I was living in Durban and never saw a single match in the WC tournament that year.    For insatnce the day the semifinal  against the French  played at Kings Park was played  as trustee  of the Albert Luthuli Trust I had to attend a meeting when Mandela came to open the  newly built Albert Luthuli Center in  Groutville and could not even watch that match, 

It was a day when it rained so badly that the match took place that it nearly could not be played since the playing field was flooded  and the semifinal could nearly was not played - but Louis Luyt got a company to drain the pitch as  SA would not  be in the final two weeks later if the match did not take place,    Due to a red card in a round robin match by one of the greatest rugby idiot ever  if the match in Durban  was not played the French would have been in the final and not SA.   Afterwards a  Zulu told me that the forefathers blessed the day because Mandela's second name in Zulu means rain in English,      .             

However,   I obviously watched  the final on TV and about an  hour or so  after the  final whistle I left the flat where I lived on the corner of then West Street and the Marine Parade  and there were tens of thousands of mainly Black people celebrating the victory  in the Streets of Durban especially in the area where I lived -  near the sea and oppossit the street  from the then  Durban aquarium.

And I wonder whether the famous Suzie  also organized that celebration as well.

Yes I wonder why South Africa have not had another world cup.

I remember that French game. 

The French scored a try that was disallowed.

The rugby world has always been really pissed with that tournament.  

No  - the answer is simple.  The Technical Committee recomended  tha SA be the hiost country ad the 6 Natuions lot conspred to have the Grench hosting the WC - i ws in fact totaly unexpected and cme from collusion between France and Rngland nd the NH Countries thought by holding the WC in the NH s it would benefit heir teams against the SH teams.  

As fate would have it the conspirators got fucked by the finger of fate.
