Rugby styles.....what worked?

I haven't seen the AB game....but England beat Oz with classical Bok rugby, defence, goal kicking and quick exploitation of turnover ball. Oz's phase play, most akin to what we think of as Lions'  rugby failed like a wave breaking on a sturdy rock. The Boks won, not with clever passing....but hard running at a tired defence.

What's the conclusion? You need a balanced game....kicking, running, offloading. Which facet is most important depends on the day and the opponent.

And you need defence. We may have beaten Ireland today but England showed a stout defence that will surely shape strategy in the RC as Oz and the other teams decipher what went wrong.

 How many times did the Boks kick compared to Ireland?Can't be asked to look for the stats but certainly looked like they kicked more, and not just to pepper Mvovo but also for territory.
Defence was poor again today. DeAllende needs to go lower or put his shoulder/body behind tackles. Just sticking your arm out doesn't even slow some one down at this level. When you can't trust your inside man to make his tackles the wing and 13 are gonna tend to defend out to in leaving space down the touch and potential overlaps.

 De Allende positions himself wrong on defence. The tackles he misses are almost always because he is off ballance. He tends to either overrun the tackle, or he's facing the wrong way. And that's because he either rush up too quick or stays back too long. He's timing is just bad and that won't be fixed easily. 

 There was a serious difference between the game t he Springboks played yesterday.  In the first half the Springboks played what most reasonable people regard as stampjar rugby - in the last 20 minutes of the second half they played comprehensive rugby,   Stampkar rugby is what they played as well last week.   Australia was just poor in both tests and their center combination is slow and stampkar players too.   No penetration in attack with a slow service as well.
