as smart as he's made out to be but to be fair he's not as bad a coach as some make him out to be either, all credit to him for taking the Boks from a bottomless pit to a WC win and #1 world ranking.

Problem as I see is that he hasn't evolved the Boks gameplan which now has become very familiar and predictable to the opposition. The element of surprise in the Bok gameplan is non existent and as I've stated the current gameplan is fine in a WC format and on a short term basis but it has too many shortcomings for the Boks to dominate rugby as the AB's of the past.

Based on circumstances leading into the BL series he should be forgiven for sticking with his gameplan but he missed a trick thereafter in not evolving a better gameplan against the Pumas. Stuck in the toughest competition in the southern hemisphere I'd be very surprised to see a change so we can expect to see more of the same.

It would even things out if the Boks knew the opposition gameplan but as things would have it the opposition isn't that dumb.

Bombs away and then some here we come.

Expect more of the same tomorrow and then a pleasant surprize vs the Allblacks with a few subtle changes here and there. Rassie targets the big matches...it should have been apparent by now that the whole season is a buildup towards a game or two. This year it's the 2 NZ tests. Not saying we're gonna win, or even be good, but these two tests are the target, the rest was practice. The whole season will be judged on tbe success,  or lack thereof,  in these two tests.

Yes, SA need far more than to live off mistakes a good maul and a set piece. This defence focused team is very conservative in their approach. It’s why the Wallabies, even the Pumas found opportunities against this Bok team. Lord knows what a cranking All Black team will do to them.

The reality is that there is very little surprise in any gameplan. The elements that make up the gameplan are ineffective. It's heavily reliant on certain things being true, that the Boks will be physically dominant, that the opposition can't catch the high ball, that they'll defend passively and give us space to run into. Not very good. It doesn't ask enough questions of the defence. You don't need to run the ball a lot, but be effective when you do. In the NFL you run to set up the pass, and pass to set up the run. You make the opposition respect the weaker element of your game even if it isn't great, so you can make what you are good at more effective. We aren't doing that.

2018, which was worse than 2017 in every statistical category, was where Josè tried to be more open with the ganeplan. He made some key failures which hurt us down the line, mostly selections. He stubbornly wouldn't open the playbook for Esterhuizen, but insisted that Damian was an attacking powerhouse with skills. After the RC, he backed out of all of those gimmicks, shapes and patterns aside from the basic structure with 15. He started shifting emohasis to 13 on the ill-fated EOYT. We saw a big shift after that: Keep the ball out of the player's hands and don't allow them to think. Meyer had a base pattern that allowed us to attack from the centre of the field and put decision making power in the hands of 9 and 10. It was flexible and fluid. Josè went to an opposite route, heavily scripted ball control. Every one has a set place to be and a set thing to do to keep the ball moving from X to Y irrespective of what's happening in front of them. Kick, kick and kick. The only wrinkle to the kick game post covid is the importance of penalties from knock ons under the high ball. It's the life blood of our entire blueprint. The Boks cannot stay in the game without an endless stream of lopsided penalty calls. Being given so much biased calls is actually making us sloppier. This will have repercussions in the long term. The plastiks might not care now, but I do.

I think you will find Rassie is the smartest coach we have had Remember it takes game time to evolve - we have not had the luxury of that in the past 18 months

"Remember it takes game time to evolve - we have not had the luxury of that in the past 18 months"

Yes, baby stepps, and you don't experiment too much during a Lions series or a RC...we'll probably see more variation during the year end tour.

When has Harrassmus ever coached good backline play….besides which I thought Nienaber is responsible for all our issues.

Common Draad ... put DumbFuck Dave's dick down.

Your adoration of this lying lowlife is pathetic.

Grow a spine.

The Goats have had as much time as anyone.

They fluked the WC ... and will be shown up as the chumps they are.

Rassie has sold SA rugby out for financial gain ... there is no evidence of his brilliance as a coach ... none whatsoever.

He's a tantrum throwing wannabe.

Bad for SA rugby.

Where is the grumpy little Imp? Has he also grown tired of the nonsense you post?

You haven't explained your comment "negative whining" ...
