Yes, I was intrigued by some past records and eventually made my way to the first two Tri-Nations. It dawned on my as I went from one year to the next that the present years SH campaign was the worst in the history of Australian rugby. Never before have Australia been so comprehensively beaten, neigh, whitewashed by New Zealand and South Africa! Not even in 2005, when Eddie Jones was sacked. His side, though injury ravaged, was in the running to win almost every game, it was that close. This year? Utterly blown away. It's clear though that Australia are NH quality right now. A fully firing Argentina and Italy though was still too much for them, and Samoa would be a real handful as well. This has got to be the worst Aussie side in history. But why are we only saying this now? Because Dingo Deans held this team together, punching well above their weight, for many years. Ewan's RC falls well short of any year Dean's was in charge. Take note that he started his tenure with the fresh retirements of Gregan and Larkham, yet still thumped New Zealand and World Champions South Africa in his first season. Even thumped the 2009 Boks and broke several records in SA as well as notched up a Tri Nations trophy in the bag. It appears that Australians are very poor sports, and dump the blame squarely on a man who is clearly head and shoulders better than Ewan. I think the ARU did Jake a favor by giving him the cold shoulder. He would have been another excuse, an opportunity to shift the blame away from their shores.
