Has been simply sensational for Saints this season. All over the park and scoring in almost every game he is playing. He simply has to be Faf’s back up

They have just said he has scored 12 tries in 12 starts this season

Has his all-round game also improved like Faff? - e.g. kicking, and clearing the base of the ruck with Northern Hemisphere  rules.Reinach was in some ways another Hougaard, very good on a fast dry pitch. His clearance at the base of the ruck was certainly better than Hougaard, but he lacked a tactical kicking game - at least at test level

His kicking game is on par with Faf. His strength is his speed, the guy is super quick like his dad was. A busy player like Faf, they are very similar in fact. He controls the game like Faf does. MOM again tonight against the Tigers. They asked him after the game if Rassie had been in touch. Faf is our starter......the back up options are Schreuder, Papier and v Zyl currently but Reinach is far better than these 3. Reinach has to be the Bok 9 back up on current form. You can’t ignore 12 tries in 12 games from a scrum half

Many of our chaps have improved up north. If this is true for Reinach and his technical skills are up to par, his athleticism would make a strong case. Face it, none of our other scrummies are test class.

I'd be happy with Reinach as the back up but where does that leave Papier in the numbers game?

Very similar to Faf in tempo and aggressiveness.

Only Papier has test potential of the incumbents . I have seen nothing from Van Zyl to suggest he is even Super Rugby standard.

I like the look of Papier but it’s early days. The Saints coach summed Reinach up perfectly - mature head on fast legs

Dave

Erasmus said h is looking at about 12 players from NH clubs and I am sure that Reinach is one of those.   It does not mean that he would actually pick 12 such players for the WC squad - that is not likely to be more than 4 or 5.

There are some NH club players who could be considered - but there are also players like Louw and Steyn who essentially are over-the hill players

I would look only at about five - inclusive of Coetzee. Koch and Jacques du Plessis amongst the forwards  and  De Klerk, Reinach, Serontein and DH van der Merwe amongst the backs..  .

The best NH based forward is probably Pierre Schoeman. The players I would definitely be looking at are Willie, Duhan vd Merwe, Kolbe, Immelman, Janse v Rensburg, Frans Venter, Serfontein, Jaco vd Walt, Goosen, Faf, Reinach, Schoeman, Kebble, Marcel vd Merwe, Koch, Jean Kleyn, Jacques du Plessis, Jaco Kriel, Marcel Coetzee, Mostert (at 7) Carr, Arno Botha and Ackerman

Jaco Kriel and Marcel Coetzee!!

Imagine those two with Thor.

Yaaa mommy that would be a dream.

To have that skill in our back row would be awesome.

It would also mean that Kolisi can stay home and have more time to swap piccies with his other bae's online.

Safesex, how is AC Kerman playing? He had some nice potential.

I like some players on Dave's list -

*    Duhan van der Merwe  - he is  top class playing for Edinburh;

*    Jaco van der Walt was never given a chance to lay for the Lions at flyhalf - but he has been goven a chance by Edinburgh to play at flyhalf and is doing exceptionally well;

*    Reinach  is doing even better than Faff at scrumhalf;

*    Pierre Schoeman also plays for Edinburgh and made mincemeat of most other scrummagers in the European Champions Cup comp;

Som e of the others I have mentioned previously also.

Frans Venter is a cart horse. A brainless donkey, and not a very strong one at that.

I wonder if Duhan Van Der Merwe has his hopes on playing for Scotland.

It seems a bit late in the day to bring him in for the world cup for the Boks . Also, the wing is pretty much reserved for non-white players it seems.

SB

Don't think he is set on Scotland yet,  He moved to Scotland at the beginning of 2018 and would not qualify to play for them until early in 2022 .

Funny though Akker is his brother - and he is moving to play in England - but will not be allowed to play for England. because he did play from the bench for the Springboks.

The family is from George and I doubt very much if they intend to relocate at this stage,

Why is the useless Van Zyl starting ahead of Papier? The only reason is that Van Zyl has more of a kicking game, but it is not very good. He is a slow and cumbersome.

Chipit, Papier is a player of colour, not black. Surprising the transformation requirements at Bok level are not being enforced in SuperRugby.

Much of the transformation laws focus on black people these days, and ignore other races along with white people

Chipo who the fuck is AC Kerman? I take it you mean Ruan Ackerman - they love him at Gloucester - he has been very strong. My Pom mates say he will be playing for England when eligible!! Add the du Preez twins and Jacques du Plessis to the loosie equation if you are after physical beasts I don’t get the anti Kolisi at all are we watching the same rugby matches?

I gave Kolisi a plus for his recent performances - but I think that some members are prejudiced against him from a quota perspective.

We have so many brilliant players up north ... and yet when they were here with  us they were as average as average can be.

Faff went overseas ... he was made out to have been transformed into this beast ... then he returned ... only to be the same man he was when he left. He still has a poor pass, especially off his left hand ... no kicking game ...

Same can be said of Willie Le Roux. He too became a superstar abroad ... then he returned home and all I see is the same brain farting fool that left.

Is Reinach any different?

I doubt it.

