Did the Wales beat the Boks....no they were thrashed

Was our scrum awful. No it was great, and Steenkamp was the dominating scrummager. TOW recipient.

Bakies and Victor off the pace...nope

Morne a liability....nope he controlled the game, passed and kicked brilliantly

Goosen over his frailty....nope, another departure from the battle.

Alberts too slow and lazy....nope the power player in the tight/loose

I hope you guys feel able to give the Boks a little more support in future.

Moz, in all  fairness, you have take a wee bit of that pie yourself. Granted, you did not write the guy off, but you did have your doubts about Serfontein....

I'm still not writing him off Vlag, but he beat one tackle in 9 runs and missed a quarter of his tackles. For that365 gave him a "nine" and Roberts who made all of his 13 tackles got a "four". Roberts also beat 4 defenders....go figure.
Still it was a solid enough performance with a great cover tackle. I'd wait a bit though before deciding this one.

Mozart as per normal you had it all wrong.  Your whining about Oosthuixen, De Jager  and Serfontein was all wrong and so was your glorifying of the geriatrics.
Locks

Lets start with the lock situation and look at the stats of the three locks involved:-
Botha0/000/0/4300010/01/000/0
Matfield0/000/3/612000011/28/000/0
de Jager0/000/0/73000011/10/100/0
Botha did very little when he played in the first half.  The first ball he handled he lost possession and that preceded the first drop kick of Biggar. He made no tackles during all the time he was on the field of play and took only one line-out.
Matfield made 11 tackles and missed 2 in the 80 minutes  - De Jager made 11 tackles and missed 1 in 40 minutes he played.   When he tackled it was very strong tackles forcing the tackled player back and he was hard to bring down.
With Etzebeth coming back and Du Toit fir we would not need any of the geriatrics at lock.  Etzebeth. Du Toit, De Jager and Flippie are good enough to provide for  a better lock combination than the elderly 2 can at this stage.
By the way - you constant attacks on De jager - when Saffeex abnd I pointed out that he is Springbok material has been so far off the mark - it is unbelievable.
The Props
The scrumming was more solid than expected - even though there was a slow retreat in the case of most scrums in the first half and with Jannie only fave away two penalties.    In the second half there was a serious improvement in scrumming when Beat, Oosthuizen and De Jager was on as part of the tight 5.
I would say that they can do without Jannie and Steenkamp - we had better players available to take over from them.
The Loosies
Cermeulen and Louw had very good games.  The false tune was Alberts - who stood around behind mauls and the Welsh scrummie ran past him like eh was not there before the try-saving tackle by Serfontein.   Time to move on in this case as well.
Serfontein
Your scandalous attacks on Serfontein are still fresh in the mind of members.  Your name-giving him a nickname and other rubbish has been dealt with by Serfontein in the clearest manner imaginable.  What was very clear is that Steyn was nos not missed at all.
The way forward
There are still some deficiencies in the team - especially those  dealt with above.  I think that the problem is we have only one play maker in the backline - Le Roux.  Without him one wonders whether the four tries he was involved in would have been scored.
Pietersen was solid - but he is not the answer at 13.  He should have tackled North on the way to the try line - but missed him completely.   The jury is out on the 13 position - I am sure that De Allende would be the answer in that position.
Are you going to apologize about all the crap you wrote about De Jager and Serfontein on this site?

"Botha did very little when he played in the first half.  The first ball he handled he lost possession"

Bullshit. Watch again at 1:47. He had no support at all. He was all on his own with nobody binding to to form a ruck or take the ball. He had two  choices. Either let go of the ball or hang on and concede a penalty. He, correctly, chose the first one. The tackle stats are also not accurate.

"With Etzebeth coming back and Du Toit fir we would not need any of the geriatrics at lock."

Well that is the issue at this stage. The youngsters are crocked and the geriatrics are up and running. Even, for  some of them at the end of a European season and two finals  in a row.

"The Props"

No mention of Steenkamp's scrummaging? He scrummed Adam Jones, one of the better props in world rugby, into the ground, and did the same to his opponent. Without giving away a penalty either.

"The false tune was Alberts"

SOS. Same Old (boring) (bull)Shit.

No slating of Morne Steyn?

What about the other "geriatrics"?

More importantly, what about this one:

What happened ou Maaikie? Could you explain to us how you got it so wrong? Clearly, you were of  the opinion, on 12 June, that the Walsh side was by far superior to the Springboks, so do not even try and claim that this was  no real test like your mate Safesex tried t o do.

