I am not mentioning those who have maintained a good level of performance in recent weeks. Lets start from the back.
De Allende had an excellent game - by far the best of any SA backline players. I have a question how come he seems to be the only backline players who draws in defenders and know how to off-load balls in tackle situations? His off-load leading to the Carr try is really top class show of what is to be done.
De Jongh started off well enough in his first two games this year. He was back to his level of sub-par performances that characterised his display of last year.
Francois Steyn really is a generous man - he gifted the Cheetahs the only try they scored today. However, he is also glutonous - when there is an easy conversion he grabs the ball and insists on him kicking at goal. Maybe he felt that with his standard poor game conversions will make him acceptable. Still no sign of anything of substance in attack.
Engelbrecht and Serfontein had better games in defense than they had in the past - but still showed less prenetration in attack than they should.
Swiel showed real signs of being a good thinking flyhalf - his runs were dangerous and his one line break leading to the Scoring of the Sharks only try was a very good indication of what is to be expected from a flyhalf.
Vermeulen had an iffy game - too many penalties conceeded and too many poor decisions.
Lood de Jage was brilliant when he was on the field of play - pity he was injured early - he was by some distance the best tight 5 SA player on display.
Victor Mattfield - the Wallabies played the fool with him - he definitely is below par at this stage.