@mike... Me not rating Kolisi has nothing to do with skin color. Stop being your usual blithiring idiot self.

@safesex... I just feel that he blows hot and cold during game time. He is capabale of the sublime, but then he'll miss 2 piss easy tackles (this is just an example).

I'd prefer Jaco Kriel over Kolisi anyday. Kriel offers the sublime, yet still puts in a full effort for 80 minutes... non stop.

Guys like Burger, PSdT, Brussouw were all different types of loosies, but all gave a full 80 minutes.

---------------------------------------------------------

There have been times during games that i have said out loud "what the fuck was he thinking"...

like that moment against Oz (in Oz 2018) when he literally watched the ball being overthrown from a lineout, he watched it bounce about 1 meter away from him, he watched an Aussie run at the ball, he watched the Aussie grab the ball, he watched the Aussie dive over and score...

Moments like that also tell a lot about a players mental capacity for quick decisions.

Now this oke is our captain? You tell me...

Thats all my gripe really is with regards to Kolisi.

Don't get me wrong...

I'm not a hater.

He does some fantastic work sometimes.

He just wouldnt be my first choice.

I would also prefer Kriel over Kolisi - but Kolisi is at least showed some form in recent matches and give credit to him in that regard.

Maybe you have misinterpreted what my intention was in the relevant regard,

Kolisi is not an openside flank ... never has been ... not at Super Rugby level ... and definitely not in any test team ... in other words, he doesn't belong in the 6 jersey ... at all.

Blowing luke warm and ice cold is not what one wants as a rugby player ... not in any position.

He's a quota ... his skin colour landed him the 6 jersey as well as the captaincy.

The little bits of "form" Kolii shows from time to time is still not test standard.

Jaco Kriel is a 100 times better player than Kolisi and unlike Kolisi, he doesn't need to have a team talk to decide on any on field calls. He knows how to lead a team of players.

Appointing Kolisi as the Bok 6 and capt is Rasie's single biggest blunder.

Cc It can hardly be attributed to Erasmus. Political interference is an old adage of sport in SA. Had it not been for that, the only time Kolisi would get to meet Erasmus would be at The V&A Waterfront, during a Bok autograph day.

Reinach was pretty dam decent before he left SA. It was such as shame as Meyer preferred Fourie Dupreez, but then again who could compete against 9 of his generation.

But him Faf does share a lot of similarities so I wonder if Rassie is look at tactical options rather than just the best 1 and 2.

Van Zyl seems to have the better kicking game of the lot. Papier and Faf is similar, but Papier was absolutely useless over the weekend.

That said, I would have Reinach, Papier and Faf as my WC 9's. All 3 has some form of utility. Faf can especially shift to 10 if needs be and the other 2 on the wings

Disagree on Kolisi I think he is world class. He was our best carrying forward last year. He does not effect as many turnovers as he should but that job is left to Marx. Kolisi is good at busting tackles on the charge. CC you are speaking horse shit as per usual. Faf was brilliant for the Boks so much so he was regarded as the best 9 in the game last year. Without Willie the Boks lack creativity, he is a must

It was not that Meyer preferred  Fourie Du Preez - who played no rugby for 14 months before the WC only .   He also preferred Du Preez and Paige to Reinach.

All three together means a farce in triplicate!!!!!!!!!!

Saffex, I have to disagree with you on Kolisi, before you shoot me down for being bias. Kolisi is a class stacking player, but over the last couple of seasons he his bulked up a lot, but now struggles to last the whole game as he new muscular physique can't keep up with the pace of the game.

Just go back to the game we won against the kiwis last year and watch Kolisi closely, he is really poor on defence, often shits into the second channel and hardly put himself into a position to poach a ball. Which is what you want from your 6. Then, look at Pocock, Savea, Hooper and Curry. These guys often look to get over the ball and probably the most bloodied by the end of the game for their troubles.

Kolisi likes to hang out in the wide channels and prefers to stand next to a prop in defence which leads to his dominant tackle stats look good.

Also watch Louw when he came on. One of the AB try was when they simply ran over Kolisi to score where Louw took on 2 or 3 players very low, put his body on the line and prevented a try.

No thank you, Kolis can play Super Rugby, but not my pick for the bok s

Was that not Louw who knocked a ball on a few meters out that kept the AB's on attack?   Heavens above - the man is a farce as a loosie,

Rather have Kriel or one of the Stormers guys as a 6 rather than Kolisi.

Indeed Flash... political interference has denied us the pleasure of some very talented sportsmen through the years ... and it's no different today.

It's just a pity that back in the day we still came up with dominating sports teams, which is no longer the case.

What I'd give to have had Kolisi's one and only meeting with Rassie at the V & A Waterfront ... if only ... lol!!

As the non-player Du Preez was absent for 14 months from playing any rugby and Pienaar and Paige was according to the stone age  donkey better than Reinach.

Was Reinach regarded as flawed because Myer wanted himn to play a style of rugby he was not suited for.    Reinach at the time was at times a try scorer in tests - was Pienaar and Paige the same?

How deeply flawed a player was he - when in England he became one of the best scrummies in the game?
