What a competition...an individual game turned into a team...Europe 17.5 USA 10.5...Molinari, Rose, McIIroy and the boys...a course in Paris that no week-end hackers can play...water hazards, roughs and greens so intimidating that sc ares the shit out of unproffessionals and even them.

I must say I was impressed and enjoyed this event immensely...Francesco Molinari broke the record and there were some unbelievable shots.
It was so well organised...must be one of the best sporting events of the world.
I've never seen Tiger looking so depressed...actually there is a bit of pathos in losing but yes Europe team was rather like the AB's. Golf can be a great leveller of men. But in a sense who would mind the "hazards" if you earned what McIIlroy does in a week...it's more than my retirement fund.
I watched some of it with my mate...Barry Franklin. Incidentally Mozart will probably remember him. He was a SA champion way back in the sixties, he also won the German Open in those days. He is very old and frail today but a very interesting man to talk to. He and Hutchy (D ennis Hutchison) are big mates. Barry has played many times with Gary, even Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus ...he gave Ernie Els coaching lessons when Ernie was a young lad and knew the Els family very well.
He told me that pro's earned very little in those days and a lot of things they had to fund themselves...he told me Gary only started to make big money when he became a senior...he was well off but this was mainly due to his prudent business ability.
He also told about playing in Australia...about Hutchy and him having to travel from the west across this vast continent from Perth to Melbourne and Sydney by car and the adventure. No really big paydays then.
He also told me about Sean Connery irritating the players when he was playing in Scotland...he told me that Sean was a freebooter, always wanting free lessons and wanting to attach himself to a 4 ball or two ball with him and his colleagues despite the fact that he was famous and wealthy...players eventually got tired of his freebooting.
Looking at Barry today, is quite sad...he is very old and has barely enough...drives an old Toyota.
His pro days ended many years when he was involved in car crash on the Natal North Coast...I believe the driver in the other car died...he never speaks about it. I quite like Barry and feel for him...he is still entertaining though...he is an ideal companion to watch golf with.
Another PSG moment? As someone who never watches golf, who has never played golf, I don't understand the reference. Let me into your world!
