I would not normally criticize refereeing - but todays performance was a disgrace. First off all - looking at the tackle Du Plessis put in on Carter. I looked at that one repreatedl;y7 and it was a LEGAL TACKLE. There was no illegality involved and the referee saying Du Plessis was not using hi arms in the tackle was a complete fabrication. To then give a penalty and a yellow card was absolute rubbish. This was followed by another yellow for Du Plessis because he was using his arm to fend of a tackler and consequently turned into a red card - leaving SA to play with 14 men for 50 minutes of the game. The above ludicrous decisions made me stopped watching the game half way through the match and I am saying again - this is a disgrace of IRB refereeing. I think there will be complications and the referee involved has probably reffed the last international game ever. This referee decided the outcome of the game and that is totally unacceptable - end of story.

Bullshit Mike! It was not a legal tackle as Bismarck was about 20 metres off side. Had he been on side then Carter would not have been the sitting duck that he was and badly hurt as a consequence.

In the 2nd incident Bismarck illegally raised his elbow into Messam's face so rightfully received a yellow.

All in all a good decision from the ref. Bismarck deserved everything he got! Another example of Bok thuggery.

actually I blame the Boks for the way the game turned out! Deliberately going out of their way to injure the key ABs players is not something new! You make your bed, you lie down in it!

Bismarks offside hit on Carter (Worse than Victor Matfield head high shot on Carter)

Habbana directly running into Israel Dagg under the high ball!

moola.

Are you insane?

The hit on Carter: the penalty was for a dangerous tackle.  Not off side.  The  second penalty was 50/50 at best. a penalty maybe.  a card? Not on your life.have some decency man.

yes, and then to make it up to the Boks in the last 10minutes he sent off both Reid and Nonu! What the heck........he should never ref another international again  - he is almost as bad as Wayne Barnesy! BUT I still blame the Boks for the Shambles!

the ARU and the Wallabies are to blame for the current scrum and it's so called shambles - their mininions are forever trying to give the Wobblies forwards a level playing field in the scrums because they are so bad at them! So they change the laws, the terms of engagment, anything to negate the scrum! And still they are still bad at it despite all that help to prop up the Wobbly scrum - ironic really that Keansey (a former Wobbly) is crying foul seeing all the help his team is getting!

Yep Hakwa after watching the game again Bismark was wayyyyy off side giving him a huge advantage as DC rightfully thinks that no one will hit him in time ,the tackles OK but he was deliberately off side so as to take out DC ,2nd was deserved for using his forearm so fuck him the grub .First chance he got you could see him go for it to deliberately take out DC , no sympathy from me now for that prick .

Wardad: I won't be able to see the game again until tonight but I will be watching the tackle on Carter. The replays during the game showed that Bismark used his arms but as the commentators said he was off-side. Was this worth a yellow - not sure about the rules but it did result in a player being injured and unable to play so maybe it is a judgement

The second yellow was deserved no doubt he used his forearm to the neck. Shame all of this impacted the game. Now how can we assess the Boks progress? Oz only just beat Argies (1 point win) so the Boks win over Oz is not the best of indicators to assess Bok progress.

I will make my mind up when I see the game again but so far the player ratings for the Boks are not that good and they are good for the All Blacks. That is one indication.

Bottom line is we have to wait for the re-match.

moolaa You are cracking up - there WAS NOTHING WRONG with the tackle on Carter. The ref said he did not use his arms and use that as an excuse for the yellow card. That was an outright lie - if you look at the incident. The second story about Du Plessis being off-side is a myth - he was not. Even if he was - since when is a yellow card a penalty for being off-side? This story is not going to end here - I am afraid. There will be an enquiry and that ref is a goner - he will not ref another international match in future.

Mike your boys deliberately went out of their way to injure key ABs players! That the Test became a shambles after that is your fault and not the refs!

Agree, mike was terrible. Bismark was really cranking. It changed the game after that. The SA played some fantastic rugby. I still enjoyed the test. Best test ive seen for years. The two teams really went at each other. Been missing for a while. SA will be a big step to beat at home. Well done to both teams.

