RIP Tinus Linee . . .

Hard-tackling WP centre Tinus Linee has passed away after a long struggle with Motor Neuron Disease, the same disease that Joost van der Westhuizen is suffering from.

Linee played over 100 games for WP as well as a few games for the Springbok dirt-trackers between 1993 and 1994.

Commiserations to his family.  

I know this is probably just an assumption, but am I the only one who has noticed that there seems to be a link between rugby and motor neuron disease? If the disease is as rare as they say it is, then it is quite bizarre that a relatively large number of well known South African rugby players have fallen victim to it? I have not heard of another well known South African sports person suffering from the disease. It could just be my own ignorance, but it looks like a trend to me. 
Anyway, RIP Mr Linee. 

Bluebok I have wondered about the same thin, I may be wrong but all of th ese players played in the late nineties, what is the common denominator? 

 There has been much talk about a herbicide used. 
The Italians used something similar and many of their sportsmen have also succumbed to the same subtype of MND, ALS, as all these guys. 
I have seen quite a bit about it.

Very sad indeed.

Joost has been an absolute hero with regards to surviving against all odds.
I pray a lot for him in the hope that the J9 foundation and his will to fight for life and his positivity lead to some sort of miracle cure.

Can you imagine Joost being healthy again. It would be absolutely incredible.
Gosh I'm almost in tears.

Does anyone know how Andre Venter is doing? Ive tried scrounging around the web but couldnt find any recent updates on his health.

 Watched an interview taken back from 2011 of Joost, you can just about tell the disease had begun to affect his speech. Crazy difference in hearing his voice then and his body as well. Such a relentless and evil disease.

Chippo, the last I heard was sometime earlier in the year when he was interviewed on Supersport, he was in a wheelchair but stable.  It may have been last year though, I am not sure.

Well, ALS has a span of 2-5 yrs, so Joost is within the parameters of that. A terrible disease and so very, very sad.
