbok Director of Rugby

Nothing official yet, but if reports are to believed, he will be back in SA very soon.
Rassie has his critics, but to me, he is a top quality international standard coach. Most of the best coaches are from New Zealand, but Rassie would surely be on the shopping list for many of the top clubs and international test teams.
He seems to have done well at Munster in a short timeframe. 
Coetzee would report to Rassie, which worked well at the Stormers. When Rassie left, the Stormers declined year by year. 
Initially, the Stormers were good on attack and defence, then only good at defence, and then good at neither. 

One can only hope Rassie does get this job Sharkbok. N ext no quotas an we are in with a chance to advance.

He dumped the Cheetahs to run to the Stormers. He dumped Jake White's coaching set-up. He dumped the Stormers to join Heyneke Meyer and ultimately went to some other SA Rugby position. He then dumped them to run to Munster. Now he is apparently dumping Munster again to rejoin SA Rugby. And people are complaining because Jake White dumped the Brumbies.

His effect at the Stormers was hugely positive.Did Rassie get offered permanent positions with White and Meyer?Of course he wants to come back as Springbok director of rugby!!!! As a  36 test match Bok he must feel considerable pain as what has happened to the Boks in recent years.A Chartered Accountant, very, very clever people of course, Cobus Visagie said of Rassie that he is the finest rugby brain he has ever encountered. I still cannot understand how there was so much crap raining on Jake White over the way he dumped the Brumbies, yet Rassie is the be-all and end-all while he has achieved bugger all.

He is not breaking his contract if he is exercising an agreed clause. It is perfectly legal and professional, and part of the initial agreement. His employers knew this clause and agreed on the contract.  
Jake White threw a tantrum when he never got the Wallaby job, and left in a huff. He was thrown out of the Sharks, so that was not really leaving on his own terms

It is official, both Rassie and his sidekick Neibaar are on the agreed notice period, and currently completing their notice period. They should be back in December.

However - the following is the confirmation of the situation:-
SA Rugby has confirmed that Rassie Erasmus will be rejoining SA Rugby to fill a vacant role.

Erasmus, who left a year ago to take up a position with Irish side Munster, will return as the Director of Rugby to oversee South African rugby’s eight national teams, the participation and management of 20 competitions as well as the development of players, coaches and referees.

During his time in Ireland, he was named as Guinness Pro12 Coach of the Year after leading Munster to the top the log for the first time in six years as well as to the semi-finals of the European Champions Cup. Munster won 26 out of 32 matches in all competitions.

Erasmus’s employment with Munster will terminate on 31 December 2017. Jacques Nienaber, who joined Erasmus in Ireland, is also returning to SA Rugby as high-performance coach.

Allister Coetzee’s position as Springbok coach remains unchanged, said Jurie Roux, CEO of SA Rugby.

“Allister has done a great job to turn the Springboks around this season and I can categorically put to rest any idea that he is being replaced as Springbok coach,” said Roux.

“We will do everything in our power to support him for the Castle Lager Rugby Championship and everything that lies beyond that.”

Coetzee will still be a dunce - he is really the PR coach and it will not change in future.

 I think it is a great move to bring him back. Alistair has always been a pupped and a person that takes credit for other peoples work. 
If you look at how the Stormers played during his tenure. It is clear to see how Nienebaar were the major influence as the Stormers had the best defensive record but could never get 4 tries. 
What is Coetzee job when he relies so heavily on his coaches but not a good coach himself. 
Jake doesn't like him either, it is clear to see in that he had to bring in Eddie Jones for the WC to get the boks backline going but had to keep him on to appease the powers that bee. 
Now, we see a massive influence of Brendan Vernter and all of a sudden the boks are world beaters. Don't be fooled, it was France and Brendan Venters influence. 
I think Rassie will bring structures back and ensure that we get the best players in the system as well as coaches. 
I hope he can push for Central contracting of Players as well as coaches and break the the provinces grip of power. 

Rassie will promote Rassie.

The Alberts issue is being dealt with elsewhere.  However, he was as bad as the worst loosie in Springbok history could have been.   He signed a contract with Stade Francais and rarely plays for them.   Like another dud signed by the that team he turns out nearly always on the bench.
I have not heard whether he is again injured - if he is the fat must have snapped again.   

 

 Well Munstermanic, welcome to the forum. I can't disagree with anything you said mate as there are no words in your post.

 Hello Springbok supporters. I am a Munster supporter and like many Munster supporters feel Rassie has misled our players and supporters. Along with Jacques two great coaches who did us proud last season especially in coping with the death of Axel.
We feel that Rassie has been dishonest. He announced in April after months of speculation that he was staying with us. One of his players also confirmed that Rassie had advised them that he was committed to Munster. He told us he had almost signed new players. He made a statement that no new coaches would be appointed as the four current coaches were a tight group.  The latter took place in late May.  Four weeks later he is gone.   I thought Rassie was a man who valued his word. He has been held in high esteem in our small province. He has left Munster in a very difficult place starting into a new season.  Yes he will be here for 6 months but I am sure with one eye on South Africa. Players will need to adjust mid season to a new coaching team.
We wonder was his negotiations with SA going on since his arrival.  Our players have had a very difficult season and we can now right off next season.  I understand that he has always wanted this job but the way he has handled our situation leaves me with a lot of questions about his commitment to club or country. He spoke about his 3 year commitment to Munster and  it's development.  Honesty and loyalty is gone from my beloved sport.

You are better off without him....he has never seen a coaching task through to completion.

 Munstermaniac I fully understand your immense sorrow in losing a very great coach like Rassie but I would think there was some escape clause allowing his to return to South Africa to serve his county.I do trust you have no connection to a couple of extremely clueless Rassie bashers here ( or are here anonymously - JW you might understand what I am on about!).Think of it this way. Would you expect Rodger Federer to spend his time playing club players.  Rassie's talent demand he operates at the very highest levels you understand.

 Brycy so why is Munstermaniac complaining so bitterly about rassie's departure. I tried to cut him a bit short as we have had to deal with the meltdown of the kbbs here as you well know!Naturally a kbbs like you doesn't like the thought of Rassie being so centrally involved. As for Dr Mozzzzz he has been at sea on the Rassie issues for years know.

Now we are in the "honey moon" phase where the coach is great and all problems will be solved. Guess which phases normally follow on from this.
Let's hope he does well if only so that we can we avoid some of the deranged hysteria from a few infamous the SA posters on this site.

 Rassie had a six month release clause built into his contract hence his stay with us until December.  He has been great for Munster but l believe our biggest loss is Jacques. He is a brilliant defence tactician. He was offered the head position with Munster but declined. Once we get a new coaching team on board imho Munster will release Rassie and Jacques. Fyi there is a interview that Jerry Flannery gave to sky that you maybe interested in. He speaks very highly of both coaches.
