So news came through that Wiese failed his hia and will not play on Saturday. Roos has been with team and missed on the A game, yet, Kwagga will now start with Deon Fourie being promoted to the bench.

Perfect opportunity to give Roos a run for the next 3 test matches.

The only problem, if Roos out perform Wiese, it would be very hard to omit Roos, so next best plan is not to select him at all

The reason is really very simple.

The ANC mandate as to how many "Brothers" must be in the squad and then the management select family and finally we get the players who earned selection on merit.

Thus the poor performances on the field.

Don't forget marvelous Marvin, ready to bust the game wide open when he comes on, for the French.

We're going to be back peddling the entire game.

All of this Stupidity is Rasper,s exit plan....come on are they serious??? Fourie  might be playing well, but not a long term bet because of his age.....Roos does not fit into R&N,s structure  for whatever reason.....favouritism is @ hand here....there is no ways that Fourie out performed Roos in the URC...not a good path is mapped out for the Boks.

I don't know if Fourie is the better bet or not, but I can say neither one is going to improve the Boks by any significant measure.

Deon Fourie is damn good, but his days are at an end...Roos is the future and a better 8 than anyone else in the squad.

With Mostert doing lock duty we don’t have one loosie playing to the ball….Kolisi is most energetic when singing the anthem, Dud Toit is convinced he is a wing and Kwagga also prefers the loose stuff, although at least he tries.

Remember the good old days of Schalk, Juan and Vermeulen ( our only WC loosie of the last 5 years).

Roos is a promising combination of pace and power but we need to see him in the test arena. This was an opportunity.

It’s bad enough Roos is not starting but to think he can’t even make the bench Instead we have a 36 year old hooker on the bench I’d take Kolisi, PSDT and Roos over Schalk, Juan and Vermeulen anyday

Well, we also have a 36 year old 8 in Vermeulen who's spot already have been booked for next year.

Then, we have hard as nails Coetzee who can play all backrow positions eating ramen in the land of the rising sun when he should be in the squad.

I think Rassie is just bringing in the Stormers connection or Freestate.

I have to agree on Kolissi, always looks at the ruck, then shift a few players along. makes the odd tackle, only goes for the ball of the tackler puts it on a plate for him

Has a few runs on the wing and the od run and smash. That's about it.

Very light pack against a very heavy and physical French pack

Saf You can’t be serious about taking anyone over schalk? He had the highest work rate of any of our loose forwards over the last decade or so. Maybe PSDT over Juan… both are / were incredible players. I’d probably also have Vermeulen in top form over Roos too. Anyway… this is just a debate. No wrong or right answers I guess. No clue how Fourie got the nod ahead of Roos though.

Schalk and Juan were the last of our game-to-game elite loose forwards. Add in Big Joe. Our last truly elite, all-time great eightman, though Rossouw was exceptional when he played 8. Who could forget the way he carried the entire English midfield over the 22 for a try? Those were hard men, and we literally don't make them like we used to. I don't think we'll see another Schalk again. I remember one test against New Zealand where he made the first tackle, then he was up and somehow made the the second tackle, then the third. Our boys... not quite the same. Mostert is the closest the that kind of workrate and effort. Some guys, like Steph, have heart, but they just can't put it together.

I have to agree on Schalc Burger, saw him as a 20 year old play for the stormers in a warm game at Newlands. I already knew most of the players but never heard of him.  He just appeared everywhere. Very noticeable blond hair. But he was incredible.

Also, don’t forget the Venters. AJ and Andre. Andre especially, probably didn’t have the ball skills when it comes to passing but he was big, lean, fast and very mobile. AJ was more of a dirty player but very effective when it came to hard rugby.

Now we have the ballerinas in Kwagga and Kolisi. Very mobile and fast. Kwagga is the only one that really get stuck in, but a lightweight.

Why would you not pick Roos?

Roos reminds me of a Skinstad from what I have seen - Skinstad was grossly overrated and his production at test level was very poor. I'm just not convinced he has the right stuff for test level. He wasn't very good against Wales. Granted that is one game, and even Thor was poor in his 2012 tests, but our players very seldom grow into great players. Maybe a change in coaching for the Boks can be to his benefit. It's hard to say right now. A lot of players are in the 'maybe' bracket.
