Rassie Erasmus, the Springbok coach, said he is reconsidering his planned selections for next week’s second Test against Italy in Gqeberha after being left frustrated by his team’s underwhelming 42-24 win in Pretoria. Erasmus had initially planned to rotate as many as 13 or 14 players into the lineup, but after the performance, he indicated that some of those plans might change. He emphasized that while those players would not be discarded, some might move to the bench, and standout performers from the first Test could start again. Erasmus stated:

“Internally, we’ve announced that 13, 14 players that will definitely get a run next week, and that we’d build the bench or starting line-up around those guys. We won’t discard those guys but some of them might move to the bench, some of the real standout players who played today might start again. The make-up of the team may change to handle the physicality that Italy threw at us… We have to make sure that the team that we put out next week is not just a team that can go 50 or 60 minutes, it must be a team that can go 80 minutes.”

Erasmus described the performance as “frustrating” and “disappointing,” noting that Italy’s young and passionate side exposed several areas of concern for the Boks. He concluded that the selection for next week is now “interesting” and will be adjusted to ensure a more complete performance over the full 80 minutes

I do hope Rassie takes this as a wake up call. We love this team and they have done so much nut we have seen over the years that when a player get closer to 35 the harder it is for them to stay with the game.

many years ago I watched Neil Back play in a semi in the European cup. A small but fierce flanker that help England win the World Cup beloved by many fans just couldn’t keep up with the game. He was caught in the middle as the ball went all over the park and all he could do is just watched as everything went passed him.

It felt the same, watching Eben getting driven back over and over again. Bongi not finding his mark, Willie having the perfect opportunity to cut the line to score but his legs wasn’t there. Faf had a few good passes but other than having his blond locks not much to offer. Moster had no impact on the game and our scrum didn’t get better with Koch. He did get a try though. But nearly 40 min was too much for them.

Now Rassie is saying he need players that can play 80 min.

glad to hear that. Let’s see who he picks

Italy with a young side and France with some youngsters showed the benefit of giving the youngsters a run

Playing the Baabaas, Italy x 2 and Georgia was the perfect opportunity to blood the youngsters - now that opportunity is missed.

Playing the side we did against Italy served no purpose at all - there was nothing new to see

The players that woulld be benched in the e secod test is likely Pollard, Willie - to get his 100th test career ending - Etzebeth and Van Staden amongst others,

Willemse will again start at 15 because he can cover at least 4 backline positions. Roos will start as well/
