I forgot about the fact that we'd be losing Willie later in the rugby Champs. I didn't realise we'd be losing WIllemse as well. That leaves us somewhat stumped at fullback. I think we have seen the last of Francouis Louw as well. His performances have been declining in my opinion.
This was a wasted opportunity to blood Van Staden. Also, I think the Boks are going to feel the loss of W Louw and Mbonambi. Both are pretty valuable players in my book.
Lastly, how can a the Boks lose players to a tournament as, I'm sorry to say, insignificant, as the Currie Cup? Surely the international season overrides anything else? Or are these guys simply of no use any more? In other words, neither the first or second choice in their positions ? No man. it just makes no sense to me. Especially Willemse, Mbonabmi and W Louw. Now we have no specialist fullback! WTF?

Just checked the squad again. We also have only one scrumhalf left. This makes absolutely no sense. What if Faf gets injured? Am I missing something here? Its not April 1st right?

From World Rugby Regulation 9.
(ii) Unless Council approves otherwise the Southern Hemisphere Release Period shall operate each year. It shall commence on the first weekend of August and continue for the next eight consecutive weekends. Players shall be released prior to the Southern Hemisphere Release Period in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 9.9.
First weekend of August 2018 started on Friday 3rd of August. The eighth weekend from there ends on Sunday 23rd of September. The next round of the RC is on 29 September.

For the Currie Cup lads, it's just to get some game time into their legs, it's fair enough - I'm hoping to see Van Staden get more game time this RC, really curious to see what he can bring

Wilco was a rock in three crucial scrums near our line at the end of the game, when NZ was exerting maximum pressure. My guess is he is being released to get a bit more game time...same goes for Bongi and a few others.

Hopefully, some of the players will be returned after playing for their clubs over the weekend.
Although it seems pretty pointless having a player go to England while the rest of the team are preparing in SA for the next test match.
Hopefully, Willie Leroux will be on the next flight after the weekend.
They can keep Francious Louw, he has been useless this season. That knock on last week was pathetic- and it was fortunate that it did not lead to the Boks losing.
No one else made such a basic error for the Boks

Lots of comment on the Louw knock on.....but again it's not that simple. Louw is standing right next to Stephanie with his hands down.....Stephanie has his hands in a receiver position....and continues to have his hands up until the ball is 70% of the way from Faf to Louw. He then abruptly pulls his hands down and at the last second Louw realizes the ball is coming (incorrectly) to him.
For the rest he was aggressive, active and crucially avoided a penalty while harrasing the ABs. In the next move after the ABs got the scrum Louw's speed off the line put pressure on the AB receiver who knocked the ball.
Pesky details, but it's nice to get them right.
That said Louw's form has been patchy and his stakes have certainly dropped....it's hard to see him making the WC.

Louw should have seen the angle of the pass, the same way that Stephanie must have before allowing the ball to float past. This is schoolboy stuff. The wrong person feigns to catch and realizes just before that someone else is the intended recipient- or just in a better position.
The week before Louw was on a Sunday stroll near ever try that was scored by Australia, and his fetching contribution has been zilch.

Let's stick to this test. A pod support member should have realized from the angle of the ball it was meant for him.....a bit harsh. Face it Stephanie was expecting the ball.....and Faf should have passed it to him.
