Rugby Championship Standings (Round 4)

New Zealand with 73 points difference. 

I would rather want to see the ratings of the various countries after yesterdays two upsets in the outcome of the two tests concerned,   When a lower rated team beats a higher level team the points are markedly bigger than the other way around - at least that is how I understand the issue,  

If similar outcomes as happened yesterday are recorded in the other two rounds to be played as from 29 September 2018 it could be even more devastating - especially for the Aussies.

They have to travel to SA and Argentina for their remaining two matches and will have an up-hill battle in both their remaining tests.    The AB's position will not be affected by another loss to the Springboks - but it could have a major impact on the SA standing.          

I'm also interested, but they won't be released until Monday. All I know for certain is that Australia drop to 7th for the first time. Thus they are labelled the worst ever Wallabies. 

Correct me if I'm wrong, there used to be a formula on the internet (maybe under the IRB) for calculating it and I remember doing it...it was spot on.

If the Springboks can beat Australia and repeat heir performance yesterday they will move up to no 3 on the log.   New Zealand will remain at 1 - but will be only marginally so.

Lets hope it does happen.   

We last beat New Zealand and Australia back to back in 2014. Since the turn of the century we've only done it five times: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2014. We rely heavily on home games. We've never achieved this feat in that time period without two home games. 

And the last away win against NZ was in 2008 - and since then zero times in all of Meyer's and  Coetzee's time as coaches.   

I think there are two issues that the resent scenario makes double home wins very unlikely.   The squad can at best be described as developmental nd the team performances this RC hs been inconsistent.

We have need for a more physical lock and  that reduce our Tight 5 performance.   I think as Beeno suggested Snyman would be an option - but team is really missing De Jager.   

As to the center situation I think the absence of De Allende would be a serious problem - there would be a major defensive problem and the fact is Esterhuizen seemingly is the only option - but he is slow, a questionable defender  and a crashballer.   I wonder how far Serfontein has gone in his return to play.   Hope he can rather be called up than Esterhuizen.              

Snyman provides everything we need. Our front row is sorted. Our loose trio are looking better. Halfbacks are sorted. Back three are sorted. We lost a dud centre. We are moving in the right direction. 

It's very likely that we will beat Australia. It won't be easy, but we very rarely have such opportunities to beat them. Then one big show down, our last game of the RC. At home. New Zealand will come out strong. Ironically, they traditionally take us apart more easily at away than at home. That's one of the worrying trends of this fixture. 

We have very little to go for insofar as past test performances are concerned - under Meyer the situation at home was pretty hopeless in that regard and the only win was in 2014 - when there were serious deficiencies in the team with for instance Matfield at lock and a few other problem cases as well.

In other home matches against the AB's both Meyer and Coetzee buggered up royally in team selection.   So we are in fact really onto something new with the totally new squad.

Dream on about Esterhuizen - his potential inclusion worries me badly,
