While he has yet to play a decent game for the Boks, he was a total disaster on Saturday.

If you watch the last play of the game -  the Boks are on the attack in the Lions 22, it was Elstadt who lost possession.
He ran straight into a Lion who stripped the ball out of his hands, and a knock-on was awarded - but playing advantage allowing the Lions to kick it out.
It was one dimensional and poor technique by going too high.

His bulk may impress some fans, but he clearly lacks the brains to be a test-level player.
Even one of the creatine twins would be a much better option.

Elstadt makes poor reads at test level. It all happens a little too fast for him. We have too many players of that ilk in the team. With Elstadt at 8, we'd have an entire loose trio of passive unthinking types.

A provincial-level player...

Vermuelen is the missing piece of the puzzle for the Boks, and their most important player on the pitch

Wrong Pollard is the most important player Elstadt should not be in the equation. Solid but nothing special

Vermeulen’ s absence was always going to underscore the incredible technical deficiencies of Dud and Kolisi. Just like Schalk sheltered wee Luke Watson from proper scrutiny.

Oh what crap - there is nothing subtle or technical about Vermeulen - he is pure brawn but in a good way. Schalk is those days was one dimensional and predictable. Became a complete player at Sarries

But he was Player of the Year….isn’t that the argument they always make about Dud Toit?

It’s exactly what PSDT is and he won that award thanks to his amazing contribution to the team. He is relentless - a fantastic player

Best blindside flanker in the game and if he was still playing lock it would be between him and RG Snyman as the best 5’s in the game He was a fantastic lock turned into a fantastic blindside and certainly one of the best players in the game

There is nothing Steph does particularly well. He can't read play very well, he is very reactive, being easily baited out of position. He is also reckless and repeats mistakes. He is passive, continually repeating the same ineffective act over and over. Physical? Not especially. Poor on the ground, ineffective counter rucker, average lineout option, painfully inadequate carrier. He doesn't make the team better with his presence, he makes their jobs harder. He causes unnecessary pressure. Against the All Blacks in a Wellington, 2018, one of his blown coverages resulted in a 30+ phase stand in our 22 where Mostert prevented two tries. He has often left Mostert with overloads in his channel, sometimes costing the Boks a try. He doesn't make decisive contributions that boost our chances of winning. He is carried by the better players. I have asked repeatedly for references for his world class contribution and not one fan girl plastic can give it to me. Ergo, he is a myth. Ende.
