Richie Mccaw Clean out Tackle injures Louw

 To me it looked like a penalty. This is an area that is getting totally out of hand. We see players literally being tackled out of  the ruck. There are so many rules pertaining to perfectly harmless higher tackles...but there is no more dangerous situation in rugby than players with their heads down over the ball being hit a pace.

 This issue was discussed on Boots&All on Thursday and it was clear that Louw was not contesting the ball at all - he was behind the brealkdown and was when hit not actually in proceess of recovering the ball.   The general opinion was that he shoulder-charged Louw to prevent a possible tackle ball recovery which happened quite frequently in the game.
In essence it was not a fair attempt to take out a compeitior for the ball and should have at least be a penalty - or possibly a yellow card.    That was the opinion of both Malltett and Bobby Skinstad.
 As Mozart said - this was damngerous play and I think that mcCaw is fully to blame for the incident of unlawful and dangerous play.   

If many ruck clearouts were analyzed I expect we would see lots of this stuff. When it comes down to it, South Africa are a country that gets penalized for foul play than what New Zealand does. If that was one of our players..........................

 Now then ,Rutchie may push the rules boundaries a bit [ may ] but he's never been noted for foul play .Nit picking .

 It was a fair cleanout and unfortunate that Louw got injured.

 Skinstaad "were not winging about it, were not winging about it but if it had have been one of our players". Sounds awfully like winging to me. If you don't want to get cleaned out don't stand up over the ball. Louw was in the act of leaning over to go for the ball, of course he is going to get cleaned out. If that is going to be a penalty we may have to start playing touch. Seriously take a teaspoon of cement and harden up.

Nit picking for sure . I will watch it again but if you looked at any game you would see clean outs like this. Marginal . The "holier than thou" skinstat the guy makes me sick, cheap speaking to the home crowd is the only reason he is on the air.

Hmm, a shoulder to the neck with 100kg of momentum behind it. Yes Hakwa, Louw has to be soft, that's the only explanation.

 Pakie evidence is something not of much interest here. But of course even pap mcaaaw can do damage in a situation like this. At a minimum a penalty. Of course we all know tha from this injury and to one other I am told (Who nwas it) the wee abs went on to score the winning try against 13 men.
One of the favourite illegal plays by the abs is to take players out around the ruck. I am left amazed because this is so often done right in fro nt of the ref. Take defenders out like this and it helps the wee abs to score illegal tries.
Now Meyer needs to be more like hansen who bleated about the Boks slowing the game down. He needs to speak out aginast this and SARFU needs t otake up the issue. SARFU actually needs to really be on the ball here and pick up the varies illegalities and ask refs to watch out for them. if they dont then speak up again. Action to rectify matters will eventually come forth

 Funny how Skinstadt said he didn't want to be seen to be whinging and then proceeded to whinge about it!For a start there's no head on version that I could see and Bobby even admitted that St Richie had his arms around Louw so it's definitely not clear there was any shoulder charge at all!Just an excuse to gloss over another Bok loss to the great ABs.....

Actually it's a clear shoulder charge if you view the right frame. That blue circle shows the position of McCaw's left arm at impact. That arm is not going around Louw, it's making way for the shoulder.

 

 Look - I do not want to moan or whinge about this case - I think that what happened here is not really acceptable, but it is what is happening on the rugby scene.  Because it is involving McCaw is not necessarily an issue - what is an issue is that the practise of shoulder-charging is dangerous and unacceptable and should be stamped out.   
Whether it is SA players or players from any country being involved - does not kmake a difference - the practice should be eliminated from rugby.

If you see the whole play you can see how McCaw hitted wuth his arm. His arm made the whole movement from being down (as the last Pakie's picture shows) untill being completely over his shoulder.

If you continued putting frames you would see how after the hit McCaw's arm is over his shoulder what means that he made the whole correct movement for hitting with his arm, he accompanys the hit with his arm.
That's a perfectly legal charge.

And yes, mike, the shoulder charge should be eliminated from rugby but this is not the case