Is that any different from you claiming Gurthro, Morne, Victor, Bakkies, etc would all fail.

Thanks - I have updated the Wales team in the top of the thread.
I am afraid we are dead - looking at the Wales Tight 5.  Other than Bismarck - they are all better than our 4 monkeys.   And they have a top backline - and Shingler is miles better than Lazybones Alberts.

No...we are weak in the centres and in the front row. I'd like to see one younger lock splitting with either Victor or Bakkies. And on the bench I wouldn't have Schalk Brits. This is a weaker team than started against France. But mostly because of injuries. Bring back Jean, bring back Frans, perhaps introduce de Allende, bring back Etzebeth and Strauss....all things HM would have done and the team would be stronger.

Go back a few months and you will find a 100% more negative things you said about De Jager.     Problem is that De Jager proved comprehensively that he is a far better lock at this stage than Botha - but you are too stupid to realize that.
Why should a younger lock "split" with Botha and Matfield when the younger locks are ebtter than those two?

Why don't you answer a simple question - or are you too stupid to answer?   Why should the younger locks split with the geriatrics - when they are better than Matfield and Botha? .

Mike you are correct about Loodt for sure. You can add in Willemse as another great young lock.Adam jones apareentlywas poor for Wales this season and will probably be dropped.Guthro was certainly a very good loosehead before leaving SA. If he palys off the bench most times then I will still be wondering if he is the deal. The RC will tell.Mz I did tell you Swrfonteing would not let us down. I hope you willbe adjusting you negative views on him and Loodt. Also that youwill begin to see that Loodt and Etzebth are the answer. Surely you now realise we are selling oursleves short with we matfiled 106 kg.Meyer needs to be bolder. Play the great youngsters with insurance on the bench supplied by older palyers. He needs to find out who can make the step up. Injury gave Jan a starting test as it did Loodt.
How about the likes of Jaque Du Plessis at 7. Reinach/Faf at scrummie. M eyer must get these guys into the frame as we move ahead.

Bakkies did nothing of note, Lood showed just what we are missing with Etzebeth out.

Morne did nothing of note, is and always will be a crap player

Alberts was the least effective of the loosies

The stars of the side were the youngsters Willie, Serfontein and Lood when he came on.

Vermeulen and Louw were good

JP is doing nothing at 13

Saffex
It is clear that Morne was told to pass and not kick the ball on Saturday - so he passed the ball most of the time.  He is not a gamebreaker - like Pollard was in the game of the Juniors.
Morne never attacks the gain line and despite his high rating - his defense was putrid on Saturday - missing 40% of attenmpted tackles.   The size of the victory was determined by Le Roux - not by Steyn who played as a link player only.
Despite all the hype - Steyn was in the context of the game very, very average.   He did not fold under pressure - but the negative signs are all there that he will - like happened in the Ellis Park test last year .

The Boks were too strong for the Welsh.

Sadly they did not bring the test I had hoped they would.

For an out of shape old man like Gurthro to dominate like he did says much for the Welsh scrum. The Boks embarrassed them. I was very surprised by this.

The Welsh clearly need to learn how to tackle. They were awful in this department.

Lood was amazing. Far better than the old Bakkies. I think Bakkies most probably wore himself out with that incredible 30m dash last weekend.

Willie was amazing and I really enjoyed watching Serfontein get a decent run for a change.

I reckon that any Super Rugby franchise woulda beaten the Welsh this weekend ... not wanting to take anything away from the Boks but a stiffer challenge is needed to see how the aged players cope.

We already saw that the older Bakkies couldn't compare to Lood.

Apart from Morne's kicking, he was average at best.

Pollard was brilliant and I hope he gets his call up for the RC.

Yep Loodt was very g ood and he and Etzebth are the lock pairing. Pollard looks like he is going to be a Bok great.
Frankly Meyer, barring injuries will have tremendous players to draw on.
I predicted this early last year when writing my writing on the wall bit re the wee abs.
Barring injuries and refs Boks to win WC next year.
I also recall folk laughing about the comment barring Refs. No more is there any laughter. Injuries are a curse as well and something is wrong here and has quite a lot to do with player management.

England looked good. I'm sure they must be contenders for the title next year.

I do not have the same confidence you do Beeno regarding the elderly Boks side. I have no confidence in Meyer.

We'll see how the boys do in the upcoming RC.
