There were one interesting game deserving special attention - namely the Sale Sharks vs Gloucester game,   So lets look at the following players in that game:-

Jaco Kriel

Franco Mostert

Faf de Klerk

Jean-Luc du Preez

Jaco Kriel

His stats indicates that he was one of the few Gloucester Players showing some promising signs:-

Balls Passed                        -            2

Balls Carried                       -            5

Meters gained                     -           42

Line breaks                         -            1

Defenders beaten                -            1

Tackles made                      -            3

Tackles missed                    -            1

His tackle count as a  loosie was insufficient.

Franco Mostert

Balls Passed                        -            2

Balls Carried                       -            5

Meters gained                     -            4

Line breaks                         -            0

Possession loss                    -            1

Tackles made                      -            6

Tackles missed                    -            0

Penalties conceded              -            3

Yellow Card                        -             1

This was a poor show by a lock who has a proven record of physical deficiency  and te above - especially the poor ball carries, penalties given away and yellow card - really is very poor.   Thus far this player praised to high heaven by Mozart and co has shown nothing positive in club rugby to prove that he is a top class player and his poor performances on club level prove that he was a liability in the Springbok team when it comes to Tight 5 play.

Faf de Klerk

Try scored                           -           1

Try assists                           -           1

Balls Passed                        -          23

Balls Carried                       -            6

Meters gained                     -          34

Line breaks                         -            1

Defenders beaten                -            1

Possession loss                    -            1

Tackles made                      -            3

Tackles missed                    -            0

Penalties conceded              -             1

Yellow Card                        -             1

This was the best performance by some distance by any SA player playing in the relative match,

Jean-Luc du Preez

Balls Passed                        -            2

Balls Carried                       -            7

Meters gained                     -          17

Line breaks                         -            0

Defenders beaten                -            3

Possession loss                    -            1

Off-loads                             -            3

Turnover made                    -            1

Tackles made                      -            8

Tackles missed                    -            0

Penalties conceded              -            2

Despite the on site  madness associated to this player he has a good game and should be looked at in future - especially if - as expected - Vermeulen fails to deliver the goods in Super rugby next year.

His tackle count as a loosie was insufficient.

Again, you don't look at the match situation before making these blanket statements. Sale won only 39 rucks in the whole game and played with 34% possession. Gloucester only made 47 tackles in total. That leaves an average of 3 tackles per player. It's not at all a problem to have players with low tackle counts under those circumstances. You can't make tackles that aren't there to make.

and his poor performances on club level prove that e was a liability in the Springbok team when it comes to Tight 5 play

Actually no, it doesn't. Did you watch the game?

Despite the on site  madness associated to this layer

The only onsite madness regarding JL du Preez is your dogged insistence that a general discussion about ruck cleanout safety is actually a conspiracy against JL du Preez.

No Pakie

Fact is there were 59 tackles made by Gloucestor players - not 47 as alleged by you.   Your calculation is meaningless since you cannot merely divide the total number by the number of players and then claim that a loosie making only 3 tackles is good enough,    It is also clear why Sale Sharks  won the game easily and the real reason was in defense nothing else.

Fact is it was pointed out repeatedly that the story dished up by you and Mozart was not supported by facts and I have watched the video repeatedly and there was no sign that Du Preez actually touched the head and neck of Smith anyway,

Just to make it plain -  if Smith was really effected he would have gone backwards - which he did not do at all.  How can you and your associates dream up drama queen stories and hope that they would stick?

Amazing - you do not even care what you write when Mozart start his BS on site.

They made 47 tackles out of 59 attempts. The division is simply to put into perspective how few tackles there were for the team to make on the day.

We have just seen Mostert turn in the top defensive stats for any Bok in the international year.....plus play the leading role in the lineouts after other options bombed. And here is Tokkie.....bubble, bubble toil and trouble.....brewing up his hilarious rugby conspiracies again. Based on one game. The rugby witch doctor in mid season form.

Mostert was in joint second place for the number of tackles made for Gloucester. Top defender was Heinz with seven from eight attempts. Second were Mostert and Ludlow. Only difference was that Ludlow missed one and Moster missed none.

F#ck - but lies and misrepresentations all count on site,  As far as the stats go - Du Toit had the highest tackle count for he Springboks this year.   Remember how Mozart triesd to manipulate that one.   Never succeeded though,

Now back to facts - how come the BSters did not refer to the three penalties and yellow card Mostert gifted to the opposition.   Also his substandard ball carries.

Wonderful how they manage to twist out of facts by twisting and turning like the snakes they are,       .

What was the penalties for?

Did you know that Jaco Kriel only played 46 minutes before being substituted?

Stat Fantasyland is a happy place where rugby is played in the imagination of the inhabitant. How about you stick to your own mantra - don't comment on games you haven't seen.

I thought the day would come when I would need to post this again. When defeated Tokkie slinks away, waits for a while......and then pulls the same B/S out again. To no avail in this case. Here's the big schplotttt! ........ Nov 29, 2018, 18:50 Wrong again Tokkie. If you want to only include tests where both players were on the park it's the 11 tests Mostert played in (Stephanie played in every test). In those tests they both played the full time in all tests, except: 1 Mostert was subbed for 17 minutes in Bargie2...,.so he played for 863 minutes. 2 Stephanie was subbed on in Pom 2 for30 minutes and in Bargie 2 for 33 minutes. So he lost 97 minutes of playing time from the full 880, giving him 783 minutes. Now to the tackling stats......Stephanie registered 134 made/27 missed in those tests, for an average 83.2% success ratio. He made a tackle every 5.84 minutes based on his 783 minutes of playing time. Mostert registered 139 tackles/missed 21 for a tackling success rate of 86.8%....and made a tackle every 6.2 minutes based on his 863 minutes of playing time. So for Mostert's only slightly lower tackles per minute (remember he is playing lock).....you get his quite superior 86.8% success rate vs Stephanie's 83.2% There it is, laid out to exclude games where there were no overlaps...as you requested. Mostert edges it.

