The Boks will do their training in Japan, instead of SA. The plan is to get used to the conditions. Apparently Japan is even more humid than Durban. (Durban in late Summer).

The new coach is a surprise given he is a defensive coach. Defence has been the strongest area, so replacing an attack coach with a 2nd defence coach to compliment Nienaber could be overkill.

Maybe Swiss will return for the World Cup.

Sure with Louw and Vemeulen in the squad there is vey real worries about the loosies,

Anyway the appointment was made with a different view on the attack issue.  Erasmus does not want to disrupt the attacking approach less than a month before the start of the WC.  He is going to use Jones to help and analyze the attacking approach of NH team backlines.  However, there was a thread on this appointment already on site where an explanation as to usage of Jones was given.

Jake White used to make the Sharks sweat during the hottest times of the day. This was not taken well by the senior players who were used to training in the mornings and later in the afternoons after things had cooled off a bit.

Jake White's reasoning was that training in the heat would make the team used to this in preparation for their home games, that were earlier in the season.  Take a weakness and turn it into a strength.

The likes of Fat Albert must have lots of hundreds of stone.

The Sharks had a good season leading the SuperXV for must of the season, but the wheels fell off at the end. Jake White blamed the Springbok coaching camp, and then when he left to play the Crusaders in a semi-final at Christchurch, he was demanding a neutral ground to make it a competition. After the home semi-final option was gone, anyone and everyone became public enemy number 1 for Jake

SP Marais was the first to get the hairdryer treatment from Jake White, closely followed by the rest of the team

"Sure with Louw and Vemeulen in the squad there is vey real worries about the loosies"

You sound ridiculous.

"Erasmus does not want to disrupt the attacking approach less than a month before the start of the WC."

What attacking approach?

@HerrHaifisch: I am curious how these differing philosophies will mesh for the Boks. Two defence coaches, I can't see that working. Who gives way to who? Nienaber has a proven record at a world cup already. Attack is certainly something the team needs. We don't have a coach capable of developing that side of the Bok brand. Perhaps someone with better film review would help. I don't believe this is up to scratch either.

This is again total idiocy.  I worked for many years in Durban and can tell you lot that often due to heat workers outside of offices are withdrawn from work in the open due to from a medical perspective the effect it can have on health of people/

One summer the air-conditioning system in our office collapsed and the fact is we had to call ambulances to pick up about 30 of our office workers du e to heats stroke. It is a supreme idiot that would have players at the hottest of times during days in the open.   No medical doctor would support it.   The effects would not enhance the physicality of players - it will reduce it.  Dr Jannie du Plessis would have realized it and he was one of the players who was objected to White's conduct in 2014 at the Sharks.

The two defense coaches story is a misleading interpretation as to what Erasmus really said about the usage of Jones,   He will NOT take over the functions of Nienaber and was obviously the ATTACK coach of Munster.   I believe there is another reason behind the appointment of Jones.  That is that he is on an unofficial trial to be appointed as Chief Coach after the WC.

Just a small problem with that logic. If it was dangerous for the players to train in the heat, why is it okay for them to play in the heat. Riddle me that Muck.

Mozart

The top heat time is from about 9 in the morning to  about 4 in the afternoon and is often coupled with high levels of humility,   It is when the joint humiture  reading is 105 that outside work is normally abandoned.

Matches in Durban normally start at 17:00 or later - outside of the main heat cycle.

BS Clevermike, 11-3pm would be a more accurate time. I grew up surfing in Durban, so my knowledge of the weather is pretty solid

Hahahaha....as is true in every country and region. Old Muck's clock is so far off because of his 3.00 am posting, he doesn't know night from day. The Sharks have shown diddly since White left. Go Jake WC winner and best Sharks coach in recent memory!

I worked in the Durban area from 1974 to 2012 - ie for 37 years an the fact is that as per normal shit spreading is prevalent about the idiots on site,   Most problems at night has very little to do  with heat and very much to do with high humidity,   During the day the combination of heat and humidity can be a major problem.

Anybody who do what SB claim White did must either be stupid or if true White must be a complete idiot if a he tried that one.

Does growing up in Durban makes you a work expert on labour issues?   Don't become an Idiot Speaker like Mozart and AO.

So the Sharks should not play rugby or train during the humid season?  Also because you get hot at night, that means it is more humid at night time. More BS.

SB

I never said that - what I said is that outdoor training during the day should never be at the hottest time.   Indoor training in an air-conditioned situation is fine.   Outd oor training should be  earlier during the morning and later in the afternoon.

I know this story originated from the coke-sniffing expert  and do not think White would have done what he claimed  he did.   If he did want players to do such training he definitely deserve his firing by the Sharks.

I remember a time when men were men, not soft little Schlappschwänze. Jake wanted to lead men, not little boys. He found men at the Brumbies.

Hell - you are stupid, but maybe you may understand what follows.    At a meeting dealing with damage to bridges in the flood disaster in 1987 - I made the following comments since none of the bridges built in the early 1900's was washed away:-

"Those bridges were built by men of steel - those built over the last 40 years were built by men where the steel went into their heads,"

What was the outcome of this meeting? Not create bridges when it was humid?

The y did built two diversion walls on my recommendation when it became evident that the floods caused a change in river flow that would have destroyed the approach to the bridges - eg the  Umdloti River bridge on the M4 - so despite a facetious  statement by me, they did listen to what I said at the meeting  and made some changes to safeguard washing away of bridges and in particular the road approaches to bridges, ,

However, I was fully aware that modern bridges are built in areas where the foundation situation for such structures  were not really suitable and where in earlier times engineers would not have built bridges.  An example is the John Ross bridge over the Tugela River - which collapsed totally during that flood, because of deficient ground conditions to ensure stable foundations and that was part of the problems discussed.   Further safety measures were introduced as the foundation of new bridges to  ensure future safeguards to protect bridges.

Anyway - most of the engineers present at the meeting knew me well enough to accept caustic comments on issues - so they were not too upset by what I said at the meeting and in fact enjoyed the joke.   LOL