Mike, as usual you are blind! Bismarck was way off side so Carter would have had no inclination he was going to get smashed like he did and therefore did not have the chance to brace himself.

So good job the ref; stamp out thuggery of the worst kind when you can. A more cynical foul is hard to imagine!

The ref should be applauded for his courage and not lambasted by one-eyed Saffa whingers.

Bryce Lawrence must be beaming!

I agree 100% ,he deliberately took him out from an offside position ,and if he had a brain in his boof head he would have kept out of the refs eye but noooo he's too farkin stupid to do what any schoolboy player knows , cop it sweet and pull ya stupid head in ! so tough titty for him .ABS would win anyway ,why would they need help playing in Die Schwatze Festung ????

Some guys on here should go revisit the rule book. Dan Carter takes a 22 drop out, the ball bounces in front of Vermeulen between the 10m and half way, it bounces back into the hands of Tony Woodcock and the All Blacks immediately spread it wide. This sounds like broken play, no ruck had been formed so there was no offside line. Bismarck had done nothing wrong. In actual fact Carter's awareness was lacking. He should have known it was still broken play. Bismarck was playing well within the rules. That Carter got insured is unfortunate but it is part of the game. When it comes down to it the wrong application of the laws robbed us all of what was shaping up to be a massive contest. A contest the All Blacks probably would have won but none the less, we the viewing public have had a potential spectacle stolen from us.

Within the rugby world a lack of discipline would be classified as breaking the laws. How did we lack discipline by playing within the rules? No, the fact is both teams fronted up. Up to that point it was frenetic and the collisions were huge. It was shaping up to be a massive contest. Then and incident occurred where the laws were not applied correctly and it ruined the potential of the match. No conspiracy, no bribery, just a damn shame.

Dont think Bismark knew he was not allowed to tackle Dan Carter! How stupid of him!

Worst French ref i have ever seen. I give him a RED card for destroying the game.

The Card system is outdated and is destroying Rugby. Rugby must remain a contest. Discipline the player not the Team! Players who transgress can be sent off the field BUT they must be replaced  by another ensuring the team still has 15 players. Rugby wins! IRB catch a wake up!

Sadly for SA its hard enough trying to beat the Blacks with 15 men but with 14 the game went stale...

Congrats NZ you got it fair and square! We await the return match back in SA.

Moolaa Have you gone crackers. Look at the sequence of play. Carter kicked in the ball from the 25 - the ball bounced awkwardly and went back to Tony Woodcock - he passed to Aaron Smith and Smith passed to Carter. There was no maul, no knock-on - not anything that would make the off-side rule applicable. And it was a legitimate tackle - that is the end of the story.

Let's add a bit of sanity to the debate. Bismarck's tackle was perfectly legal, even your own comentators said so. If he was offside, and I'm not saying he was....it should have been an offside penalty...no card. If we start carding big tackles the game is done. - Bismarck's second card was deserved, but should then only have been a yellow. Silly of Bismarck to get his elbow up like that. Having said that, a great Hollywood job by Messam, who was immediately fine after the red was issued and never touched his neck again. - As for the Habana incident your commentators initially said Habana ran through Dagg. They corrected themselves after watching the replay and said it was 50/50. In fact Habana had stopped and turned to look for the ball and Dagg ran through him trying to get to it. - This Bok paranoia you guys have is nonsense. It was a good hard game on both sides, with the dirtiest incident the Nonu late hit, without arms, on Jean.

Xtramick, Mike & Hasbeeno.....read the rugby rule book if you are able!

Of course you can be off-side in general play! The off-side line is where the ball is and Bismarck had in no way retired behind the ball. In that position he is not entitled to advance towards the player until he has run at least 5 metres with the ball or another SA player plays Bismarck onside by himself coming from an onside position.

So Bismarck's action in blindsiding Carter was a deliberate attempt to put him out of the game and he succeeded but he also succeeded in putting himself out after the 2nd dumb action! It's obvious that Dr Jannie got all the brains in the Du Plessis family when they were handed out.

