I was hopping mad to see that Meyer persisted with his squad for Argentina and added two foreign-based players to the Australasia leg of the Championship. We really have a problem here. One assume that due to injuries Kirchner and Rallepele has not gone to Europe yet - but I have a feeling they were not around in SA anymore.
With five players having to travel from Argentina directly to France - there is already a problem. There are to be a training programme for the squad tomorrow and Friday in Johannesburg. After a dismal performance in Argentina - training is absolutely essential- but the Johannesburg progamme will not produce the required results since the players really in need of further instruction is not available.
The French-based players are said to be in Brisbane only on Tuesday - so they will be out of training before Wednesday. That means Meyer is going into the Brisbane test with a totally under-prepared squad.
As per normal - Meyer picked players regardless of performances and capacity. His insistence on players like Kruger, Steenkamp, Vermaak and Kirchmer is unbelievable. There are better local-based players in SA - yet he has to pick them. Is it because of their ex-bulls contracts or what? I really am surprised he ddi not include De Jongh as well. And he is keeping Alberts - despite his zeroeffectiveness as a loosie - the top ball carrier who made no impression in that Department of the game - the bone-crushing tackler who has an absolutely useless tackling record.
With this squad in mind I am going to pick Meyer's team for the match in Brisbane:-
15 Zane Krichner
14 Bjorn Basson
13 JJ Engelbrecht
12 Jean de Villiers
10 Morne Steyn
9 Ruan Pienaar
8 Duane Vermeulen
7 Willem Alberts
6 Francois Louw
5 Juandre Kruger
4 Eben Etzebeth
3 Jannie Du Plessis
2 Adriaan Strauss
1 TYendai Mtawarira
Repacements : 16 Bismarck du Plessis, 17 Coenie Oosthuizen, 18 Gruthro Steenkamp, 19 Flip van der Merwe, 20 Siya Kolisis, 21 Jano Vermaak, 22 Jan Serfontein, 23 Pat Lambie
I still think Meyer will not play Le Roux - either in the team or from the bench. His preferred full back always was Kirchner and he is absolutely attached to Basson. So goodbye Le Roux.
Anyway - I can see a disaster coming and a very bad one at that. One thing I know is if the above team lost by less than 20 points against the Wallabies I would be as surprised as hell. And the loss at Eden Park will even be bigger.
So carry on Meyer and keep on digging -your own grave - it would soon be deep enough for usage.
