.....Luke Watson is the biggest prick ever produced by South African sport. Totally useless as a player as well, against the more physical teams.

What Div said:"Div: Luke 'wasn't a good team man'

Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers should not be expecting any Christmas cards or dinner invitations from the Watsons in PE."

Funny that him and Jake should agree on this issue?

He was a terrible player. His tests were a shambles and both the Sharks and Stormers improved as soon as he left.

There we go again!  Name calling.  He was no great player at all - he was never a TEAM guy and to top it all he is too small and hangs around the back of the maul alot.  Opportunistic little squirt.  Let him go puke some place else.

Problem with you lot is that you let Luke the person cloud your rugby judgement. Most will agree he was a damn fine rugby player, there is no disputing that at all.

Good one Moffie, fresh coming from the man who thought Adi and Bosman were great - need I say anymore?

ou pdv complains about Hoskins calling him a quota coach but he never resigned now did he.

He has however to be commended for speaking out about all the political interference and the disgusting role played by Cheeky Watson etc.

Also I commend him for speaking out re the refs and BL in particualr.

Well done pdv!

As for Luke at his best a good player but not Bok material.

Another difference between Jake and PDV. Jake produced despite all the crap. Twakkies blames all the crap for his failures.

Yep, Cera - you are either part of the problem or part of the solution - the choice remains.

I heard many on several sites call Jake arrogant. Here is a fairly good window into how he thinks. Taking it on the chin as always.

In all the time I watched him play Watson was a no show against any big pack. The Bools owned the little tyke and the All Blacks chucked him around like a rag doll.

The fact that he was ever even considered for the Boks is a joke.

Politics, huge media hype  and carefully doing only those things that flattered him. But of course that was at S14 level only. By contrast, spot Adi' s brilliant long range strike against Oz to close this list of great Bok tries. Adi performed at international level, albeit only for a few years.

Moz do you expect me to believe that is the reason Watson won player of the year. Watson has no supporters because of who he is. I see past that and see him for the great player he was. He added a new dimesion to loosie play, much like Bob and Daniel do/did and Brits did/does as a hooker. I will always maintain that I would always make place for players like Brits and Daniel in my squad of 30 as they give you different options. I see no point in selecting two similar players when you can add variety to the equation.

As for Adi, what a useless player he was - you will find you are very alone in your support of this sad excuse for a centre.

On the contrary Sapp at the end of 2008 the critics picked either Adi or Conrad Smith as the best 13 of the TN. His stats were in fact the best of any TN centre.

You by contrast.....when presented with a choice of Schalk and Watson as young players.....were firmly in the Watson camp. What a faux pas.

What nonsense, Adi has never been recognised as anywhere near the best centre at any point. The lad has recieved negative press throughout and for good reason.

Yes there is no way in hell I would have ever selected Schalk as an opensider, simple because he never has been one. You dont get 112kg fetchers

There is no way, except in hell, I'd select Puke for any position in the Bok team....even ball boy.

I know that and you are not alone. As a coach I would have wanted Watson in my squad on playing merit but his agenda would have prevented that as it did. A wasted talent and he only has himself to blame for no one is going to remember him for the stance he took for it served no purpose at all

It's very true, Schalk has never been an openside flank. When looking over the 2004 and 2005 TNs erlier in the year I realised that I had in fact overestimated his real contributions to the Boks. No doubt he has a presence that has a galvanising effect on he players around him but he is not the player he is made out to be at all. That said, Watson was not even a shadow of the player Schalk ever was, not even in his dire 2010 season. Solly and Kabamba were rightfully placed ahead of him, and both went on to prove themselves in all their tests they played; something Watson couldn't do in 10 attempts. I am less concerned by him as a person than I am about him as a player. Were he a quality player then I would indeed factor in his bad personality, but when you are dealing with something that is substandard it becomes very simple. You don't need to dissect the topic that deeply. Watson just wasn't a good player.

As for the 2008 TNs; Adi's supposed ascension to the zenith of test rugby. I have all the tests right here for anybody who wants it. Adi was a non-factor. In fact, I have the il-fated 2006 TNs on disk as well. Fourie was magnificent. It's night and day between the two. Heck, watching Olivier weave his way through several All Blacks and setup a splendid try was also something to behold! The only peope who ever rated Adi were racists looking for an icon to worship as their answer to white players and Moz.
