I am off to warch the cricket and will be brief. The Crusaders were all over the Reds and am hoping thye meet the Chiefs in the next round. I had a look at McCaw - he seems to carry some lard and did not impress at all during the time he was on. Hope they do not play him in the starting line-up next week - he would not really make the grade I am afraid. I was happy about the rest of my selections for the fantasy competition and especially about Carter as my captain for the week. The players that seem to struggle to keep up with the rest of this exciting team are Read and Dagg - both made some errors and Dagg was fairly harmless in attack. The only real weakness in the Crusaders team is Crocket and Ben Franks as their props. Looking forward to tomorrows game and would as I said the brumbies to win that one. That would mean the semis will be Crusaders against the Chiefs in Hamilton and I think the Chiefs will lose by the proverbial mile.

 Franks is probably the best tighthead in the game and Crockett as Sean Fitzpatrick said on Sky, is the best loosehead in NZ, thereby making him one of the best in the game.

 

Mike your take on those two props is uttter rubbish

As predicted, Ewen "the saviour" McKenzie gets off to a shit start as Peds were totally outclassed by Saders. 

No miracles for the Wannabies in 2013 but more heartache vs the ABs.

I hope he continues to play the hapless Cooper...he's dumb enough to!

Saffex How many scrum penalties do these two give away before people realize they are not the best around. The best in New Zealand - yes - but the best in the world nevr.

 Franks is the best tighthead in the game. Crockett gets penalised when dominating his opponent. You are clueless when it comes to props.

 

Franks does not give away penalties

 

Give me Franks and Crockett anyday

 Pffffft!  How many Tri Nations, Rugby Championships, Mandela Plates, Bledisloe Cups, Grand Slams, World Cups does a player have to win before we can start to consider them the best in the world? By mikes warped logic you don't have to win any. In fact, the barer the trophy cabinet the better the player.  Hehe.....

Saffex Both are penalty machines - Franks not as bad as Crocket. In Super 15 this year Crocket has given away 25 penalties and Franks 10. Those are basic stats and correct. That in the main is why I query their capacity. I think they were equally guilty against the French as well - so they are indeed penalty prone because of their scrumming. I know Ben Franks gave away 21 penalties - so he is much worse than his brother.

10 penalties in 16 games is hardly an issue now is it, particularly when the refs get so many of the scrum penalties wrong. So saying he is a penalty machine is just a lie. Franks is the best tighthead in the world and that is a fact,

 

As for Crockett, he gets pinged for scrumming in, its bullshit......he invariably is knocking the shit out of his opposite number in the scrum.

 

Franks and Crockett are amongst the best props in the game and that is a FACT

One would have to see if any critical points were lost due to those penalties to make a fair assessment of their bearing.

I am no expert, especially when it comes to frontrows but hey, these Crusaders look the business. I think it will be an all NZ final. The Crusaders look like the team to beat. Bulls will get no further with their pap frontrow and the Cheetahs may just win the Brumbies but then like the Sharks last year they too will run out of steam and luck. Crusaders may just win again this year.

Saffex Balls - to say the least. Crocket pushed on the ground with his fist and does not bind - hence the penalties. Rgeir averge scores in test rugby are as follows:- Franks - 134 Crocket - 122 In Foxsport they are doing better as is wcidenced by the following:- Franks - 22 Crocket - 15 Franks is statistically far better than Crocket - who is on all accounts a vey questionable international player. You can have them - and so can the AB's - they are at best average in the case of Franks and a disaster in the case of Crocket.

Stats are great after the fact, but don't always accurately predict how things actually go game time. AB's found that out in England...but in this case with the discussion about Franks and Crockett leave it to the person that really matters.....the coach....after all he's the one who has spent more time with the players and knows whether they warrant selection or not! Best in world don't know but AB's want props that well...prop they're part of a team and contribute to a win or loss.

McKenzie won the top job because he promised the ARU that he'd win back the Ozzie crowd by playing attacking rugby......well that maybe so but there ain't no sense in playing attacking rugby when you can't break the defensive line. My guess is that he's going to back Quade Cooper all the way to the WC playing attacking rugby only to learn that crowds don't flock to see losing attacking teams.

Denny Despite all the talk McKenzie had a spotty record this year with the Reds and the spotty basically refer to some good games - like the Chefs and some disasters like the Cheetahs. none of the Aussie teams were really adequate performers this year - but I still think the Brumbies was marginally better. I can see some real problems for the Wallabies looming this year - unless some miracle happens and am afraid that the miracle is not going to be performed by McKenzie. It is the same with Aussie cricket. The change from Arthur to Lehman seems to be another misadventure on their part - if the Ashes tests thus far is anything to go by.
