Just watched Rhodes play his usual good game for Sarries and cannot for the life of me think of a reason why he was never called up to represent SA.
Perhaps his name is not acceptable to the ANC!

Nope Arthur, some poorer white players were preferred above him too. It's more difficult for white cream to rise to the top, but he was too hasty to leave. Fat alberts was the whitey ahead of him.

I always liked Rhodes as a player - but as Draad said the Meyer mania was about useless  and Fat Willem Alberts with the result no decent loosie had a chance.  There were a number of those inclusive of Rhodes, Stander and Labuschagne to name but a few.

DbDraad I stand to be corrected but I read that Rhodes actually called a meeting with Meyer and asked him straight out if Meyer was considering him for a test berth.
Meyer is quoted as saying that he was not under consideration and that is when Rhodes announced that he was signing a contract with Sarries.
Rhodes played his heart out for the Sharks and was overlooked then the same happened to him at the Stormers he has performed admirably irrespective of which team he has represented in his career thus far and I for one think that the Springboks missed a golden opportunity by overlooking him.
Pity.

Sounds about right AJ, but it wasn't a quota thing IMO, but rat her short sighted coach thing.

 Was definitively a quota thing.
This goes by the name of quota rule by anticipation. The principle is simple and fits the SA demand for simple solutions.

In case a non white SA player emerges in 2060~2070 at the same position as this Rhodes player, the position must be locked out in the meantime.

According to the quota rule by anticipation, Rhodes could not have been selected until 2060.

This guy applied to play with EN.
If accepted (and it is a possibility since he plays for a club that sends a number of players to the selection, providing it with a backbone used to play together), EN will  stock up on talent to rough up the AB boys as their fans demand it.

This stomper Rhodes, the axer defector from NZ... Adding a biter would do the trick. EN can tap in the SA talent pool for that type.

Always rated him...got better and better and then finally left...a great flanker with a very exceptional work rate...his only fault was when young a bit of a hothead.

Went to Michaelhouse and would have given this great school another Springbok but he is just one of the many that left our shores because of fools in our rugby government.

Quota's had an influence, but wasn't the main reason. Alberts, PSDT anf Flo used up the white Q.
