Now for my personal assessment of the Springboks in the test: * Le Roux - brilliant debut - definite a huge asset - whenever he became involved things happen 9/10 * Basson - Despite the intercept try - really not of any value bearing in mind the yellow card as well 5/10 * Engelbrecht - Very good performance on attack - missed two tackles he should have made 7/10 * De Villiers - very good all round performance - especially on defence - topped off by try 8/10 * Habana - showed his brilliance once again 9/10 * Steyn - Accurate goal kicking - line kicking good - strategic kicking ineffective - missed crucial tackle 5,5/10 * Vermaak - not the best debut one could hope for - service not always good and lost possession of ball 5/10 * Spies - was not much in evidence. Took one line-out and made 1 turnover- very average 5/10 * Botha - tried his best in defence, but high tackle cost points. A reasonable debut appearance 6/10 * Louw - very good performance and was very effective in defence 7/10 * Kruger - really problematic - lost very first line-out and did a Spies on us 5/10 * Etzebeth - Very good performance 7,5/10 * Du Plessis - Did noit really perform upo to standard in scrums - pathetic second half 4/10 * Strauss - very good performance - led the forwards by example 8/10 * Beast - first half very good - ran out of steam second half 5,5/10 CONCLUSION WHAT IS TO BE DONE TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION * Basson - replace him with Engelbrecht on the wing * Play De Villiers at 13 and Serfontein at 12 * I have question marks about Morne's reading of the game - but suppose he will be utilized by Meyer. Would like to see what Lambie would do with that backline outside of him. * Vermaak showed he is not test standard - Play Pienaar at scrummie and see what Reinach ultimately produces. * Spies is a neutral - no real asset. Move Botha to no 8 and play Labuschagne at 7 * Replace Kruger asap - he did nothing really constructive today. * Replace the props at halftime or at the latest 50 minutes into the game.

Arno Botha was unlucky on the high tackle, he initially tackled the Italian at the shoulder but as he fell Arno's arm slid up towards his neck. Wouldn't of been that harsh on Vermaak, he did his job and earnt a 6/10 in my opinion. I was really peeved by the booing of Morne when he kicked it downfield, I wasn't happy with the kicking but found the booing too disrespectful. Jannie needs to be replaced permanently.

CM - fair assessment and agree generally with your ratings.  Vermaak did struggle at the back of the ruck, but I put that down to him not being protected well. Same thing happened to Hougaard during the first England test and it got better the more the team played together.

Would make sense for Lambie to get a run, especially as Steyn is apparently unavailable for RCS.

Shezza I agree with you about Botha - and gave him a pass mark for performance. He definitely will develop in future. He to my mind should be at 8 to replace useless Spies and that would indeed be an improvement.

Morne Steyn's contract with the Blue Bulls runs out at the end of the CC. He will be available for the RC.

Definitely Mike, Arno Botha at N.8 and Lappies at 7. Best example of a high tackle was when Parisse tries putting Vermaak in a sleeper hold, incredibly lucky that he didn't get penalised.

Mike I have said for ages that there is something wrong with beast stamina. Our scrum was okay to begin with and then struggles as beast and Jannie got tired. However at the end with Trevor and Coenie we had three consecutive big scrums. I hope Malherbe is fit soon. Coenie did well in the scrums after a shaky start and particlualry when Trevor Joined him. The added beef of Flip also helped.

Arno was indeed as Mallet said a candidate for man of the match.

Vermaak had a very credible debut

Our lock pairing at the moment is very obviously Etzebeth and Flip. Juandre simply ahs no clout. better of course than matfiled but still not up to it.

Louw was excellent

Spies has to go - end of story. If his main asset is his pace and running game - where is it. Play Louw, Botha and Labuscagne against Scotland

Morne was very good and is still our number one flyhalf.

Jean and JJ made a very good combo (one can only hope thats the end of de jongh as a Bok center. Basson had a good game but against tougher backs I have my doubts. Still like JJ he has serious pace.

Habana was brilliant and so was Willie.

To me we should give the youngsters a go against Scotland.

What crap wanting to move JJ to the wing. What a stupid move that would be. While I can live with Jean still in the mix, time needs to be given to Serfontein and JJ as the centre pair. Start with Jean at 12 and then bring Serfontein on to replace him. Agreed with the need to move on from Spies. Move Botha to 8 and play Labascagne or Coetzee at 7. At lock, the impressive de Jager should start at 4, with Eben at 5. Start Hougaard at 9, Vermaak was average and is out with injury anyway.

The only chance I would make is to replace the 2 Sharks props with the 2 Cheetah props, ie. Beast and Jannie with Nyakane and Coenie.

We can perhaps wait till Vermeulen is back, but if needed, I would give Philip van der Walt a chance to replace Spies.

Jano struggled somewhat today, but the reason is that our scrum was going backwards and Spies gave him no protection.

Saffex I would like to see both Engelbrecht and Serfontein on the field of play and definitely get rid of Basson. There is no reason whatsoever why Engelbrecht cannot play at wing. He has the speed and his defence would be better there as well, As to Morne - I do not think he had such an outstanding game today and would like to test out Lambie with the backline and see what happens. Morne had too many aimless kicks and that remains his problem. Spies was useless today - and I think he should go. Hougaard would not get selected - he had an awful game against the Cheetahs and is still not up to standard to play on international level. Service still too slow and unacceptable. Play Arno at 8 - since Spies is useless I would really not go with Coetzee ahead of Labuschagne - I think the latter offers much more than Coetzee can offer.

Wishful thinking is that Spies and Juandre get dropped from the squad all together. But I also know that would never happen under Meyer's watchful eye, he's contracted to field this lads, including Basson. Janie Du Plessis struggled last year and still is, but he still get selected which is absolutely insane.

Mike catch a bloody wake up, you are the only stupid clown that has an issue with JJ's defence. Only a stupid idiot would want to play our best 13 on the wing. It would be as stupid as the AB's playing Ranger on the wing - a complete bloody waste.

Only an ignorant rugby follower would want to move JJ to the wing. Its pathetic and smacks of stupidity. Thank goodness it will never happen and will only be left to stupid clowns to wish upon such a stupid move.

Yes Basson must go and should be replaced with Mvovo for now, JP when he is fit.

Saffex We will have a long time with Mvovo on the wing then - since Pietersen is off to Japan soon and will not be really available before 2015.

Mike I agree with you there with most of the ratings. Let me guess Saffex is a Bulls supporter by any chance?

Beast and Jannie got torn new aholes in the scrums!!! Beast also lost the ball on a few occasions so a 2.5 perhaps. Play Nyakane and Coenie, they did more in one scrum that what Beast and Jannie did in 70mins
