RG is a 6'8 tall and weighs just 120 KG.
Would it be worth playing him at 5, or Eztebeth at 5 to get them both on the field? They both have the jumping skills for number 5.
A power pack:
1. Beast/ Kitshoff2. Marx / Bongi3.  Nyayni / TDutoit/ Coenie/(after recovery)4. Eztebeth5. RJ Snyman/Stephanie6. Kolisi/ Need a backup- ideally a fetcher7. Stephanie/ a Donkey twin8. Vermeulen (revitalised Thor)/ Need a backup
With Marx and Vermuelen on the pitch, lots of turnovers will be won.

That pack's looking formidable ..... add Roelof Smit, backup 6, Whitely 8.

Who is going to call the line-out  throw-ins with 2 4's (Etzebeth and Snyman) in the line-up?   I think Snyman is essentially a 4 - not a 5.

I think the issue about ball protection and recovery by a 6 is problematic at the best of times and have been watching Smit for a while now,  He may be an answer - but he is to my mind a very average loosie - not the ideal 6.

Some more nonsense from the man who can't see properly.

Weedy Lood and his 10 inch arms is no doubt the man he wants included ... who by the way was also a 4 lock.

I am delighted to see Snyman play so well. Mozart called it a while back and I must say I had my doubts, but Snyman had a cracker and deserves to keep the 4 jersey ... or at least be part of the starting locks.

Looks like the best Pieter Steff Du Toit can do is warm the bench ... and even that may be a bridge too far.

Eben and Snyman ... our lock pair ... I love it.

Gooooooooo Rudy.

Shark .. don't forget Chris Cloete or even my main man Jaco Kriel for the 6 jumper. Sadly that won't ever happen under Rassie. Kolisi is his man and we have no choice but to live with it. Besides that ... Roelof Smit is injury prone and cannot be depended upon because of it.

Vermeulen was very impressive. Can't see Whiteley dislodging him easily.

So CC

When  I said elsewhere that Etzebeth must show he deservers selection ahead of Snyman nobody reacted.    Now suddenly I do not see it right.

But calling line-outs is important and neither Snyman nor Etzebeth has done that in the past.   In the  case of the Bulls it was done by De Jager and in the case of te Springboks by either Mostert or Du Toit.

The suggestion about Etzebeth and Snyman being the lock pair is really stupid.   It is the same as trying to play a loose-head prop at tight-head.   There is a difference between the two positions almost on the same level as the prop situation.

So keep up the ignorance stooge - it becomes you 100%    .

... and yet ... you favour playing Tank Du Toit at 3. Who's the stooge here, Tokkie?

Eben doesn't have to fight for his position in the Bok team. He is our best lock and anyone who excludes him is an idiot.

Ezetebeth has experience playing in the number 5 position. He has a voice and captaincy experience - so I expect he will be able to make the calls. Or at the very least allow the hooker to make the calls

When did Etzebeth play at number 5?   Hs he ecver called thow-ins?  Never

It is not the voice only - it is the strategy to be employed at line-outs.   For instance Mostert realized that he was ineffective as a jumper against stronger opposition - so n Saturday  he called all line-outs - bar 1 - to go to Snyman and Vermeulen.   That can be neutralized easily.

In modern competitive rugby the throw-ins must be part of a strategy to win line-outs and to use it as a base for attacks.  That is engineered by the line-out callers.    To just have two or even three line-out jumpers available does not work anymore.

You heard it here first...

The best lineout jumper in SR with the most steals is afraid of England.

"While Mostert plays like a No. 4 lock in open play, his lineout jumping has also caught the eye, especially in the semi-final against the Hurricanes where he stole two crucial balls when the New Zealand side were on the attack deep in the Lions' 22.

Although Mostert is relatively short for a South African second rower, he leads the competition in lineout steals. He is also very secure on his own ball and runs the Lions' lineout with an iron fist."

Revolutionary! The throw-ins are actually to form part of the line-out strategy? The line-out is to be used as a base for attack?

Mike, your talents are wasted on this board. You need to be coaching. You will take the game into a new dimension with these radical new theories on how the game should be played.

Pakie

If you have no rugby comments - please do not descend  to the level of the despic able Mozart.

I was in fact reminding members of what coaches like White and Meyer spoke about and was in the media at the time.   Meyer fouled up though - he gave that reason for bringing back Matfield as a number 5 lock - purely based on the calling of line-outs.   Unfortunately Matfield was atrocious in test line-outs and I mentioned at least five cases where he flopped when calling line-outs telling the thrower he was to be the target

He was not atrocious in line out calls - when he called balls to go to him he fouled up badly on numerous occasions.      Get realistic please.

RG Snyman opens up on Bok debut

Snyman's lineout steal in the dying stages of the match came at a time when England were seeking a winning try, while he also set up fellow-debutant Aphiwe Dyantyi for a try.

"It's a big honour and a privilege to play for the Springboks. It's something you dream about growing up. Running out at Ellis Park is a special moment, seeing all those people there to support you. It was a nice match to play," Snyman said on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old credited Duane Vermeulen for calming the team down with a talk under the posts when the Boks had slipped to 24-3.

"The first 20 minutes, I felt like it was never going to end," he said of his debut.

"Playing with guys that have walked the road in a Bok jersey before and have a lot of experience was nice, especially being down after 20 minutes and Duane just having a chat to us.

"You can see that maybe he's been in a situation like that before and he instilled a bit of calmness into the guys."

Snyman has been in superb form for the Bulls in 2018 and he said he was thriving under the mentorship of John Mitchell.

"Mitch doesn't really put a lot of pressure on us," said Snyman.

"He just wants us to have fun on the field and he understands what makes every player good. He just tries to focus on that and I think that's the difference."

There are certain players that just cannot make the step up to test rugby .. and then there are those who lift there game to a totally different level than what we're used to .

Ma'a Nonu was one of those. He was a good player but seem to be transformed into something extra ordinary in test matches.

I think that Snyman could be another. I hope so any way.

We are all hungry for a hero to step up to the mark.