Once again, Bok thuggery has come back to haunt you long suffering supporters....you should be pissed at Bismarck as he's the sole reason the game was spoilt, not the French ref.

But come to think of it, that's not your style....the ref's always to blame!!

NJ /New Jerk ,the poor wee sainted bismark neanderthal sank himself ,his prior history of grubbiness [ attacking someones eyes is absolutely disgusting no matter who you are ]  is like the ghost of Christmas past dragging that ball and chain around . Its not the ABS fault the ref took into account his past history in a team replete with grubby history now is it ? so be a good boy and while your up there in rectumville say hi to beanbraino and all the other cry babies please ? So the golden boy went down after a completely legitimate tackle against a bigger man than himself... what next? Wrap him in bubble wrap to ensure he looks good in his next underpants photo shoot? Or better yet - write it into the rule books that Dan Carter can only be tackled once he is completely prepared for it (and even then not too hard please - sacred cow/fragile goods here) or maybe upon receipt of his written consent? To silence all the gay All Blacks fans here... to quote NZ rugby legend Tana Umaga - "It's not tiddlywinks is it?"

As for last night's "shambles".

Pick a sport out of a hat - cricket, soccer, cycling... respective governing bodies have undertaken serious investigations into match fixing/corruption in the sport - how about rugby? No way!! Only honest souls involved here... Before a chorus of idiots start bleating... I'm NOT blaming the NZRU or the All Blacks, etc... but ask yourself? If you have a significant financial interest in a particular outcome (in other words the betting industry) how much money do you lose if you're paying out higher odds on the "underdog" side coming up trumps and they actually win - especially in such a high profile test? It's incredible to me that the IRB wouldn't look into this seriously and also how naive it is to assume this couldn't/doesn't happen.

The above is not meant to explain away every single All Blacks victory - I'm not trying to launch into a baseless conspiracy theory here - I'm talking about last night's game. Can anyone honestly, honestly say the reffing didn't affect the outcome?

Maybe the All Blacks would've won the match anyway, maybe not? My gripe is not because we lost... it is motivated by the manner of the loss... like watching a boxing match were one boxer has an arm tied behind his back. I'll always be frank about the high standard of the All Blacks win record, but these "stink" matches not only detract from their win last night, they harm the sport we love. I for one tuned out after the BdP red card, which was effectively the "game over" moment... not really prepared to stand back & "marvel" at the illustrious "men in black" beat up on neutralized opposition, and any All Blacks fan who is genuinely proud of that win last night has a truly limited understanding of the concept of sportsmanship.

If it was the All Blacks on the receiving end of such rough justice who would be "bleating" here (I mean for God's sake can we please stop hearing about how you got poisoned in '95 or about that "forward pass" in '07 - what do you guys call it when you chuck the ball forward again? A "flat" pass right?), but it wasn't... In any event the comments regarding thuggery are clearly justified, after all the AB's are a better class of players who would never resort to cheap tactics like a no arms shoulder charge or cynically fouling play? Never!!... pure as a fresh dusting of snow they are...

The tackle was legal, ABs thought otherwise & waded into the Bokke, assaulting all in their path..... penalty Bokke, & possible further sanctions against the AB ringleaders who launched the attack .

That's what happened & that should've been the result .

umm how can a player deemed offside make any tackle of any type that could even remotely be considered legal, even if it was'nt high? Does'nt make any sense.

Why run the risk of being carded by going high in the first place?

In future then why not consider substituting players yellow carded in the first half at halftime instead of running the risk of getting two which is a sending off .

Bismark gambled on being onside and lost while going high also a gamble . The Springboks also gambled and lost not benching him at halftime fully knowing his hotheaded history before he had a chance to reoffend.

The moral of the story i guess is don't gamble. I here it can be terribly addictive and people have lost everything because of it - even test matches.

Hopefully Bok supporters did'nt lose too much of their hard earned rand from gambling on the Springboks this weekend.
