SA A team line up exposes lack of depth in SA rugby

There is no A team, SA rugby simply lacks talents to set up a different team from the usual first team.

Pool in talents is on par with countries like Scotland.

Nothing to compare with the depth of NZ, England, the British and Irish Lions or even France whose C team managed to win a test in Australia.

Rugby is coming to an end in SA, chi va piano va sano. Amid food riots in SA, a COVID crisis, rugby appears as misplaced, a sport that has no roots, no anchor in the local population.

In the meantime,  the Netherlands are building a rugby team so maybe the SA guns for hire may find a new haven to peddle their rugby skills. Or lack of skills.

The Boks beat Australia with a B -team last year, while the A-team travelled to New Zealand.
The squad this year is much larger than usual, something like 46 players. Some of these players could have been released to play for the local teams, and many C-team players are in playing overseas.

With that level of denial, too bad it can not be converted into water, no water problem in the future.

The squad depth is such that it gives the team fielded tonight.

Usually, the world of rugby is impressively lenient toward SA but on this case, everyone signaled it.

There is no depth in SA, talents are not trained and SA can not field an A team.

We could likely field 6 test sides to beat Scotland. We have over 300 professionals playing overseas and we are talking young players these days.

Trad you are going to get roasted if you post drivel of this sort.

The immense SA pool is shown today with that A team.

The denial runs deep.

South Africa make some moronic selections, but they are never short of total depth. Our achilles heel is traditionally at centre (too often blamed on flyhalf - the plastics can never assess anything correctly). Depth doesn't necessarily mean a star studded cast through an entire squad, it means having players who are good enough to be fielded without weaknening the team's performance. That's where the Johann Muller types were undervalued.
