Rugby 365 says Mostert is perfect for Bok flank
I was the first to identify Mostert as an international number 7.
He is more mobile and athletic than Steph Dutoit. His contribution at the ruck is significant. Playing Steph at 5, with Mostert at 7 is a more obvious choice.
I cannot see how Mostert can be selected based on the game on Saturday when he was statistically not all that good.. He needs to improve in some respects and show whether he really qualify for selection.
Mozart is probably right in that regard - be patient and see what happens performance-wise.
Mostert looks much quicker of the mark than the lumbering we saw against England when Ben Care played the fool with him.
Maybe the truth has hit home that Mostert at 105 kgs is too light to be a lock and a move to 7 may be to the advantage of his playing career. However, he will face strong opposition at 7 as well and t o state that he will be a shoo-in is a joke at best.
I do not believe that 7 should be a bruiser unless the player has sufficient pace and ball sense and skills to compete on the ground and in linking play involving both forwards and backs, That is why a player like Juan Smith was a success and Alberts a serious failure.
I would rather prefer a player like Wiese at 7, He is only 20 years old - but he is a 116 kgs player - a real bruiser with the abilities mentioned by me as to ball skills and sense player. His hero is in fact Juan Smith and he is trying to emulate him. Smith had one major deficiency - he too frequently missed catches and knocked on balls - from what I have seen of Wiese he is already better in that regard. That is also where he beats the Du Preez twins - he is also speedier than them.
Watch out for that youngster - a real mean machine.
Cois must be laughing into his sleeve.
He only used Mostert at lock because he had to.
As soon as the loosie issues are sorted out he'll return to lock.
In the mean time we'll have articles like this pop up.

I believe sustained performance is the only criteria for selection and Wiese has a lot to prove in that regard. So you are 100% correct in this case.
Also, you are right about the 23 man team. All 23 are part of one rugby plan.
First as always lets get the facts right. Mostert is NOT 105 Kg. Wikileaks has him at 112 and ESP scrum 11.8 kg. Please don't confuse him with the very pap Victor Matfiled. Mostert gets stuck n. No leaning on the sides of rucks pretending to play or moonlighting in the backline etc.
Mostert's huge work rate and big heart means he must be taken seriously as a possible number 7. As with all the Lions forward he has good skills and plays 80 minutes. Excellent lineout option at the back. Great defender and nice and mobile. I am not though convinced he is a better athlete than Du Toit.
Mostert was played on the flank to bulk up the Lions forwards. When playing a strong pack the lions will most likely play Mostert on the flank if they have any sense..
I thought Teuns Stofberg was about the perfect number of years ago.
I posted the article re Mostert shining. Ou maaaike of course had no idea Mostert had shone. Bwahahahahhahahaahahahahaha
Beeno you are dumber, dumber and dumbest all in one. The fact is that Mostert was not a high work rate player on Saturday. He was in fact a medium to low impact player. That was clearly a case of total misrepresentation of facts as is normal with you.
You are indeed a shining example of rugby disknowledge so what else is new? Wake up to reality dumbo - and do a proper investigation before you make sweeping statements. There are ample sources you can consult before writing factual contributions before you write your usual crap.
I would be careful in this case - even Mozart has doubts about the performance of Mostert - so what will he say about your constant stupidity?
By the way Beeno remember the claim was at the tie that Matfield weighed 112 kgs and te fact was he weighed 105 kgs. Mostert always weighed 105/106 kgs and now suddenly he weighs 112 kgs. Another Matfield blinder at work here?
@ Beeno
What happens when Kwagga and Kriel are both fit? They both should start where ever possible, right? What then of Mostert.
Whitely, Kwagga and Kriel as loosies. Mostert always starts at lock and Orie and the Porra fight for the other sport.
I dont think the Lions will play Kwagga in midfield despite our expert advice haha.
There are no issues there. Its Dreyer i'm concerned about. And Jacobie Adrianse.
If they sort out the Dreyer issue and Combrink also returns then that team will be on fire again.
Mostert has earned his starting spot for the Boks by being the most solid lock performer in SR for two years running. Didn't he have the best lineout stats last year...while also having a higher tackle count than any other lock and as well as most loosies ?
Far as i'm concerned Eben and co need to battle it out for the other spot.
