It was not a very bright weekend for the Bulls and the Lions - whilst the Stormers eked out a win and the Sharks.   What would the team look like?

   15     Pieterse

   14     Habana

   13     Jordaan

12     De Villiers - nobody else did anything

   11    Mvovo

   10    Grant

     9    Hougaard

     8    Daniel

     7    Elstadt

     6   Coetzee

     5    Bekker

     4    Etzebeth

     3    Du Plessis

     2   Du Plessis

     1   Beast

I was not convinced by De Villiers performance at 12 - but there is no real competition from anyone else.    So we have a case where proven performance over a period has to be taken into account..   There is no place for Spies - even though he did a bit better than usual - still not good enough.     The Bulls played badly and only Hougaard did anything positive.   No real performances of note by the Lions - so selection of essence had in the main to come from the better teams..

Spies was better than Daniel. Habana was poor and Taute was better than Jean

Look at the numbers - please - since when was Taute ever in a number 12 Jersey?   As for Spies - he has been mismanaged or he is mismanaging himself.   I have not seen one game in Super 15  where he was the standout player amongst the loosies.   He was standing out from a miserable performance by the rest of the Pink Bulls forwards the past weekend - but he was just not good enough at all to be selected.

The only player I put out of his position is Coetzee - a rare talent that would make an excellent 6.

Um you will find Taute has played 12 in the last 2 games and Spies was selected as the next best 8 in the competition this past weekend after Higginbottom. You clearly missed the Bulls game this past weekend????

Saffex

Sorry about that - but I missed the Lions game - and did not notice they put Taute at 12.   From what I have ssen of the replays - there was nothing much to write home about.   Now for Spies - I watched the game - mostly in horror due to poor performance.  i said Spies was slightly better than normal - but his normal is atrocious.   Not for me - that one.
