as smart as he's made out to be but to be fair he's not as bad a coach as some make him out to be either, all credit to him for taking the Boks from a bottomless pit to a WC win and #1 world ranking.
Problem as I see is that he hasn't evolved the Boks gameplan which now has become very familiar and predictable to the opposition. The element of surprise in the Bok gameplan is non existent and as I've stated the current gameplan is fine in a WC format and on a short term basis but it has too many shortcomings for the Boks to dominate rugby as the AB's of the past.
Based on circumstances leading into the BL series he should be forgiven for sticking with his gameplan but he missed a trick thereafter in not evolving a better gameplan against the Pumas. Stuck in the toughest competition in the southern hemisphere I'd be very surprised to see a change so we can expect to see more of the same.
It would even things out if the Boks knew the opposition gameplan but as things would have it the opposition isn't that dumb.
Bombs away and then some here we come.
