Richie McCaw the best-selling author?

All Blacks captain Richie McCaw, who won the Kelvin Tremain Memorial award at the Steinlager Awards in Auckland last night, may be on the verge of having his recent biography become the best-selling ‘rugby book’ of all time.

McCaw, who played in 13 Tests this season, claimed his fourth honour as New Zealand Rugby’s Player of the Year, with the 2012 award joining his wins in 2003, 2006 and 2009.

The 31-year-old will take a sabbatical for the first half of 2012, and the rumour mill suggests that the All Blacks captain will spend an extended amount of time in the United States.

McCaw and novelist Greg McGee released the book ‘The Open Side’ via publisher Hachette earlier this year, and it is believed that the popular read has sold approximately 120,000 copies worldwide.

Kevin Chapman, head of publisher Hachette, told the NZ Herald that a real mark of the book’s success was the sales achieved in the United Kingdom, with over 20,000 copies sold in one of the more recognised reading markets in the world.

"We're just pleased for Richie that his book's so successful,” Chapman said.

"Everybody's interested in Richie. It's very hard to find a bad word said about him, and all of us who know Richie know he's a good guy who's an incredibly good sportsman.

"You put that together with a writer of particular skill and you end up with a great book about a great person."

Chapman believed that the best-selling rugby book in the world was the autobiography of former England captain Martin Johnson, which sold 70,000 copies.

All Black greats Jonah Lomu and Colin Meads had achieved significant numbers for their books, but Chapman, who had contacted others around the world for confirmation of the impromptu record, said that it looked like McCaw may have claimed yet another distinction.

"Unless there's something that's completely bamboozled us, we think we've got a pretty good idea (that The Openside is the best-selling rugby book)" he said.

I am truly in awe and inspired by his greatness! May we ALL raise our kids to be just like his greatness using him as a role model and a yard stick for achievement!

I think king dick is greater than Chuck Norris at this point!

Now why would one buy a book by mcheat has to be the questin. Well its always the same - folk want to know how he got away with it!. They buy the book hoping for some juicy scandal etc. They want an answer as to how he managed to cheat the refs etc.

I am sure he makes the appropriate representative fo rnz given his devious ways. Every nz famil ywill hav ea copy on their shelf and hence a rugby book record will undoubtledly b eset. The nz clamour will b eso loud that mcheat will probably get  a knighthood thereby immortalising his cheatinng legacy to the delight of the kiwis who fervently hope this leagacy will be continued by the bent read.

What is of great interest is in how the kiwis are honouring this guy for all they are worth. Anyone with half  a rugby brain knows ou mcaaaw has been pretty medicore this year. But no trumpet the kiwi bird brains  he is the greatest ever (much like our nonsense about wee matfield 107 kg). Well where was mccheat in Dunedin or at Twicks  -nowhere. Put in a ghostlike performance - although of course saSUE will always produce stats proving otheriwse.

But notice this one. BL had  a shocker against SA in the WC - perhaps the worst ref display ever (All part of the kiwi WC master plan). How did nz try and counter the anger and disgust expressed around the world. Well they honoured BL by making him their ref of the year. In the same way they believe by honouring ou mcaaaaw excessively they will drown out those who call him mcheat. Bwahahahahahhahahahaha these nz bird brains are so obvious in their tactics!!! Its like taking candy from a baby!

Beeno giving deep insight into the very devious kiwi methodology. Kiwis should be banned from rugby along with the samoans until they clean up their act.

The mystery is how a guy like mcheat managed to pull it off!! (Okay he is called mccheat but he was never chucked out the game as he should have been). I think I will have to buy the book myself an dstudy it for clues! Hahahahahaahhahahahahahaha but leave it in a corner of the garage les tmy house gets contaminated! Hahhaahahahhahaha. Think of it a guy called mcheat is so honoured by nz - its just like the BL debacle.

These oaks have no sense of what is right at all.
