SA Rugby captains cannot count to 15

The question became clearer yesterday in the Stormers game.  One f the Chiefs was yellow-carded and the Stormers were one point behind.   The Stormers got a penalty at an acute angle and despite the 15-14 situation Kolisi decided that a kick at goal should be made.  The kick was missed and the Stormers back in his own half defending desperately.    With that kind of situation - and the Stormers driving mauls working very well - a corner kick should be written into the rules by law.
When that happened I said the Stormers can kiss a win good-bye.   This is rarely the situation - but most other teams will make a corner kick and use a driving maul under such circumstances.

Apparently, Kolisi wanted to kick for touch, but Flok Cilliers ran on the pitch with the kicking tee.

Then the coach is at fault.   The idea to kick at goal is real BS.   Remember what happened to the England team in the 2015 WC in the match against Wales.

It was certainly the wrong decision, especially after the other kick was missed. This should have been known in foresight, regardless of the next kick though.
The Stormers coaching box panicked (unlike Ackerman).

The late call - was it right?

England could have snatched a draw at the death, but captain Chris Robshaw opted to kick to the corner rather than take the difficult pot at the posts, and when Wales pushed the subsequent maul into touch the chance had gone.

The kick at goal had one of two outcomes. It could have gone through or he could have missed it. A fifty percent chance at a positive outcome in other words.
The kick for the corner had many possible outcomes. They could have scored a try provided that they won the line-out and provided that they retained possession of the ball after winning the line-out and provided that they managed to break through the defence of the opponents. In addition there were also numerous other things that could have gone wrong. Someone with snot in his hands could have knocked the ball on. They could have lost the line-out. They could have won the line-out and then subsequently lost possession of the ball. They could have given away a penalty. They could have failed to break the defence and score a try. They could also, like England in 2015, have been pushed into touch, etc, etc, etc. With all the possibilities that I have mentioned, this would have had way less than a fifty percent chance at a positive outcome.
How many times have we seen debates after games, especially in knock-out games, where the captain is slated afterwards for going for the try and not taking the points on offer?
I seem to recall a test against the ABs, IIRC, where Jean de Villiers declined something like five easy shots at goal and went for the line and eventually lost possession of the ball without scoring and then we went on to lose by a narrow margin.

Oom your theory hinges on the 15 to 14.....sadly wrong again. Cane departed at 59.30 and returned at 69.30 before the lineout that led to the penalty Marais missed. I think the argument as you presented was silly anyway. But when you figure that your fundamental assumption was just a dirty thumbsuck......it's just another Tokkie joke. ... You say South African rugby captains can't count to 15 ...but it appears you can't count to 10 (minutes that is). .. What a hoot.

Wrong as per normal - the kicking maniac,  Whoever made that decision ,ade a horrible mess and lost the game for the Stormers.   No thinking ability as per normal with you.

Ok - I admit that Cane was back when the penalty was awarded.   Whether it was 15 - 15 - it still was the wrong thing to do - but you are too stupid to realiz e it.

 Just for interest' sake. In that situation I would go for the post 99% of the time, bot on Saturday I would have gone for the lineout.  Our kicker was off and it was a difficult kick. We had a reasonable chance with a driving mall...but had the kick gone over, it was a different story. It happens in sport....anyway, not a total disaster season for the Stormers.

Trouble is our driving maul wasn't working either, but you make a good point ....Marais has lost his early kicking success. Still the kick has a much higher probability than the rolling maul.
