SA franchises and Super Rugby

There's only one South African franchise that can at least compete at SR level ... and it's not because of their brilliance ... but rather that they've simply managed to hang onto the standard that's required. 
The Bulls, Cheetahs, Stormers, Sharks and Kings have dished up garbage all season long. 
They've regressed to what we saw this weekend ... an embarrassment.
They should by rights not be allowed to compete at super rugby. They don't deserve to be there.
Fleck didn't even look distraught at the hiding received. Just another day at the office ... just another means to collect a pay cheque. 
Simply not good enough.
It's time we're kicked out of these competitions. 
I can't wait for the RC. 





 

The big question is John Mitchell responsible for the Lions or did Ackerman learn from him. The lions are playing like a New Zealand team. 
The bottom line is that most of our coaches are useless- especially at backline play.

 Akkies said openly after Mitchell's departure that he is still in contact with John. I suspect that contact is still going on ... and why not?

 

I Have to agree with CC  here.    I think there are problems that can be solved, but it requires a major rethink of the situation.    The problems  relate to  two major issues:-

The number of SA teams in Super Rugby

There should not be more than 4 SA teams in the competition  and even those would probably be one too  many.

One  of the major reasons for the problem is he large number of SA players playing for foreign clubs and therefore not available for Super Rugby .  A related issue is the six clubs are reducing the capacity of SA Rugby to assist with financing of franchises to keep more players in SA.

The poor standard of coaching in SA

Enough  has been written about this issue to fill books – but the quality of the coaching  remains a major headache.  There ar a number of issues here -  of which I believe backline coaching is bar the Lions non-existent in SA.   The second issue relates to game plans  or rather lack of game plans