It's actually a bit sad to see a 72 year old behaving like a 7 year old.

Moffie likes to pretend he's one of life's big winners but you read a post like the one above and it's hard to imagine a bigger loser.

Well I never, still trying to manipulate figures,  First of all - in rugby matches played actually Du Toit made 42 tackles against the 35 of Mostert..   That just to start - with   Secpmdly in the relevant games Du Toit missed 24 tackles and Mostert 20.   Mozart I checked the tackle count twice - where did you get those numbers from?

If you persist with that BS I will give you a detailed breakdown per test and everyone can then see where you are dodging the issue again.

Those are the numbers straight from ESPN statsguru, posted before. Seen by you before....and this was you raising the white flag: 'Nov 29, 2018, 22:03 Mozart I just made the point that one has to be careful to make sure that comparable circumstances to be used when making calculations are made, I would always encourage the sue of comparable stats when dealing with issues. But lets leave the matter there, Peace - my friend - peace. in this season of goodwill. '

Urinal let me help ....2018 minus 1947 equals 71, even if I was born on January the first, which I wasn't. Start with small numbers like 2 plus 2 and work towards double figures......hahahaha.....there's that banana skin again!

OK Mozart - I will go to ESPN and then come back and give you the real breakdown of figures on site.  As you know you are never to be trusted with any stats like the above.

However, you are trying to avoid what was written above - this is about Mostert and nobody else.   Fact is whatever number of tackles he made - they are ALWAYS weak tackles and then there is the fact that Mostert is too weak to start and co=ordinate mauls.   But what happened in the game on Saturday is what counts -

*   the weak carries; and

*   the penalties given away and the yellow card.

Why shy way from those?

You also did that before you conceded last time....and I had to correct your numbers. As for weak tackles and weak mauls....all just part of your grand delusion. The facts are simple....even though he was playing lock and Stephanie generally played first tackler, Mostert made practically the same number of tackles per minute played.....and he made them with a statistically significant 3.4 % higher success rate. Enjoy your crow.

I did not concede anything last time and will be forced toc heck your thumb-suck figures again. But then you ar chronical- whart about the real issues raised iro Mostert in the game on Saturday,

By the way I watched the highlights in the Wales game as well.   How about the chronic two missed tackles by Mostert that resulted in points for the Welsh - as well as the try-saving tackle by Du Toit in that game?   Proof that Mostert always was a weak tackler anyway.

Also Stade Francais won again,   Sanchez had a brilliant game at flyhalf and Plisson was again on the bench.  Where has your hero Morne Steyn gone?

For the fifth game in a row your other hero Fat Fransie played at full back.   Plumtree said in 2013 that he is no center and in fact a wreck at flyhalf as well - but he seems to be back where he at least play some relatively good rugby - namely at full back.

Goosen had a good game at flyhalf for Montpellier - they made a good buy when they took over his contract from Racing Metro,   He was worth the Euro 1,5 million Montpellier had to pay to Racing to get him,.

And Montpellier used Jacques du Plessis at 8 - where he had a brilliant game.  Maybe he could be used in that capacity in future,   I liked the two tries he scored and his tackle count of 23 very much - maybe he could be an answer in that position if Vermeulen as expected fail in 2019.   For a change Louw really had a good game at 8 for Bath - but will he last through to 2019?

I will come back later this week when dealing with the Du Toit nd Mostert tackle issue.

Where has your hero Morne Steyn gone?

Let's see now. You are a coach. You recently obtained the services of 30-year old Nicolas Sanchez, a current test player and certainly one of the finest flyhalves in test rugby right now. You have to choose between him and 34.5 year old Morne Steyn, probably well on his way to retirement from the game as is most rugby players at his age.

Who are you going to pick to run your little French ship if you're sensible about it?

Pakie

Morne has gone missing - not even on the bench.   I agree with you -  Meyer made a very good buy with Sanchez,    Obviously Sanchez is the first choice flyhalf - but I cannot see Steyn playing much for Stade this year - even on the bench.   I think his contract will end at the end of the present Top 14 season anyway.

Morne is a nice person and I hope he enjoys his upcoming retirement.

Well. It is quite unlikely that ge would have been selected (even for the bench), seeing that he is injured...

"Pour le match à Agen samedi (14h30), l'encadrement parisien est de nouveau privé de deux de ses pièces maîtresses en attaque, l'ouvreur Morné Steyn et le centre Gaël Fickou, toujours blessés. Le premier est remplacé par Nicolas Sanchez, qui va faire ses débuts en Top 14 avec le Stade Français. Jonathan Danty et Julien Delbouis seront associés au centre. "

Trooth Fairy

Thanks for that  -  but the article is nearly 4 weeks old and in that period Sanchez started in all matches at flyhalf.

The article is right about one thing though - Steyn was and is a "dreary" ( depressingly dull and bleak or repetitive) player.  The losses with him around were just too big,

Nobody can call Sanchez a dreary player.
