The Bulls are set to clash with Leinster in the pulsating 2026 United Rugby Championship (URC) final in Dublin this Friday. However, Leinster will be without their towering lock RG Snyman, who is currently sidelined due to a severe ACL injury sustained earlier this season.

During a heart-to-heart on Irish breakfast television, Snyman shared the challenges of facing his third ACL rehabilitation after the injury occurred in a match against Glasgow on March 21. "It’s very disappointing, and it’s the third time I have done it. It’s a familiar road for me that lies ahead but, within that, it’s also difficult because you know what you need to do to get back and the long road," Snyman expressed.

"Definitely it’s something you fall back onto, the people around you and they kind of support you and pick you up in times when it does get tough,"

The support system at Leinster has been pivotal for Snyman, especially given the team's current injury list, which has fostered a collective spirit among the players. This camaraderie has been crucial as they prepare for the high-stakes game against the Bulls, a match that not only repeats last year's final but also features a blend of personal and professional milestones for Snyman.

Having switched from Munster to Leinster in 2024 after being recruited by Jacques Nienaber, now tipped for a role with the Springboks, Snyman has found a nurturing environment in Leinster that rivals an international setup. "It is definitely a place where you become the best rugby player that you can be because of the people around you and the systems that are put in place to better yourself," he noted.

The final holds a special significance for Snyman, not just as a player but also on a personal front. "No, it’s Leinster all the way," he stated firmly about his allegiance, despite his roots with the Bulls, where he started his professional career and forged deep friendships. "It’s great now to see how the guys have kicked on and just coming up to the final this weekend, it’s actually special to see both of my teams in blue facing off in the final."

As Snyman looks forward to returning to play in the 2026/27 season, he is also preparing for another major life event – becoming a father in September. His time in Ireland, despite the unpredictable weather, has been enriching. He humorously recalled, "The week of summer we had a few weeks ago was very nice."

This Friday's URC final at Croke Park promises not only to be a showcase of top-tier rugby but also a poignant chapter in Snyman's ongoing journey in the sport. As the teams line up, it will be a moment of reflection and anticipation for fans and players alike.