The bench is supposed to be used as a weapon ... not to hide unwanted quotas on. We haven't had a decent bench in at least a decade.
Imagine no Bongi's or Trevors ... no Beasts or Dreyers ... no Paige's or Oupas ... no tokens of any sort.
Imagine fielding our very best ... with a bench of class acts waiting impatiently to prove to the coach that they should actually be starting. Can any of you even remember when last we had something like that?
Danie Roussow was a superb rugby player. I would get so pissed off when Bakkies was brought straight back into the starting 15 after an injury. He was never forced to work for his jersey. What I'd give to have a Danie today.
Rassie has told all and sundry that he'll be selecting his match 23 on race. I'm afraid we'll never see our best 23 players in a test match again. At best we'll be fielding a team at 50 - 60% strong with a bench coming in around 30%.
Once again the uninvited ... the unwanted ... gatecrash our party, and spoil it for all.
CC
I am with you in this case - but Beeno will obviously try and find some screen to protect Rassie. He will not last a year if the teams he select is not a winning team and Rassie can duck and dive as much as he likes - if the team fails he will be fired for non-performance sooner than the two years it took Coetzee to be fired,. .
Ou maaaaike my stand on merit selections has been consistent from the very beginning. No need to lie ou maaaaike! Dense denise is calling this twit Dumb Mike. Has ou dense denise struck gold for once. Bwahahahahahahahahha. Dumb Mike the Village idiot.
Dumb Mike I named my sources re Mostert's weight. Where are yours. I can honestly say have never seen him given as below 108kg.
I am certain Rassie would love to select on merit alone. He decided he would give it a go rather than st on the sidelines. Its up to the South African Rugby public to take up the fight. To bla me the coach for quotas shows how daft some oaks are!
Plum playing a loose tro of Kwagga, Kriel and Whitely and a relatively light lock like Mostert 110 kgs or so means the Lions will get bullied by a really powerful pack.
Hey stooge - why did you not deal with your airy-fairy comments on the performance of Mostert .when brought to your attention - broccoli befudged brain deficient one?

Same goes for his back line quota coach. If this welfare case can't get it right then Rassie should take the rap for it. Obviously!! It's not this incompetent fools fault that he doesn't know anything about coaching. It's Rassie's fault for "selecting" him.
We are most certainly not going to blame others for Rassie's short comings.
Rassie should not have accepted their racist terms.
The Boks must be ranked number 1 in the world after winning next year's WC. Nothing else will do.
@ Beeno
I disagree. Have you ever seen Kwagga or Kriel bullied in a one on one?
I havent.
I have seen Eben, PSDT and Lomp all being tackled backwards and have the ball stolen from them on multiple occasions. They all have worse defensive records than Kriel and Kwagga too. Co-incidence?
At that size the extra 10Kgs is 90% fat mate. It's not a 10% boost in muscle/power. That extra weight does slow you down a lot though.
Also remember that the Lions game plan is around pace. Fast recycling and catching oppo out of position.
Yeah ... what he said.
For the Boks we have a good few options depending on how Rassie is gonna wanna play. How does one exclude Kriel and Kwagga from the squad though? Both are incredible players who you'd want on the field for as long as possible instead of using them off the bench in an impact role.
I have a feeling he's gonna go balls to the wall Lions and try build on that. That is if one reads into the Whitely contract.
At this point it's about the only option if he's thinking synergy come the WC.
Problem is that ACs nutcase selections and game plan left him nothing to work with aside from maybe some of the guys knowing each other a bit better.
If the Lions season goes anything similar to the last two then we'll probably see around seven of them starting against England. Eight if you count Faf :)
Maybe
Start: Kitshoff, Louw, Marx, Eben, Mostert, Kriel, Whitely, DDP
Bench: Duane, PSDT, Beast, JVRooyen, Akker/Bismark, Kwagga (centre/loosie).
That seems a reasonably balanced pack with enough pace and grunt. No?
plum
I am not sure of your pack - all I think will happen to my mind is that either Kriel of Smith will be the number 6 (opensider) flank. I think that the 7 position is wide open, but what is likely is that Rassie will go for De Jager at lock and Du Toit at 7.
But it is early days and a number of players can still make the grade. It all depends on performance of players during the present season. ,
